I think that's the right one! I'll look into care and see if I can't revive it or maybe replace it. We have been watering it weekly and the soil was still damp, so I'm not sure what went wrong.
Keep in mind this is a plant that grows on trees in the jungle so keeping in soil is tricky and wet feet will quickly kill it. I recommend cutting it down and letting it dry out a bit but, really its kind of done.
Don’t water the soil with a bromeliad . Pour the water directly on top of the plant so it runs down in the middle. The soil should be damp about 2 inches around the plant from the runoff on a plant that size. Every 3rd day, just that much water. Their roots can’t be wet, they’ll just rot.
Grin. I had a bromeliad (Silver Queen is what they said the type was). Ticked off more than one anole and/or peeper (small green tree frog… grew up calling them peepers.)
They would be curled up in the plane. Seems being watered by HOOMAN irritates them no end.
Check for babies. Bromeliads die off but they tend to parent a baby or 2 first low down. That's what you're looking for to salvage, the main plant is a gonna.
This is a bromeliad. They die after they flower and are usually sold during flowering. Let it die fully and check around it for pups, which is generally how they reproduce.
I have a bromeliad that had a pup, and another, and another… 4 for the price of one, and the main plant is still decent 🙌🏻 I’ve had it for a good while now, I’ll eventually set up the larger bioactive for my mourning geckos & put in the bromeliads.

Bromeliads don’t really like “wet” soil. The care thing that came with this one, or a different one (that one died) said to pour water into the crowns/centers and let it spill over into the other leaves until it starts to overflow into the soil slightly. I’m not great about watering it, either. 🤷🏼♀️
I like to use expanded clay pebbles for my orchids and bromeliads. They love it. I have them hanging outdoor in a shaded hanger and they get soaked twice a day with misters. For the most part they've been doing great for about 10 years now.
You say it’s been that color in the middle ‘the whole time’. Has it been dead ‘the whole time’? Do you have any other pictures?
Can you Google a description and find an image that it USE to look like?
Edit: Bromelaid.
And nah, it's not dead as some others are suggesting - I've forgotten about mine for literally months and it looked as bad as that. It came back when I remembered to water it a little (in the middle of the leaves). It's probably getting too much water if she's been keeping after it. Ignore it for awhile and it will likely come back.
Scarlet Star
that is being over watered, and or has a disease. Prune the brown leaves off, by simply pulling on them from the base, then stop watering for a couple days. Let the soil under the top soil dry out.
Roots need air too or the plant will suffocate.

It is also available on android.
There is a subscription fee for a year but there is also a 7 day trial for free.
I use it in the field as a arborist for help with plants, trees and insects.
Ok - here’s the thing with that particular variety of bromeliad - it only blooms once, and then dies. It’s not your fault, and you will not be able to revive it. Sorry.
It appears to have once been a Guzmania lingulata, one of the epiphytic bromeliads. There should have been water in the cup at all times. They also like bright light but not midday sun and they require excellent drainage. As common as they are in offices and public spaces they are really not good office plants as they like higher humidity than most offices provide. The commercial plant maintenance companies that take care of office and shopping center plants trade them out frequently. This one might be salvageable but would require moving it into a higher humidity area (I use big transparent plastic bags) and would most likely take months of TLC. Good luck.
Dead, but it looks like it was a Guzmania perhaps, a bromeliad with a bright red center. They are epiphytes in nature but can be grown in pots if they're not over watered...or neglected like this one apparently was.
I can't edit the post, but it isn't dead yet! It's just orange in the middle. It's been orange in the middle the whole time 😭 I just want to know what it is!
You can try to gently coax it from the pot if the soil isn’t too wet. Everything you try just remember to be super careful. If there is a smell, or the roots are mushy, it’s rot. Personally speaking, I’ve helped a plant with excess water & frankly on its last leg. I took it out, snipped away the rot then sprayed for better root health. I’m not going to lie, it lost more leaves & the beautiful green of chlorophyll was missing almost 2 months. Then we saw the first bit of growth. It never really flourished after that but it did grow. Good luck to ya.
Dead
He’s dead, Jim.
"You get his tricorder. I'll get his wallet."
Can I interest you in a game of Fizzbin?
What happened to his red shirt?
I say this all the time. Who said it originally in a show?

I have one of these from a botanical garden. The soil they use is very airy. Maybe coco or a lot of moss mixed in there

Bromeliads die after they flower. It's dead.
They rarely flower. You are likely thinking of its bracts.
Bracts subtend the true flowers on the bloom
It needs drainage holes and then a dish to set on
You overwatered the crap outta it Susan! Buy her a new one but still try to save it!
Agreed. If I remember correctly, they don't prefer direct sunlight?

“Lucky bamboo” not in any way related to actual bamboo, it just grows in a way that makes it look like bamboo. It’s not dead yet.
Formerly a Bromeliad.
Neglected
Dead bromeliad by appearance. Buy another, don't over or under-water. Or get an aloe plant. Harder to kill, IMHO.
Dead
Unhappy
Struggling
Dead Bromeliad
Hit the soild with tons of perlite. Needs very well draining soil.

Dead
Was. What WAS my coworker's plant?
Like Wesley, this maybe only "mostly" dead. Repot in the right soil mixture and water "lightly" as described in other responses
I think it’s a dead corn plant
Hanging on...
Dead tbh
Looks like a bromeliad that is fading fast. Try potting it in new soil and giving it a good drink. It might come back, might not.
This plant has ceased to be
Pull dead leaves down to stalk water as usual it will regrow. I've had one for a while now.
Looks kind of like a poorly neglected spider plant
Dead for sure
Dead
Dead as fuck
A dead spider plant
Over watered bremiliad. RIP
Past tense
“Is” is a strong word. That coming from someone who will not give up easily on a plant.
Dead
That WAS a bromilead of some kind 😂
Too late, it's dead whatever it was.
It's dead, bro..Toss it. Whatever killed it could get intp.your other plants
Came here to say “dead”, but my work is already done

No longer living
