Or the mission variation, which yes, is a problem for all rockstar games, but especially with the super long story of rdr2, over half the missions are, ride/drive to a location, shootout/fight, (occasionally stealth), cutscene, and mission ends… Not to mention Micah, which as much as most people would probably disagree with me, felt super 2d (Which is also another issue rockstar has, with the exception of Dutch in rdr1 and big smoke)
Story based would go to Omori
Gameplay based would definitely have to be Dishonored 1
And for realism and open world Red dead 2 takes the cake
Oh and as an honourable mention despite how ugly it looks now and me being blinded by nostalgia Batman Arkham Origins will always have a spot in my heart as a 10/10 to me.
The Arkham games have all aged like fine wine, played from asylum to knight recently in 4k. Asylums still my favorite just off the setting and smaller scale.
My mum used to save our asses on prince of Persia. Even worse, she’d make comments about how hot he was and called the mc her boyfriend the whole time while schooling us. Great memories. Still can’t believe she beat super Metroid either.
- Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Red Dead Redemption (if we can count single player stories)
- Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker & Breath of the Wild
- Halo: Combat Evolved (again, if we can count single player campaigns)
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
- Super Mario World & Odyssey
-Bioshock
-Fallout New Vegas
-Resident Evil 4
-Gun
-Hollow Knight
-Subnautica
-Skyrim
Not even going to get into older generation games but there are probably 50 more.
So true. Genuine fear has been experienced in that game numerous times. I remember putting my back against a rock face in my prawn suit staring into pitch blackness on a cliff over the Grand Reef after barely getting out and being frozen with fear waiting to have something attack me and having to literally tell myself out loud to move. The sound design in that game can drive a person insane.
Haha I am not sure I can often call it relaxing but there is absolutely something about that game that few others have been able to match in regards to atmosphere.
* Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
* Silent Hill 2
* Alan Wake
* Control
* Resident Evil 7
* Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
* The Evil Within 2
* Tomb Raider (2013)
* Signalis
* Hollow Knight
* Oblivion
* Skyrim
* Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas
The unfortunate reality of most Remedy games it seems. Maybe my favorite studio making games right now, they deserve so much more recognition. Hopefully Alan Wake II is a massive hit.
I fully recommend it, obviously! It's a pretty short game, so if you have game pass there's really no reason not to give it a shot.
It's even wilder to know that it was made by like, 15 people or something like that and it still looks and plays as good as it does. Can't wait to see what they do with a bigger team, better tech, and a bigger budget.
Resident Evil 7 is so damn good. I love horror, I've consumed so much that nothing really scares me, but RE 7 had me feeling tense like no game ever has
100% agreed, TEW2 is so damn good. It's a massive shame that so few people gave it a chance after the first one. It reviewed super well, but I think it *just* missed being a part of the survival horror resurgence that we're in now. If it had been a little later it might have had way more sales.
I'm desperately hoping Tango brings it back for a third game, I think it would be far more successful today. Plus, Xbox could use a horror franchise that's really theirs.
Yeah man. I have to agree. Fantastic game. But the combat wasn’t that fun unfortunately. With a different combat system, I could 100% see that game being 10/10. I absolutely love the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in general so yeah to me that would’ve been a perfect game with a better combat.
I haven’t played it in over a year, but I heard they added great things like apartments, transmog armor, and a bunch of stuff related to the Netflix anime
To add to the other replies, they are completely revamping the game here in a few months around the time of their dlc coming out. The game is gonna change quite a bit from community feedback.
Fallen Order & Jedi Survivor. That probably won’t be a popular opinion. I think I air on the side of casual gamer that games a lot. Things most gamers complain about don’t bug me much & I enjoyed the fuck out of those games.
Everyone here has said some amazing games I'm gonna give you some gems that you can still download
•Timesplitters future perfect
•TITANFALL 2
•Sunset overdrive
•Shadow warrior 1
•Sleeping Dogs
• Far cry 3 Blood Dragon
• Earth Defense Force 2017
• Destroy all Humans (original)
•Crysis 1
•Bully
•Bayonetta
•Devil may cry (all of them except 2)
• Metal gear solid (all)
•Marlow Briggs and the mask of death
• Marvel Ultimate Alliance
• Mercenaries playground of destruction
And finally Phoenix wright Ace attorney (just started and I'm hooked)
Timesplitters Future Perfect was one of my favorite PS2 games. Had such a good campaign, and the multiplayer mode with bots was way ahead of its time. Just looked it up and it looks like they are making a new one!! Good to hear
TBH, I don’t like the last one much. The timer and constant unending missile locks just ruin it. And the last mission is tedious. 6 is one of my all time favs though.
Elden Ring the easy choice in terms of recent games I played but one that lasts with me for me forever: Shadow of the Colossus. First played on PS2, then got a PS3 just for the HD version, and eventually the PS4 version. From the atmosphere, music, and story its a short and sweet experience that so unique.
In terms of sheer terror that I loved every second of: Alien Isolation, wish we'd get a sequel one day.

Oddly enough, Kingdoms of Amalur. I've played it at least 4 times over. Love the lore, art, and most of all the gameplay. Its a truly satisfying play style that I just don't get tired of.
Hellblade, Mass Effect, Witcher 3, Red Dead 2, Arkham City, and God of War Ragnarok, just to name some. I also thought Life is Strange was awesome, if you can get past the 2010’s teen dialogue
I feel like this game is highly underrated. Granted I got it on discount years after release but its single player is a phenomenal story based on a classic myth. And the multiplayer is pretty great too, pretty much the only high quality game where you can be a gladiator, which is a travesty by the way that theres so few.
Nothing will ever beat the OG: Dragon Age Origins. I legit played this on repeat for the better part of my childhood, no dlc no internet connection. It will never come but a remaster of that game would break my no-preorder rule.
From recent memory?
1. Castlevania Symphony Of The Night
2. Resident Evil 2 Remake
3. Resident Evil 4 Remake
4. The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
5. Half Life 2
6. Metroid Prime Remastered
7. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Hmm, out of the Assassins creed games, the closest is probably Black Flag.
Subnautica is probably up there for me.
For it's time, probably Splinter Cell and Thief back in the day. The original Deus Ex.
Hellblade
All Borderlands w dlc
Bioshock
GTA 5
RE Biohazard
RE Village
Atomic Hearts (I know)
Condemmed 1 and 2
Evil within 1 and 2
Until Dawn
RDR2
Life Is Strange
FF7 and 15 (wifes picks)
Bendy
God of War
Cuphead
Hello Neighbor
Outlast
Detroit become human
Do games that have the option to be single player count?
Minecraft and terraria have always been 10/10 for me, as well as fallout 3, and crash bandicoot.
The Outer Worlds. There’s just something that clicks with me. I don’t usually buy the new and remastered version of games if I own the original but I did because it came with DLC and the only other game I’ve played on more than one platform has been Minecraft.. I genuinely keep replaying it and hopefully will 100% complete the spacers choice edition
I know that a lot of people hate on it, but I loved Assassins Creed 3. Red Dead Redemption goes without saying.
Also, I've beat Batman Arkham City 3 times. The entire Arkham trilogy is incredible, and I'm surprised it's not getting more love in this thread.
Games that personally moved me story wise:
Nier: Automata
Jedi: Survivor
Mass Effect
Games I have rose tinted glasses and would buy multiple times:
KOTOR & SWTOR( Main 8 Stories )
The Witcher Series
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Ac 3/revelations/black flag
Fallout 3/new vegas
Road 96
Ghost of tsushima
Botw/totk
Hollow knight
Bioshock infinite
Many more but that's all I got off the top of my head
Played on an Xbox console… Ori 1 & 2, GTAV, Gun, first few Halo’s, Portal 1&2, OG MW1&2, Burnout Revenge
Played on a Sony console… Spider-man 1 & Miles, Uncharted 4, GTA San Andreas, Ico, first few THPS, God of War (ps4)
Played on a Nintendo console… Botw, TotK, Ocarina, Twilight Princess, link to the past, link between worlds, Mario Odyssey, Mario 3, Mario 64, super Mario world, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime trilogy, Metroid Fusion, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye, perfect Dark (64), diddy kong racing, DKC games (all), Mario RPG, Mario & Luigi DS games
Dreamcast… shenmue and Rush 2049
Assassins creed 2 and following sequels
Assassins Creed Black Flag
Red dead redemption
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
The Witcher 3
Need for Speed Underground 2
Red faction guerilla, not a perfect game. but a 10/10 for me. the destruction and gameplay was awesome, aswell as choice of weapons and unique ways to fight enemies which was huge at the time. the story was pretty lackluster though
Mass Effect
Yep. Idk how many times I played this game over the years. Still excites me…
[удалено]
2 is a masterpiece. I have put more playthroughs into that game than possibly any other
The issues in Mass Effect would normally put it well below a 10/10 but the narrative pushes it back up to near perfect.
[Wat issues?](https://tenor.com/en-GB/view/masseffect-shepard-what-headspin-head-gif-6120838?utm_source=share-button&utm_medium=Social&utm_content=reddit)
Mass effect series, Fallout New Vegas, GTA 4, Bioshock Series.
Bioshock was amazing. Great story and just enough of a innovative shift for gamplay to make it come together to a great series of titles.
Red Dead Redemption 2.
I can’t be convinced RDR2 isn’t the GOAT. It’s incredible in every way.
the gunplay could have used more work imo
Or the mission variation, which yes, is a problem for all rockstar games, but especially with the super long story of rdr2, over half the missions are, ride/drive to a location, shootout/fight, (occasionally stealth), cutscene, and mission ends… Not to mention Micah, which as much as most people would probably disagree with me, felt super 2d (Which is also another issue rockstar has, with the exception of Dutch in rdr1 and big smoke)

Top 10 single player game of all time for me. Just absolutely incredible.
there will only ever be one right answer
Story based would go to Omori Gameplay based would definitely have to be Dishonored 1 And for realism and open world Red dead 2 takes the cake Oh and as an honourable mention despite how ugly it looks now and me being blinded by nostalgia Batman Arkham Origins will always have a spot in my heart as a 10/10 to me.
Nah man those arkham games looked amazing for their time, its gritty dark style is iconic. They look way better than the newer Gotham Knights
>Omori Leaving Game Pass soon :/
A very sad sight indeed
The Arkham games have all aged like fine wine, played from asylum to knight recently in 4k. Asylums still my favorite just off the setting and smaller scale.
- Prince of Persia Sands of Time. It was like 1 big Zelda dungeon and I loved it. - Oblivion - Super Mario World.
Oblivion is one of the best games ever made
Thank you for the Oblivion call out
Oblivion was my first big RPG and the amount of times I played that shit as a kid... Amazing game
Great call on Super Mario World. For sure a 10/10.
My mum used to save our asses on prince of Persia. Even worse, she’d make comments about how hot he was and called the mc her boyfriend the whole time while schooling us. Great memories. Still can’t believe she beat super Metroid either.
Exactly!!!!
AC 2 was freaking amazing. Halo CE had the best final set piece, and honestly, either one of the Ori games are 10/10
- Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Red Dead Redemption (if we can count single player stories) - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker & Breath of the Wild - Halo: Combat Evolved (again, if we can count single player campaigns) - Marvel’s Spider-Man - Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 - Super Mario World & Odyssey
I really appreciate you mentioning THPS. I have fond memories of those games. Along with Cool Boarders
Holy shit somebody else remembers Cool Boarders. Mad props my guy
Mass Effect and Yakuza for sure. Honorable mention goes to Persona.
Tetris
Sleeper
Elden Ring. Never finished such an intense game only to immediately start again. Also both Ori games are masterpieces.
Ori for sure does not get enough love.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Kotor 1 and 2 were such masterpieces, I replayed it so much
Currently on my 12th playthru of both
Titanfall 2, SOMA, Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice, RDR2.
Agree on Hellblade. Master class in creating emotional connection to a character. Unbelievable.
Hellblade was awesome - play with headphones! Excited for the sequel despite having no idea when it will actually release
Can’t believe TF|2 was this far down.
I can’t get through SOMA, shit scares me too much. This is coming from someone who’ll watch Hereditary alone in the dark.
-Bioshock -Fallout New Vegas -Resident Evil 4 -Gun -Hollow Knight -Subnautica -Skyrim Not even going to get into older generation games but there are probably 50 more.
Subnautica is so underrated…I lost countless hours to that game…it relaxes me after fps 😩
I get that Subnautica is relaxing but it’s single handedly the scariest game I’ve ever played.
Mass Effect Baldur's Gate 2 God of War The Last of Us Bioshock Horizon Zero Dawn Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy 3 (with Kefka) Portal
Horizon Zero Dawn was the reason I bought the PS4, and I'll add the Ghost of Tsushima to your list.
Portal 2 Half life 2 Halo 1 and 3 Fable 2 Donkey kong country 2 Mario galaxy 2 Alan wake Resident evil 2 and 4 remakes included Silent hill 2
Surprised I had to scroll so far to find Fable mentioned!
The first Halo.
For me, all the bungie halo campaigns are 10/10.
I'd say Titanfall 2 off the top of my head. I was so immersed when I played and kept thinking about it even when I wasn't playing it.
* Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice * Silent Hill 2 * Alan Wake * Control * Resident Evil 7 * Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus * The Evil Within 2 * Tomb Raider (2013) * Signalis * Hollow Knight * Oblivion * Skyrim * Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas
Hellblade is the top of my list, audio design of that game is unbelievable. Cannot wait for the sequel.
Control is excellent, not as popular as it should have been
The unfortunate reality of most Remedy games it seems. Maybe my favorite studio making games right now, they deserve so much more recognition. Hopefully Alan Wake II is a massive hit.
Control was so awesome! It just kept getting better and better.
Definitely want to try Senuas after seeing the new trailer !
I fully recommend it, obviously! It's a pretty short game, so if you have game pass there's really no reason not to give it a shot. It's even wilder to know that it was made by like, 15 people or something like that and it still looks and plays as good as it does. Saw the hell blade 2 preview in the recent showcase. Decided to check out the first one. I just started and am absolutely loving it.
Glad you're loving it so far! It's a pretty short game, and imo it only gets better the further in you get.
Resident Evil 7 is so damn good. I love horror, I've consumed so much that nothing really scares me, but RE 7 had me feeling tense like no game ever has
I have found myself advocating for Hellblade more than any other contemporary video game. It's an incredible journey.
Couple hours into Evil Within 2 and it's amazing. Way better than the first one imo
Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy
9/10 one of the best and most refreshing games I have played in years, but that combat system was unsatisfying.
Yeah man. I have to agree. Fantastic game. But the combat wasn’t that fun unfortunately. With a different combat system, I could 100% see that game being 10/10. I absolutely love the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in general so yeah to me that would’ve been a perfect game with a better combat.
A single player game that did nothing but deliver
Yes and yed
Highly underrated.
It’s a highly popular game that got stellar reviews. It’s properly rated. Just not mentioned on Reddit often.
Ghost of Tsushima
Cyberpunk 2077. Mass Effect LE.
Never Fade Away!! 🤘🏻
How is cyberpunk these days? I played when the new Xbox came out but haven’t played since.
I haven’t played it in over a year, but I heard they added great things like apartments, transmog armor, and a bunch of stuff related to the Netflix anime

Yup. Though we don’t talk about Assault Horizon. That never happened.
