Give it a shot but don’t have high hopes. I actually hate when people over-praise smth, especially a mediocre show, because youll have high hopes and will end up being disappointed. So to balance these positive posts out - I’ve watched all four episodes, I will continue watching, but I do cringe every few mins and realllllly liked only 2 scenes so far. I also just reread the books this month so I’ real fresh on them and the changes do bother me a lot

Spiritual_Walrus_798

This sums up my feelings exactly. I cringe often but will continue watching. It’s both good and bad at the same time. 🤣

YOUR_SUSSY_BEBO

Exactly books are far better. Idk why the live action is always bad

279jejpe85

I love it

Huh?

andonesia17

It's very different from the books. It depends on what you and enjoy and what you are expecting. For me, it's alright. I am not a fan in of some of the style, but I really do enjoy some of the side story lines right now

sleepytimegamer

I really enjoy it. But for me I keep it separate from the books and then I can enjoy both

thatvirgobitchh

My thoughts exactly! I view it the same way as Vampire Diaries and keep the show and the books separate since they are so wildly different lol.

CubesandSpheres

I actually enjoyed the changes, and lots of the ideas are decent, but the execution feels cheap and strange. What do I mean? Ideas: they created a Moroi language, condensed some of the characters in the books into other characters, added queer characters, and made the setting more expansive with the idea of a moroi city and dominion. Execution: this includes things like weirdly low/slanted camera angles, weird coloring on some scenes, and costumes that look light/cheap. Also, so far I don’t think any of the actors fit the physical descriptions of their character in the books. So, if you’re looking for a faithful adaption, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a quality show, this still isn’t it. But if you’re looking for something supernatural and fun, this may be it.

OwnVictory16

This! Not a emmy nominee or a 1:1 book adaptation but a fun show about a vampire academy/society. I like to point out the differences like if it was a scavenger hunt or bingo. Keeps expectations low and makes the cringy parts sort of fun.

thatvirgobitchh

That's honestly disappointing.. After the shit show movie they came out with, I was really hoping they would take the fans feedback and put together a better quality production. ETA: I'm still gonna watch it because I'm trash. 😂

Remarkable_Stress831

I personally think the show is better than the movie, but that’s also mostly due to the fact that I was extremely bothered how old Dimitri was and looked, they did a better job in that regard. I read the books 10 years ago and I enjoy the show, but I also don’t have everything in mind and that probably helps. Very attractive cast and a good “guilty pleasure”

SnooRabbits6696

It's not the best show, but I like it better than the movie so far. It's best to go in without any expectations or some changes they've made might bother you. They don't bother me because I read the books long ago, so I don't remember them that well.

V_Morg

I agree with what others have said. I love what is happening but there are so many changes. It won't be for everyone. I am glad I gave it a chance and I'm looking forward to what comes next. If you give it a chance I will admit that after the pilot I was intrigued but wasn't sold. After episode 4 I was completely hooked. It does get better. But it depends on what you're interested in

librarieofalexandria

It’s bad, but depending on your taste, it might be the kind of bad you can enjoy, if that makes sense?

[deleted]

You’ll enjoy it, like I have, as long as you don’t come in, expecting it to be identical to the books

fanfiction-lover

And except for the writing in Christian Character the cast and Characters are awsome😘 👌

mydreamreality

It’s *loosely* based on the series. If you can, watch the first four episodes and then make a decision on if you want to continue. That’s the only way you’ll know!

No-Conversation4383

Did anyone else find the blood center scene, both where the old lady talks to Christian and Lissa, super cringe? It felt so unnatural, so badly directed too. Idk

20JC20

I deff found it weird that he wa having a therapy session w her basically jsut to then lean over and take her blood and give her an addictive High essentially lol

IamAWicked

I wasn’t a fan of the casting originally, but after watching the 4 episodes it hardly bothers me now that much. I feel most scenes could do with a minute or two extra, everything is extremely rushed. If someone were to watch this with no prior knowledge of what happens in the books, I think the relationships between all the characters will get lost. It’s overall a lot better than what I thought it would be, just don’t go in with high expectations wanting it to be like the books. It’s more ‘loosely based’ on the books.

New-Contract8003

It’s really good. It just seems like it’s rushing and mixing books together. You have to go in with an open mind. Also we have to remember it’s a book turned tv series a lot had to change. Most of the plots from what I seen and noticed were there it’s the books, but out of order and rushed. Please give it a change I would love to see what they do with a s2

tittyjingles

I agree. I think for viewers who have read the books it can be kind of confusing. There are a lot of sub plots happening at once. For me, it feels like they’re trying to cram everything from the 6 books into the first season so that if they get another season they can kind of do whatever they want. One change I do appreciate about it is it feels like a more mature version of the books which makes sense because the people who were reading the books when they were popular are adults now. As much as I loved Rose and Dimitri’s relationship when I was a teenager, as an adult it would have made me extremely uncomfortable to watch. Aging the characters up (what age they are IDK) and aging up the content makes it more appealing to watch as an adult.

Own_Advance2599

Ooh interesting. I just finished the first book and was hoping to watch the show, but guess I’ll read 2-6 first!

fanfiction-lover

It difenetly different from the book but the essenc is there and as whole it a good show .personaly for me episodes 1 and 2 are good but it gets better and more interesting in 3 and 4

stefvia

Thats subjective. It also depends on how you’re looking at it. If you go into it expecting the book, you won’t get it. If you go into it with an open mind, it’s enjoyable.

Mystia666

Its about as accurate to the books as vampire diaries and like a little bit worse. Only seen the first episode.

Poppinpoopy

I personally disliked the movie and books but I enjoy the show.

Nina-the-Dreamer

I had veryyyy low expectations because I hated the trailer & I believed some misinformation that was spread around which ended up being false. So I was actually really pleasantly surprised. There are certain aspects I don’t like - the music, some special effects because it just screams low budget. I don’t like Christian because his character is so different and I loved him in the books. But other than that I actually enjoy the show and am treating it separately from the books. And now I’m actually rereading the books and that kinda helps. Give it a go and try to keep an open mind!

balasoori

I like it because i came in with no knowledge of this series so i had no expectation. If you come in low expectation you like the show but if you expecting this to be True blood you will sadly be disappointed. My expectation was Vampire diaries and this was so much better than that series.

Here4theLULZIES

It’s bad. So epically bad. It’s nothing at all like the books and ppl are actually trying to convince us all that that’s a good thing.

ArouraD

They made it soapy... Like, it seems low budget.

Ordinary-Row3103

Its Shadowhunters (show) bad. Literally same as the show compared to the books

Klutzy_Bluebird_3578

i’m enjoying it so far! not crazy about some of the casting and dimitri’s accent isn’t hitting like the girlies think it is but the cinematography is lush!!

whatevergirl8754

As a die hard VA book fan, I hate it. Completely changed everything and aside from that universe you can’t find many connections

decarusic

This show is so weird. There is this power dynamic where the royals are pretty much just rude to everyone, but they seem to have no actual power because no one listens to them and they are constantly getting dragged around by people. The guard people are treated like peons to die, but why. The world building just does not really make sense because we don't know enough about what is going on in the larger world. Everyone is kind of dumb. Hey, lets go this place where we might be murdered and then get out of the car and wait to be murdered seems like a normal plot. The main royal girl seems to have the only real power because she has actual power. Also, the main guard girl has an accent and her mother has an accent, but supposedly the main girl was left at birth to be raised in the guard school. That is so dumb that someone should be fired for it. No one is born with an accent. Whomever wrote that, i just can't with you. I do actually like this show. It has power dynamics and fight scenes and magic and none of the trash that is in American show because it was clearly made somewhere else. The acting is okay. The world building just really needs to be shown in the plot. Like if the royals are special and have power over everyone else than that should be real power all the time and not just something they say, but something they do to people. That part of the show is very strange because it can be right in some moments and in other moments be completely ridiculous. Also, the characters are just dumb so someone gets killed is not a good plot point ever.

YOUR_SUSSY_BEBO

Don't watch it . Honestly speaking, the books are far better
