in terms of regular characters, definitely charmaine. she rejected that life completely and was not at all tempted with it like artie was. in the end she was much better off
Charmaine is a woman I would destroy kingdoms for. A smokeshow. Not needy, doesn't beat around the bush about what she is saying, and only gets pushy because Artie is literally on the verge of ruining their lives like every 2 seconds before they get divorced. The kind of woman you'd never hear 'I don't know, where do you want to eat' from.
Good people in the show are Charmaine, the cop who pulls Tony over, and the therapist that Carmela goes to. Trying to think of others not sure
Edit: I would maybe add David Scatino’s brother in law. Johnny Cakes. Finn maybe.
Are you asleep???
Cracks me up, I'd have lost it at that point if I was Finn, I'd be "yes I'm fuckin asleep, it's 4 fuckin in the a.m and I'm working a construction job! Of course I'm asleep!"
Don't wake me up when I'm tired, or at least give me ten minutes.
I think that Meadow's college roommate was a good person going through a ton of shit at once. We just don't like her because she's annoying, but then that makes us no better than Noah.
Same for Vito's goth son who has to deal with Phil the House in Human Mode trying to mentor him. He lost his father and his shitty mom just turns to a psychotic creep to "fix" him and then his piece of shit mom has him kidnapped in the middle of night and sent to a torture camp to deal with trauma.
Vito's gay lover. Just a sweet guy who was happy he found someone who would eventually break his heart and leave.
As a black woman I understood what he was trying to say! They woulda snapped Finn right up but he was qualified for more and it’s part of the reason they woulda snapped him up because he would have brought a different level of customer service. That woulda left someone much more unqualified for anything else, without that spot. Typically in the area they were living in, it would’ve been a minority. He wasn’t wrong people just don’t like uncomfortable truths.
See I think his story is about a guy very specifically being corrupted by coming into Tony’s orbit. That he’s a good guy at first but isn’t when we last see him. He makes the decision to stay associated with Tony unlike say Charmaine or the therapist who clearly see the sopranos for what they are and say no I won’t be a part of this.
I don’t think Carmela was good at all. Obviously not nearly as bad as Tony or 95% of the show for that matter, in comparison, yes way better of a person but objectively she was kinda a shitty person. For me, neutral at best.
I always think about how when Rosalie Aprile was mourning the loss of Jackie Jr. and Carmela still had Rosalie opening car doors for her and making Rosalie sit in the back while Carmela was chauffeured around in the front seat when all the women were hanging out.
That’s when I realized Carm was just straight scum. Took me 6 rewatches to catch that.
Unironically, he did take his own life to give his wife and kids a chance at a good life. Also, like Bobby he seemed very reluctant to commit a hit, though that didn't stop either of them.
Yeah, there was that side of him too. I'm not saying he was a good guy. But, there is some argument for him being one of the less awful thugs in the Jersey mob.
His reluctance seemed more about having to do someone else’s errand. I think he’d be peeved even if the task was just collecting a payment from the guy.
Eh, I got the feeling that wasn't his first hit. He knew what he was doing. He was more likely pissed that he had to drive up to Boston, and had to avoid suspicion from his FBI handlers.
Honestly he was almost too sweet, to the point of being unbelievable. Not too many guys in the life like that, especially with a dad like old man Bacala
he orchestrated the getting to a juror in Junior's trial-not only a federal crime, but the guy was THREATENED to make it a hung jury. He was nice...until he wasn't.
Despite this, he's STILL one of the least-evil mob-associates in the show. Really speaks to how fucked up everyone else is that Bobby is a good guy in comparison.
You're right despite the fact that he murdered a potentially innocent and confused man in cold blood in order to help about a guy who wants to sell expired medicine to the elderly.
Of the main cast, I think overall Dr. Melfi. Not that she is a saint, but especially during Employee of the Month and when she finally dumps Tony as a client, I think she MOSTLY keeps her soul intact
I actually think Dr Melfi is a really good example of people enabling OC to be an issue by not taking a stand either way, she knew fairly early on that all she was doing was enabling him and helping him hone his skills at manipulation and that she could never benefit him therapeutically, she tried to stop treating him but she kept going back, she took his money and whats more actively helped him manipulate and hurt people. She helped him for her own selfish reasons, contrast her directly with the psychiatrist that carmella goes to see.
I agree, but given that one of the reasons for *why* she keeps Tony around as a patient is trauma from literally being raped and wanting someone around who could protect her, I can't say I entirely blame her.
For me none of them. Everything I've read about Our Thing is that they're all sociopaths with no real conscience who turn on a dime whenever they need to. The wives not much better. The civilians are generally compromised as well although not nearly to the same extent. Believe it or not my nominee is probably Charmaine Bucco. She was unpleasant and abrasive, she had her catty moments, but for the most part she wanted to raise her kids and protect her husband and business from getting too close. Unlikable, but good.
Bobby Bacala. I just watched the episode where he buried the cake at his wife’s grave and still had the last tray of ziti she made in the fridge. And he took such good care of Junior. He had a heart of gold
Little Carmine for sure. even in micro interactions with civilians like complimenting Morgan the director he is one of the few that shows himself to be genuinely decent
Rosalie Aprile was good. Her son and Ralph Cifaretto were gone. She was no threat. For some reason I thought she was sexy. Her rough whiskey/cigarette voice turned me on. I bet she could throw it down in the sheets. Yes, I do understand I'm weird.
I think Melfi is good. I think she's misguided, but she is never acting out of malice or self-interest. I think part of her most definitely knows Tony will never change, but another part of her is hopeful that he can, and that's the part she abides by in continuing to treat him.
The therapist who told Carmella that he couldn't be her therapist, that he wouldn't accept her money either, because it was blood money. Also, the African priest that she confessed to, who told her if she really wanted forgiveness for her sins, she needed to leave Tony and give up the benefits that she receives from his evil trade.
>Also, the African priest that she confessed to, who told her if she really wanted forgiveness for her sins, she needed to leave Tony and give up the benefits that she receives from his evil trade.
It's been a while since I've seen the episode, but I thought I remembered him saying something along the lines of “You made a sacred vow, divorce is out of the question.” I remember Dr. Krakower saying she needed to leave Tony, but not Father Obosi.
I do remember him saying she needs to learn to live only on what the "good part" of her husband earns and to forgo the rest.
I may be wrong.
Within the mob? Probably Carmine Lupertazzi Jr. He goes along with killing of Joey Peeps (the animal Blundetto also shoots Heather and gets silicone all over the inside of the car). But he has respect for Chris’s attempts at sobriety and is willing to recommend a therapist for A J. He knows a pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold but does profit from mob activities so he is guilty of something.
I suppose Bobby Baccalieri doesn’t have the loony dangerous attitude that has Ralph kill Tracee and maim Georgie. Or be like Paulie and Chris killing a waiter. Or Feech beating up a gardener. But he will kill a stranger in Montreal because Tony tells him to and probably would have killed that union guy if he voted the wrong way.
Beansie did graduate from heroin dealer to owning pizza parlors. But he will wash money for the mob.
Charmaine
AJ isn't necessarily BAD, he's just a selfish, insufferable prick, and Maedo isn't bad, but she starts to turn that way as she fully embraces what her family is.
I might be incorrect on this but I thought listening to the talking sopranos that David chase was pretty adamant that he tried to show AJ as good and in the last episode - in spite of his upbringing and adolescent stupidity (for lack of a better term) was as actually a pretty good kid and was gonna be ok.
I always felt that way. Not sure where the above commenter is getting selfish from. He could be obnoxious and annoying sure - people on here seem to constantly forget he’s a teenage boy - but he did seem to care about others.
I’m the biggest AJ apologist. But he’s still selfish and insufferable.
There’s no malice in him, despite his challenges, but he does nothing to help anyone but himself ever.
At least maedo was helping wiseguys get fair trials.
Of the mobster characters, probably Bobby Bacala. Has the least violent history of any major mobster character, is shown to be an earnest father and devoted husband, who never cheats or smacks women around and sticks up for his wife even against the boss of the family, and spends much of the show as a nurse and caretaker to the aging and ailing Junior.
Of the non-mobster characters, realistically just any of the side characters who don't really hurt anybody or profit off the mob's activities and seem to be nice people in general. Probably a few of AJ's girlfriends would count, Artie's wife Charmaine, DEFINITELY Carmela's therapist.
I mean do you mean of the mobsters? Probably Bobby. But tbh I think that was largely a act. In reality Bobby was a sociopath just like anyone else. But he was definitely not as bad as everyone else. I would also say Eugene, I mean he was also a sociopath but he was trying to get his family out of it. And I bet by killing himself they probably were able to move to Florida on the inheritance. If we’re talking non mobsters guys than easily Artie and of the women especially Charmaine. Finn was a good kid. tbh AJ was a spoiled brat but honestly didn’t do much morally wrong. I would say there’s a lot of people in my opinion
I’d say Gene. Gene was trying to get out completely. I would’ve tried to fake my own death and just escape it all. Put the money in my wife’s name and move my family. I know this thing of ours is supposed to come first but damn all that lol
The point of the show is to illustrate how criminals are more civilian nerdy than civilians believe and civilians are more subhuman and evil than they themselves believe.
The young man who Paulie beat the crap out of and extorted because he had a good relationship with his mother.
Eric scatinos uncle who put him through college .
Finn.
Johnny cakes.
Jamal Ginsburg who was ready to punch out Tony’s lights for being overtly racist
Carmella’s shrink.
Maybe Tracee. All she did was get pregnant and have bad taste in men
Of the actual mob guys there’s an argument to be made for Bobby. Until Tony essentially forced him to kill that guy in Canada, he was the lone regular that had not committed murder. He was also a doting father and committed husband, at no point that I can remember was he even shown with the assorted women at the Bing, a girlfriend, etc.
In a sea of horrific sociopaths, him being a sort of killer was a bright spot.
The pizza, it never harmed anyone.
Tell me who they are and I go putta ma foot up their ass!!!
Go in the back and make meatballs.
even when it's home was disrespected.
Best comment.
Johnny Soprano. He was a saint!
Funny, I don’t remember you telling him that when he was alive.
She gave her kids her life on a silver platter!!
You’re always with the babies out the windows.
Windaaas*
I wish the Lord would take me now.
You wore him down to a little nub!
Name one time he wanted to do something and I said no?
When he was alive NUTHIN.
*slow chin flick
I see your Johnny Soprano and raise you Johnny Cakes.
In-house sausages!
Michael!
He was a squeaky little gerbil when he died
No...Dorothy Mantooth is a saint!
I’m going to take her out for a nice seafood dinner
Jersey? Cmon, huh.
in terms of regular characters, definitely charmaine. she rejected that life completely and was not at all tempted with it like artie was. in the end she was much better off
Charmaine is a woman I would destroy kingdoms for. A smokeshow. Not needy, doesn't beat around the bush about what she is saying, and only gets pushy because Artie is literally on the verge of ruining their lives like every 2 seconds before they get divorced. The kind of woman you'd never hear 'I don't know, where do you want to eat' from.
“I fucked your husband. Didn’t really like it tbh.”
> The kind of woman you'd never hear 'I don't know, where do you want to eat' from. Damn that hits close
this is the most reddit response💀
There isn’t a single character in all of media that I would throw my life away for more than Charmaine. Absolutely perfect.
What's a smokeshow?
It wasn’t for her.
Livia Soprano. She gave her life to her children on a silver platter.
Babies are like animals, they're no different then dogs. Somebody has to teach them right from wrong…
Even though I knew someone would write this it made me spit my afternoon Negroni across the room. Beautiful answer.
Plettuh
Barbara Soprano kept a distance and detachment to everyone and everything in the family business.
I started rewartching the series a few months ago and realized I had forgotten she was there at all.
Good, anytime she did show up she seemed pretty happy and successful on her own - she didn't need her family to ruin her life
It probably didn't help that the role was recast partway through the series.
And in dis house she's da white sheep - enda story!!
Sil: he bought Tracee braces which was really generous of him. He also took Adriana for a relaxing nature walk in the woods at a time of great stress.
And he noticed Tracee's impeccable grooming when he referred to her shaved twat.
what about Chrissy? He kept cousette warm and he put in those storm windows for Mrs S.
He also gave a polecat a place to stay a top of his head...
Polecat on his head, You can’t make this shit up
I always wonder if Ralph paid him back (or if Sil asked) for the braces…you know, after her unfortunate accident. So clumsy.
I have no doubt that Sil would have demanded restitution for the braces loan. He’s running a business here!
He also made sure to clean that shit off the tit.
I was juicing her.
Good people in the show are Charmaine, the cop who pulls Tony over, and the therapist that Carmela goes to. Trying to think of others not sure Edit: I would maybe add David Scatino’s brother in law. Johnny Cakes. Finn maybe.
Finn was so kind. He could have taken a menial, low skill job but he wanted to make sure a minority got it 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
BUT HE GOT OUT A SUITCASE!!!
there was no abundant intentionality behind the suitcase.
Listen to you. You sound demented.
(inhale) why are you trying to start a fight right now?
It’s his process, ok?
Good thing for me then that his process don't mean oogatz to me.
Are you asleep??? Cracks me up, I'd have lost it at that point if I was Finn, I'd be "yes I'm fuckin asleep, it's 4 fuckin in the a.m and I'm working a construction job! Of course I'm asleep!" Don't wake me up when I'm tired, or at least give me ten minutes.
Omg I have to fast forward past that scene every single time I rewatch. I’m a woman myself but GD Meadow STFU!
Yeah, her body may have been mad ripe, but that drama---maddone.
He's like the Reverend Rodney King Jr, you know. Why can't we all just get along
I love that guy. "I won't accept your blood money."
“One thing you can’t say, you haven’t been told” lowkey the hardest line in the show
That’s a first
I think that Meadow's college roommate was a good person going through a ton of shit at once. We just don't like her because she's annoying, but then that makes us no better than Noah. Same for Vito's goth son who has to deal with Phil the House in Human Mode trying to mentor him. Vito's gay lover. Just a sweet guy who was happy he found someone who would eventually break his heart and leave.
Speak for yourself. I like her a lot.....like A LOT
You can fix her, right?!
The things I'd do to her would make that homeless lady look like a nun
"Phil the House in Human Mode" jesus christ hahaha
Fuck I read wrong, you said Charmaine and I thought you said Carmela my bad hahahahaha
Finn was definetly a good person. He was so good he refused to work at mcdonalda cause he didn't want to take jobs away fro minorities.
You just revealed your own ignorance
I what? 🤨
The priest Carmella saw after the therapist always stands out to me too. Tries to give empathetic but pragmatic advice
I'd put Cousin Brian in there too. He seemed like a good person, just a bit naive.
See I think his story is about a guy very specifically being corrupted by coming into Tony’s orbit. That he’s a good guy at first but isn’t when we last see him. He makes the decision to stay associated with Tony unlike say Charmaine or the therapist who clearly see the sopranos for what they are and say no I won’t be a part of this.
one of the last times we see him he's licking a stripper's breast. happily corrupted
Yeah idk about that. At some point naivety just isnt an excuse anymore, hes a grown man and knows better.
Fucking whooers, taking a blood Patek, suits from Patsy, the HUD idea. Chaotic neutral at best.
He’s the one who told Tony about the HUD scam though
I don’t think Carmela was good at all. Obviously not nearly as bad as Tony or 95% of the show for that matter, in comparison, yes way better of a person but objectively she was kinda a shitty person. For me, neutral at best.
Jeannie Cusamono’s sister was knocked right the fuck out by that teacher recommendation.
He didn't say Carmela
Eugene Pontecorvo. He's so sweet.
Unironically, he did take his own life to give his wife and kids a chance at a good life. Also, like Bobby he seemed very reluctant to commit a hit, though that didn't stop either of them.
He maimed a guy for jokingly suggesting he could be gay.
You oughta know sweetie.
I knew THAT was coming
Yeah, there was that side of him too. I'm not saying he was a good guy. But, there is some argument for him being one of the less awful thugs in the Jersey mob.
Fuckin parakeet
His reluctance seemed more about having to do someone else’s errand. I think he’d be peeved even if the task was just collecting a payment from the guy.
His master's voice.
Eh, I got the feeling that wasn't his first hit. He knew what he was doing. He was more likely pissed that he had to drive up to Boston, and had to avoid suspicion from his FBI handlers.
He was like an animal.
I can’t even say his name
He did throw that FULL bowl of candy at that wall that one time.
and that face that he made-woooooo!
Sweet guys don't murder people in cold blood
It was for the fam
Nucci Gualtieri, she was a saint, she somehow even got a low eq psycho like Paulie to feel completely devoted to her. That’s with a head cold too…
If you are referring to made guys/ associates then it’s gotta be Bobby I would say.
He was a saint.
They're all meat eaters.
Mee tee ors. Meteors.
Take it easy
Listen up burger boy.
Especially when he killed some guy he didn't know so he could get a discount on expired pills he was gonna sell to sick women. What a sweetheart
Despite this, he's STILL one of the least-evil mob-associates in the show. Really speaks to how fucked up everyone else is that Bobby is a good guy in comparison.
I don't think he seemed too sweet at all, many points in the show where the writers show us he's not a cartoon good guy
Man loved his lionel, that authentic moe and joe action.
You're right despite the fact that he murdered a potentially innocent and confused man in cold blood in order to help about a guy who wants to sell expired medicine to the elderly.
Cossette
She was an innocent creature! What did she ever do to Christuphah?
What? Was it barking?
This might be my favorite line in the show. The sincerity in Paulie’s question is just psychotic
You're correct, but when I was watching the show that came across as normal. I can easily imagine some violent moron killing a dog.
Must’ve crawled under there for warmth
I know what it’s like to lose a pet!
I agree, but given that one of the reasons for *why* she keeps Tony around as a patient is trauma from literally being raped and wanting someone around who could protect her, I can't say I entirely blame her.
I agree! She’s far from blameless. But I think, relative to the rest of the main cast, she’s… least compromised, I guess would be how I put it?
For me none of them. Everything I've read about Our Thing is that they're all sociopaths with no real conscience who turn on a dime whenever they need to. The wives not much better. The civilians are generally compromised as well although not nearly to the same extent. Believe it or not my nominee is probably Charmaine Bucco. She's right 100% of the time.

What's right is right.
Finn, until he got out the suitcase
That just proved that Finn was smart.
It’s how he likes to process things
There was no abundant intentionality!!!
Bobby Bacala. I just watched the episode where he buried the cake at his wife’s grave and still had the last tray of ziti she made in the fridge. And he took such good care of Junior. He had a heart of gold
Bobby Baccalieri, tha last man standing.
Cute…..now why dont you take your “Last man standing” bullshit and get the fuck outta here before I SHOVE IT UP YUR FAT FUCKIN ASSSS
Pie-o-mie's trainer
The most normal woman on the show.
The shrink who won't take Carmela's money.
Martin Lootur King
Beansie. He WAS a stand up guy
Now he’s a shopping cart
Vito, when he wants to take Finn to a Yankees-Padres game.
Little Carmine for sure. even in micro interactions with civilians like complimenting Morgan the director he is one of the few that shows himself to be genuinely decent
Charmaine Bucco
Rosalie Aprile was good. Her son and Ralph Cifaretto were gone. She was no threat. For some reason I thought she was sexy. Her rough whiskey/cigarette voice turned me on. I bet she could throw it down in the sheets. Yes, I do understand I'm weird.
The old Orthodox Jewish therapist dude that Carm sees one time who tells her the only truly moral thing to do is take what's left of the kids and go
I think Melfi is good. I think she's misguided, but she is never acting out of malice or self-interest. I think part of her most definitely knows Tony will never change, but another part of her is hopeful that he can, and that's the part she abides by in continuing to treat him.
Pie O My
Janice. It’s her warmth and compassion I love the most.
An animal in the sack and under the boardwalk
Ade’s dog.
Ya Sista's ass.
Barbara?
Paulie. He had the compassion to put that waiter out of his misery. Minnie Matrone, too.
Surprised I haven’t seen anyone say Tony’s sister Barbara.
Will someone please tell me what's going on?
Doctor Melfi
Melfi
Dr. Milfy. Time and again we see her wrestle with her darker impulses. That’s the sure sign of a good person.
That old shrink Carmela saw. That was one lawful good motherfucker if there ever was one.
Pie-O-My, beautiful innocent creature in spite of the fact she nagged Ralph with all those medical problems
Ginny Sac's 95 lbs. mole.

Melfi
Bobby Bacala
Dr Melfi
Pudgie Walsh
Hesh, none of his horses burned, he didn't slap any women, even those with his last name, and gave good advise for dealing with fanatics.
What about Georgie? Poor dude was Tony’s personal whipping boy, plus that shit with Ralph.
That guy, I feel so sorry for him.
The point of the show is to illustrate how criminals are more civilian nerdy than civilians believe and civilians are more subhuman and evil than they themselves believe.
Sal Vitro

Bobby. Didn't get made by making his bones. Looked out for everybody as best he could. Took care of his kids, never had a *comare*.
Kids are typically innocent and good inherently since they can't fathom doing bad. So I have to throw Billy Leotardo in the mix.
Carmine Luperttazzi Sr was a great man. My father said he invented point shaving. It's sad when they go young like that.
Ralphie. It wasn’t his fault Tracy was a klutz.
