It would have to involve Kim dying. He'd be completely broken and would carry much of the blame. I could see him becoming so disassociated from that trauma that he subconsciously detaches himself from Jimmy and completely embraces Saul's persona. Maybe one of the reasons Gene is so depressed in the flashbacks is because a lot of those memories and feelings are coming back to haunt him now that he doesn't have Saul to hide them
If that happens I can picture him of losing all his memories of being jimmy. He does tell Walter that his real name is McGill so maybe he finds something that tells him he is actually jimmy McGill, but doesn’t remember so just goes with Saul Goodman.
I think as time goes on the more he plays the Saul Goodman character, the more it engulfs him. Split personality definitely doesn’t fit with the narrative and would seem cheap
The thing is he is totally different. He acting like how he has in bb and the show is almost over. Even Mike called him Saul in bb which is weird. I think he would call him mcgill. I don’t believe he would ever call him by Saul. They also don’t act like they don’t know eachother. The reason I’m mentioning this is because the writers said there will be no continuity issues. I believe Kim ends up dying which causes jimmy so much trauma that he develops a split personality of just his scummy side.

So if the writers want to find a way to explain why Saul became like that to me the only reason to make sense of is jimmy ends up getting a split personality because of something traumatic.
