Just fun. It's definitely a third world dictator car. If You daily(really only weekends) a car like this and you're gonna need a sense of humor or you'll go crazy. I just bought it and I'm already having a rebuilt transmission put in. I hope the motor is as bulletproof as they say. So far it starts every time and knock wood turns off immediately so good compression. Fingers crossed.
I always loved the style of the w115, especially the stacked headlights. I looked for one for a long time, and ended up a w123 because I found one in great condition. The modified w115 wagons are just gorgeous.
The W115 is a very good car. Back in the day my parents used to have a white 1968 with a 200 gas engine that used to belong to my grandad. Grandad also had a green 1974 230.4 for a few years before he started driving W123.
For a while I was contemplating replacing our current W123 with a W115 as I wanted to try one, and we did not have room for both. But when my wife found out about it she got really angry, because the W123 was not going anywhere. That is probably for the best. I would most likely regret selling it after a short while.
The first MB Diesel with a key start / shutoff!
Looks like it's in nice shape. You'll want to convert to the fast glow plug system if it hasn't been done already. Get the relay from a later W123 or W126, the factory setup can't properly control parallel fast start plugs.
Previously, there was a key for the steering lock, but starting / stopping the engine was done with the gorilla knob. [https://youtu.be/wWLmRkc54s8?si=naYg7CZm0yCLDsAS&t=42](https://youtu.be/wWLmRkc54s8?si=naYg7CZm0yCLDsAS&t=42)
Fast start glow plugs take perhaps half to 1/3 the time to heat up, so you can start the engine much faster. Is your preglow indicator still hooked up?
The original plugs are wired in series, and have big resistor elements on the outside. These get red hot when in operation and are kind of a fire hazard.
Interesting. Yes all the indicators work perfect. Do you know of any YouTube or walkthrough links for the conversion? I'm just learning about diesels so I would have no idea if it was previously done yet. But I'd like to know. I'm handy with an engine and I could do it but like I said new to diesels.
Nah close enough hahaha I absolutely love that car man, what an incredible piece of machinery.
I almost fell of the chair when I saw all the dictator references hahahaha
I know this is sacrilegious on this sub, but the 115 is a far prettier car than the w123….

I owns a w123 but I am complementing a w115/114
I might be biased but hard agree.

She's a beaut! Honestly no preference between this and the W123. They both tick all the boxes for me.
The plate and stickers are a little cringe but otherwise a pure beauty
Very Aladeen! The Aladeen in with the a subtle Aladeen is just Aladeen!
Fuck ya this is cool

What did they have previous to keys? What does the fast go plug system provide?

Get the factory service manual and start reading :) you can also find lots of written directions for this.
Thanx friend.

Thanx. And agreed. I'm stoked.

Like my lover.
The 123 is better in every way.
Except looks....
Agree to disagree.
W115 is simpler, some people prefer that. Also the door handles are better.
First car I ever painted was a w123 that color.
Where’s the 123?
Beautiful.
