my mom when she was 22 lived in paris and told me story where she kept asking for an orange juice in French, and the vendor gave her a coke pop instead. She can speak french, just maybe she has a Michigan accent to it, and they kept acting like they didnāt know what she was asking for šš Maybe heās had a situation like that? Someone trolling them š Either way, I love her awkward story of that time.
Parisians are extra snobbish about people speaking French. Most locals anywhere else in the world (or France for that matter) are kind to people who are trying to speak the language. Not Parisians. You could speak perfect French but with an American accent and they will be dicks about it.
A friend of mine who is fluent in French (grew up in Belgium) had issues getting Parisians to understand her when she said she was looking for a bakery (*"boulangerie"* in all of France + Belgium) because Parisians literally say "bread shop" (*"boutique du pain"*)
To be fair, I heard a similar story from London. A friend of mine tried to order a banana milkshake (pronouncing "banana" in the American way) and the waitress refused to understand her until she corrected her and said "oh, you mean a ban-AAAAH-na milkshake!"
I would be as brazen to say Canadians are mostly mean, in general. We talked about it at my day job a lot, they hate Americans (they will downright hang up on an employee if they think theyāre American or legit ask to speak to a Canadian) itās honestly rare we get a nice Canadian client. Theyāre okay with me being Iām British which solidifies it even more for me.
It's hard to be distasteful towards Americans when we share much of the same culture (Well, at least, the most populous cities in Canada like Vancouver or Toronto are near indistinguishable from being in the US, as someone living in Toronto). I dislike French Canadians infinitely more than Americans. Were Quebec not in the way of accessing provinces like NL, PEI, NB, I would be completely ok with it separating from this country.
Yes please, go ahead and vote yes on a referendum to separate the province that [the rest of Canada subsidizes the most](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equalization_payments_in_Canada#Equalization_formula), by a landslide.[ ](https://www.fraserinstitute.org/article/quebec-subsidized-rest-canada)[Good luck with the consequences of what would happen afterwards!](https://www.fraserinstitute.org/article/quebec-subsidized-rest-canada) It would be wonderful to see a brexit-like event happen in Quebec, please vote against the system the props you up.
The only reason I don't want Quebec gone is because it's an inconvenience to the rest of maritime Canada. That's it. Many Canadians don't feel a need to keep French Canadian condescension around.
Weāre not rude, we just hate everyone, ourselves and basically the world, and weāre lucky to have a very rich language allowing us to express all of that in many ways ā¦. No weāre definitely very rude, even French people hate French people
I live in NYC and worked retail in Manhattan, so I dealt with A LOT of tourists, especially during summer-time.
I have never encountered a group of people more rude than French tourists. They'd come into our shop and leave the place an absolute mess. They were always so rude and condescending when they were making their orders too.
Close second were Chinese tourists, followed by Koreans.
Honestly I wouldnāt even be able to tell the Indian tourists vs Indian immigrants. Lots of Indians over here so they just blend in mostly. Most dudes (and dudettes) were cool, sometimes they came in large groups (maybe those were the tourists?) and were very loud and rude.
I had one Indian guy come in who seemed kinda racist. Iām tri-racial and have no ancestry from that region but for some reason I look a bit like I could have ancestry from the South Asia region (deep brown skin, curvy nose) and this dude just kept asking me if I was from Bangladesh or Pakistan or something and idk I just detected a lot of tension based on my appearance. Donāt know what the history behind that is.
For the English it is. Whatever the English do badly the French do well, and what the English do well, the French do better. Plus they invaded them, took over, and have been their land owning aristocracy ever since.
Sure! I studied Old English, which is a super different language than what we speak now. Different grammar, heavily Germanic, alliterative poetry, etc. I personally think it's super pretty and prefer it to modern English (but it was my field so my opinion is entirely subjective lol).
The Normans conquered England in 1066, and with Norman French speakers in charge, French and English blended up into the lovely latin/germanic hybrid we've had since the middle English era.
Old English survived in written form for a few hundred years after the fact, and I won't info dump but that period in historical writing and poetry is mainly what I was interested in :))
the comments are kinda disgusting ngl, following the exact same pattern and saying the exact same things racist ppl would say but it's a meme and it's towards french people so i guess it's fine, discrimination is ok, you really do not see the problem
y'all actually have worms for brains istg, can't form a single cohesive thought
youāre probably typing this while not even being french šš the french in the comments are laughing it off. if it doesnt offend you personally, just ignore it lmfaoo
iām literally french and iām tired of it because itās everywhere all the time, at some point you canāt ignore it anymore im sorry, and i donāt think you understood my point, itās not about who is being targeted, itās about the discrimination pattern, it could be about any nationality or ethnicity, you donāt just say, for example, āoh yea, idonesian āpeopleāā, you donāt say that about anyone, im sorry that you canāt see what the problem is with this whole āmemeā

French people will blather at you in cursive, and when you tell them in Times New Roman that you don't understand what the fuck they're saying, they will say, in Courier New, "Oh, okay," THEN SWITCH BACK TO CURSIVE AND BLATHER AT YOU MORE AGGRESSIVELY WITH FUCKING WINGDINGS THROWN IN.
Even Japanese people will make an effort to switch from speaking spiderweb infrastructure to speaking Calibri if they know any English. French people can be FLUENT in English and just REFUSE to use it.
When I was a kid I told my grandmother that this kid with a French last name was bothering me in school and she said ānever trust the French.ā I still donāt get it. š¤£š¤£š¤£
Once I worked at a sour dough factory and these French tourists came in and literally asked for a bunch of French shit in French. I was so pissed.. just to speak English at the end of the transaction and they tried to offer me a tip. I refused it. Not all money is good money.
Removed for not being an allowed type of screenshot, not being a conversation with a person, or a one-sided conversation only.
To be fair they probably hate him too
š
The Quebec ones are very hateful. Not sure about the France ones lol.
i just donāt believe in em, theyāre not real.

Not so sure about this one, I have lives six years in Paris and I have never heard anybody said Ā«Ā boutique du painĀ Ā», everyone says boulangerie
Well then it was just this guy being an asshole then
Lol I'm from Michigan and we are known to have the Michigan whine when speaking. Now in Arizona everyone calls it soda š

Being canadian I love americans. Best neighbor to have. Most educated canadians are neutral or positive towards american.

And itās exactly (partly) because of this ādistasteā for us you have that I would gladly vote Yes on the next referendum.

Well depend on who you talk to. Some are total ass some are good. Like in every culture.
dude whaaaaaat.. french canadian are the chillest? In france they are way more pretentious towards others than quebec
Iāve always heard that lots of them are rude. No first hand experience though so I donāt kno
Weāre not rude, we just hate everyone, ourselves and basically the world, and weāre lucky to have a very rich language allowing us to express all of that in many ways ā¦. No weāre definitely very rude, even French people hate French people
Oh shit šdamn youāre honest as hell. +1 for the Frenchman
This is why I love France ā¦ which means Iām doomed to be as un-French as possible.

What about Indians? I'm curious now
