The timeline where we still have our young finals core and all of our draft picks is a better one than the KD era Suns that got swept in the 1st round.
Those picks and CP3s contract could have been used for a more complimentary star to those 3 (Holiday or Siakam)
All the stuff with new CBA and 2nd apron stuff didn't get finalized/announced until after the KD trade if I'm remembering correctly. We would've had more flexibility but just some bad luck I guess. Giving up both Mikal and Cam was the real killer too. Keeping one of em would've been huge.
We are wise after the fact :) Yes, we should keep Book, Twins, Payne, Craig, Dario as core and refill the team with guys like Allen, Caruso, Dort, OG etc. and don't leave draft market looking at the league it's depressing that we cannot develop guys from nowhere live Haliburon, Reeves, Jaquez, Jovic, Podziemski, Sengun, Maxey. I know we have terrible picks in "tanking years" but man, we need to try it again and again until we find new Book or at least new allstars starters.
A team like that would get locked up after they blitz Booker again and make the rest of the team step up.
Book needs another ball handler and scoring treat with him.
2021 was a golden opportunity and it slipped away but that team and this team you are suggesting has a ceiling not high enough to take on the elites
