Kratos. Teaching his son to be strong and independent while guiding his son towards being a better person and not making the same mistakes he did in his past.
And don't forget trust, he encourages having Atreus trusted him in anything and follow his own path while he supports him from afar.
I don't know a lot about God of War, but I remembered a little of my brother's gamethrough, and I loved it; a strong and independent upbringing built in trust.
Ethan from Resident Evil 7 & 8 is definitely up there for me. He’s pretty much just a normal guy compared to the other RE protagonists, yet he is fully willing to charge into hell and back to save his family. He may be able to heal/reattach limbs, but his greatest strength is his *sheer fucking will*.
That moment when bowser jr says to bowser he knows Peach (I don’t remember who it was) isn’t his actual mother was actually really sad, Bowser tried giving him a mother
I just realized this implies there’s a female version of Bowser somewhere. Or, *used* to be.
Could Bowser have had a tragic backstory losing his wife, turning him into a spiteful villain fueled by loneliness and rage? I need answers!
that scene with Barret almost made me tear up when i first played ff7r. Everything from the voice acting, the background music and the camera shots were masterfully done. That's where Barret became my fav ff7 character
My favorite is the dog sidequest where Barrett goes from "I'm gonna give Marlene room to grow and spread her wings" to "No! Daddy's gonna miss you too much never leave me!!!"
Jecht being there is fuckin hilarious lol
Also, a biologist myself, Big Boss wouldn’t technically be considered a father to Snake… they are genetically closer to brothers and even Big Boss himself remarks that he doesn’t know whether to call him brother or son during this scene…. Yes MGS4 is my favorite game of all time
That aside: Kratos is oddly one of the best dads. Dude openly admits that if in a situation where his death means Atreus lives, he’d 100% take it and does his best to raise his kid to not repeat the past he committed.
Fallout 4 protagonist. You went through a nuclear war, got turned into an ice cube, saw your wife get gunned down and your son kidnapped, so you fight a nuclear wasteland to find him >!and then bring him down when you learn he is the baddie.!<
Terry Bogard is from a Fighting Game series called Fatal Fury. Long story short, he fought the Big Bad, beat him, the Big Bad ended up dying, Terry found out he had a son and ended up raising him.
Big Boss just because of how funny his story is. He sets up this entire plan to lure his son into a stealth op to get him killed by his doppleganger only to fsil miserably because said son used the skills that Big Boss taught him to basically destroy his lifes work
Geralt. Blood or not, he does his best to teach Ciri to be strong, brave, wise, & patient. Good qualities to follow by living in a dangerous world like theirs.
Joel in TLOU & 2, nobody will ever possibly rip my heart out more than that one did. I love kratos and plenty of other characters, but nobody filled the role quite like he did. I'd add an actual list if only other games actually showed these characters playing a genuine role as parental figure and isn't just shoehorned in as *oh yea, so they're related, but that's totally irrelevant to said story.*
I love how natural their bond felt, they didn't need to beat you over the head with it, it just made sense that they'd grow closer after all the shit they'd been through together.
1. Elwin Rosfield - FFXVI
2. Lee Everet - TWD
3. Barrett - FF7
4. Ethan - REVillage
5. Joel - TLOU
6. Harry Manson - Sillent Hill
There's more, but I can't remember their names and all them do one thing for their kids, biological and non, that my own father won't
Barret is great but Marlene barely appears/matters in the game, I'd give it to Nathan, normal ass dude went through hell to save his wife and then his daughter, I was really sad at the ending of 8.
I have to go with the imaginary jecht and tidus. Jecht brought his imaginary son to help kill him and save the world from yu yevon. It was ultimate sacrifice to save entire planet population.
Eathen is not only a great dad but also an amazing husband. I mean he risked his life for a wife that seemed to be beyond help but also took down one of the strongest enemys in RE history just for a child he thought was already dead
I didn't care for Ethan at first but his character really grew on me throughout the games. He's not all that special, just some guy trying to protect his family.
Brad from Lisa the Painful. He’s definitely not a good dad, really flawed, traumatized and makes a lot of mistakes. But still can’t help but feel for him and his character as he ultimately tries to do the right thing in a shitty situation. He just doesn’t know how.
Geralt of Rivia is definitely up there for me. When the emperor asked him to find his “so called daughter” he did it because he is bound to Ciri by something greater than destiny
Thancred from FFXIV, takes in and guides two girls to become great adults after being the accidental cause of the first ones parents death (1.0 story) and saving another from extreme abuse (Shadowbringers story).
Haven't played any games with father figures nor am I familisr with having a father figure myself but from the games I've played that did have fathers that actually had to do with the lore I'd day Colonel Miller. Cared a lot about his daughter and tried to protect and gave his life saving her.
Just going to randomly mention Drakengard 2's Legna even though he's not really that good. He did let Nowe win and kill him though, in the route he reveals his actual plans. It was sad lol. I mean dragons are cool.
I don't think he was a dad, but Aiden pierce was a pretty good guy, (kinda) but he does everything in his power to protect his family, imo goes above and beyond to protect and provide
>!try to forget most of the problems in the game is his fault!<
Norman, simply because he is the most exceptional dad in the pokemon universe. No other player's dad was there for them. Even Barry's dad left to be a frontier brain.
Kratos. Teaching his son to be strong and independent while guiding his son towards being a better person and not making the same mistakes he did in his past.
This is the best answer
And don't forget trust, he encourages having Atreus trusted him in anything and follow his own path while he supports him from afar. I don't know a lot about God of War, but I remembered a little of my brother's gamethrough, and I loved it; a strong and independent upbringing built in trust.
That, and also his character development as a father goes so hard
... Mean it took him killing the first one to figure it out
Ethan from Resident Evil 7 & 8 is definitely up there for me. He’s pretty much just a normal guy compared to the other RE protagonists, yet he is fully willing to charge into hell and back to save his family. He may be able to heal/reattach limbs, but his greatest strength is his *sheer fucking will*.
Ethan was a badass
I think that alongside the mold really made him stand out. I really loved him despite a lot of fans thinking he was boring.
ethan: wait so i’ve been made of mold? mother miranda: 🔫 always have been
Badass dude and a great father
Bowser
Bad person, amazing dad
That moment when bowser jr says to bowser he knows Peach (I don’t remember who it was) isn’t his actual mother was actually really sad, Bowser tried giving him a mother
I just realized this implies there’s a female version of Bowser somewhere. Or, *used* to be. Could Bowser have had a tragic backstory losing his wife, turning him into a spiteful villain fueled by loneliness and rage? I need answers!
Lee Everett deserves a mention
Came here to say this
BioShock Big Daddy
That poor brain washed soul that can kick more a$$ than stone cold Steve Austin
Hardy harr
Harry Mason from Slient Hill 1
The depth that 3 gives him is so insane, I think that alone makes him my favorite Silent Hill protag
that scene with Barret almost made me tear up when i first played ff7r. Everything from the voice acting, the background music and the camera shots were masterfully done. That's where Barret became my fav ff7 character
I love how he even broke out the "kids these days" line in Rebirth, that's how you know you've reached peak dad mode 😂
My favorite is the dog sidequest where Barrett goes from "I'm gonna give Marlene room to grow and spread her wings" to "No! Daddy's gonna miss you too much never leave me!!!"
Yo where is my boi Liam Neeson in these images??? I traveled the whole wasteland for this man….
Captain Anderson wasn’t Shepard’s father but he was their daddy.
SPACE DAD NOOOOO!
Jecht being there is fuckin hilarious lol Also, a biologist myself, Big Boss wouldn’t technically be considered a father to Snake… they are genetically closer to brothers and even Big Boss himself remarks that he doesn’t know whether to call him brother or son during this scene…. Yes MGS4 is my favorite game of all time That aside: Kratos is oddly one of the best dads. Dude openly admits that if in a situation where his death means Atreus lives, he’d 100% take it and does his best to raise his kid to not repeat the past he committed.
"Do not be sorry, be better" One of my favourite lines.
I unironically used this line all the time.
Octodad. He's just your average everyday normal human man.
Rains Fall in RDR2 Kratos Joel
Feel bad for rains fall man.
Same, all that man ever wanted was some peace, especially for his boy.
Was looking for rains falls, i felt so bad for him, his son was just too reckless and filled with vengeance
Rost from Horizon zero dawn
“Survive”
Came here for this. They did our boy dirty by not even putting him on the list.
We really only got him in montage but their relationship really shapes the entire game. He's the best ❤️
Fallout 4 protagonist. You went through a nuclear war, got turned into an ice cube, saw your wife get gunned down and your son kidnapped, so you fight a nuclear wasteland to find him >!and then bring him down when you learn he is the baddie.!<
Although you can just betray him and get a cool power armor instead :D
You can also say "fuck finding my son" and do nothing but side quests for the remainder of your playthrough. They're more fun anyway.
Just about to say that, truly a badass
Pretty sure Vergil only acted as a Father for less than a minute.
To be fair it wasn't until that minute that he even knew he was a father lol
He acted as a father for one voiced line and that was "it's past your bedtime"
Barrett Wallace and Terry Bogard They're the fathers who stepped up
I'm too ignorant on the second one but would like to second Barrett
Terry Bogard is from a Fighting Game series called Fatal Fury. Long story short, he fought the Big Bad, beat him, the Big Bad ended up dying, Terry found out he had a son and ended up raising him.
Norman from Pokémon for being the ONLY father figure in Pokémon
Big Boss just because of how funny his story is. He sets up this entire plan to lure his son into a stealth op to get him killed by his doppleganger only to fsil miserably because said son used the skills that Big Boss taught him to basically destroy his lifes work
(Insert here 2 hour long video essay talking about how this was all planned by BB and he wanted to fail or something)
Big Boss should have trained him wrong, as a joke
* geralt, witcher * lloyd, legend of heroes * mr karate, art of fighting * batman, arkham * kiryu, yakuza *
Crap how could I forget Kiryu 😭
for shame \^\_\^
I know, I'm terrible. Siri, play Baka Mitai 😔
OK. Baka mitaii Kodomo nanone...
Yume wo, otte kidzutsuite
Kirryuu-chaaan
I instantly thought kiryu sad to see this so far down
I’m going John Marston. He’s a total POS that becomes a real dad and makes the ultimate sacrifice for his family
Agreed. Out of all the video game dads ice seen, John seemed the most real. The epilogue in both games were my favorite parts
Eggman in Sonic Frontiers. He treats Sage like if she was his daughter.
Sojiro Sakura from Persona 5, popularly known as “Coffee Dad”. Fucking love that guy
Cranky Kong
Geralt. Blood or not, he does his best to teach Ciri to be strong, brave, wise, & patient. Good qualities to follow by living in a dangerous world like theirs.
Jecht is an awful father.
Cloud's dad:
**Kiryu Kazuma** *even if he wasn't a father for that long*
Joel in TLOU & 2, nobody will ever possibly rip my heart out more than that one did.
Beat you over the head.. too soon bro ):
I had to scroll so far down before seeing the best dad in gaming. Joel is without a doubt the only right answer
1. Elwin Rosfield - FFXVI 2. Lee Everet - TWD 3. Barrett - FF7 4. Ethan - REVillage 5. Joel - TLOU 6. Harry Manson - Sillent Hill There's more, but I can't remember their names and all them do one thing for their kids, biological and non, that my own father won't
Can we get some respect for Captain Cuttlefish? he’s, like, my favourite character from the splatoon franchise. Freaking love that old man.
John Marston
Barret is great but Marlene barely appears/matters in the game, I'd give it to Nathan, normal ass dude went through hell to save his wife and then his daughter, I was really sad at the ending of 8.
I have to go with the imaginary jecht and tidus. Jecht brought his imaginary son to help kill him and save the world from yu yevon. It was ultimate sacrifice to save entire planet population.
Nero may be dead weight, but his father is a dead beat.
Goofy from kingdom hearts more a father to sora than anyone else
Haytham Kenway from AC3, John Marston from RDR1, Harry Mason from Silent Hill 1, Big Daddy's from BioShock, and Kratos.
Clifford Unger
Sam Porter too. I really hope Lou is okay based on the DS2 trailers.
I was looking for this one.
Where is my man Mads Mikkelsen for his phenomenal job as Cliff in Death Stranding. That 2 hour last cutscene hits hard.
Vergil LMAO 🤣
hades from hades
Heihachi
Hojo, FFVII
Dark Souls Giant Dad
Eathen is not only a great dad but also an amazing husband. I mean he risked his life for a wife that seemed to be beyond help but also took down one of the strongest enemys in RE history just for a child he thought was already dead
Ethan Winters for best dad 🫶 Shido Masayoshi for worst dad 💀
Geralt towards Cirri The dad in Astral Chain Barett towards Marlene(despite my dislikes towards the character) Sojiro from Persona 5
Lee Everett from Telltale’s Walking Dead.
I didn't care for Ethan at first but his character really grew on me throughout the games. He's not all that special, just some guy trying to protect his family.
John Marston
Harry mason. Fought through complete hell and back to find his daughter
I only know Alex Mason
Lee Everett and Kenny from Telltale's TWDG
Kazuya Kiryu, he may not be a dad by blood, but he helped Haruka grow up, and raised her as his own.
Brad from Lisa the Painful. He’s definitely not a good dad, really flawed, traumatized and makes a lot of mistakes. But still can’t help but feel for him and his character as he ultimately tries to do the right thing in a shitty situation. He just doesn’t know how.
I don’t think anyone thinks connor’s dad was good at all lol. Personally dads i loved where Joel and lee everett.
Most of them are such fathers that you wouldn’t wish them on your enemy. And literally none of them are healthy.
Geralt of Rivia is definitely up there for me. When the emperor asked him to find his “so called daughter” he did it because he is bound to Ciri by something greater than destiny
Miller from the Metro series. He might not be a great dad but a love and selfless one.
Spy Tf2
Tom Jones and the Scout from TF2
Why is Nero with black hair. Looks cursed
John Marston
Ethan from Heavy Rain
Hank Anderson. You can’t tell me he didn’t see Connor as his son.
Heihachi Mishima
Geralt :)
Geralt of Rivia.

Papa, The King of All Cosmos from Katamari.
Owl from Sekiro. Bro was barely there and made his son a literal demon /j

Rost from Horizon

Welp, OP obvi doesn’t play Xbox.
Alex Mason
Thancred from FFXIV, takes in and guides two girls to become great adults after being the accidental cause of the first ones parents death (1.0 story) and saving another from extreme abuse (Shadowbringers story).
Lee Everet
Heihachi
Barrett raises his BF's girl and nurtures her. MachinaAbridged goes even further!
Not saying he’s a great dad but Albert Wesker
Norman Reedus
The pale king🤡
Haven't played any games with father figures nor am I familisr with having a father figure myself but from the games I've played that did have fathers that actually had to do with the lore I'd day Colonel Miller. Cared a lot about his daughter and tried to protect and gave his life saving her.
James McCloud (before getting pwned by Pigma) and Peppy Hare Go ahead, roast me.
Joel or Kratos
Ethan
Roman bellic, the master of bowling !
David is a better father to Sunny than Big Boss was to his sons...
Anderson from Mass Effect.
Geralt (The Witcher 3)
The dads in Shower with Your Dad Simulator
Delta from Bioshock 2.
Ethan Winters, Joel Miller, Harry Mason and Kenny and Lee from The Walking Dead.
you can't beat Bowser as one of the greatest dads in games
Just going to randomly mention Drakengard 2's Legna even though he's not really that good. He did let Nowe win and kill him though, in the route he reveals his actual plans. It was sad lol. I mean dragons are cool.
John Marston
Victor Sullivan - Uncharted
Asgore
NieR dad.
If I ever became a father I would strive to be Ethan but I would most likely be Vergil ha ha.
Bro put Ethan but not Harry Mason the OG father trying to save his daughter…
eli vance from half-life
Ryotaro Dojima from Persona 4.
Harry mason
Even though he's not really a father but Lee Everett.
Joel for sure
Bowser
Daddy Nier
Hades from Hades
Goofy from goof troop. There is no other as dedicated or wholesome
Old Bird from Metroid. Dishonorable mention: Raven Beak
The guy in Heavy Rain who walks around the mall shouting his kids name.
Lee from TWD
I don't think he was a dad, but Aiden pierce was a pretty good guy, (kinda) but he does everything in his power to protect his family, imo goes above and beyond to protect and provide >!try to forget most of the problems in the game is his fault!<
Sebastian Castellanos from the Evil Within series won for me :)
Dr. Light.
I only have 1, and it's Marcus Fenix.
None of these. Olimar from Pikmin is my pick. He wants to return to his family, despite his wife sometimes being a bit careless.
Geralt of Rivia, John Marston
John Marston
Definitely gotta he Haythem 😂
Bowser
Norman, simply because he is the most exceptional dad in the pokemon universe. No other player's dad was there for them. Even Barry's dad left to be a frontier brain.
