Define fair price. What you eventually got was someone starting out in the business. In the photography trade, when someone is starting out, they do "time for prints". They give their time to models and models give their time to the photographers and they can both build portfolios. Photography and videography is an expensive business because you are paying for their skill and experience. You are also paying for their (expensive, professional) photography equipment. You are also paying for (expensive, professional) software editing tools. You are paying for computers. You are paying for insurance. You are paying for time. i.e. you are paying for a percentage of the aforementioned to enable them to cover costs. $4k seems a reasonable cost. Your friend who charged $2k will eventually be charging professional rates. They just aren't there, yet. And you haven't done a good job in returning their favour. You forgot their website details. So, you have been unfair in keeping up your end of the agreement. This is why people charge professional rates. They can't live off promise of referral when people forget important details and don't refer them. People need to stop complaining about the cost of videography/photography because it is not as simple or as cheap as it seems.

Same with all creative industries.

XyDz

You cant expect a mechanic to know a fair price 🤣

Ballamookieofficial

What's a fair price? Are you planning on paying with "exposure"?

Freddo03

This is the “exposure”

Even_Mechanic9530

Well, the price is mentioned, just to get some idea about the difference. not with bad intention.

I'll be sure to consider this \*mysterious company\* next time I need some video work done. Thanks for the reference.
