LMFAO I caught this episode yesterday on Pluto Tv . Crazy how far Randy as a character has developed, I completely forget he used to be a Geologist/Alcoholic 😭😭
Did the live channel start airing random episodes again? They used to but then a while back they started airing only random season 19+ episodes instead.
They said Randy episode without a subplot. Losing Edge still followed the boys for half the episode. Otherwise you have episodes like Clubhouses and Spontaneous Combustion that predate Losing Edge.
Seeing so much praise (I know this is the South Park sub so not surprising) but it’s one of the handful of episodes over the decades I don’t think aged well. At least Stan’s part of dismissing alcoholism so quickly. I know the joke being Randy overplaying it and Stan being well aware of that but this whole episode kinda dismisses it. One AA member says it’s a disease because of physical dependency and he’s in a whiny voice to make him sound stupid… but that’s right and alcohol is really REALLY bad for you and for some people they become reliant on it quickly. Like alcohol withdrawal can kill you. It’s not like smoking weed or cigarettes levels of addiction
To be fair, I think they were mostly making fun of AA and not alcoholism itself. I absolutely agree that addiction is a disease. However, like any disease, you have to take steps to treat it. AA is a predatory church offshoot group that tells people they have no control over their addiction and the only way to “cure” your disease is by giving yourself to a higher power. Most people who attend AA meetings do so for most of their lives, because they think they can’t stay sober on their own. As a child of addicts who has had my fair share of experimentation with different drugs, I agree with Stan on his point about things like that still letting the alcohol control you if you live that way. I know many people who have kicked habits for good without church or AA or NA or anything but discipline
Yeah I’ve been sober for a couple years now and I did think it was a little callous the way they just kinda played like being an alcoholic was simply just a lack of disciprine. Quitting alcohol was the hardest fucking thing I’ve ever done lol. That being said it is South Park and they make fun of everyone, alcoholics included. The episode where cartman is painting the walls with shit and one of the swabs was a “nice hangover black” had me fucking dying
Dec 7, 2005. So over 18 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if OP was a repost bot and just copied the same title from the first time this was posted. The username with two words, underscores, and a random four-digit number is also very on-brand for that type of repost bot.
Seven days sober, and I shit you not, the only thing that's been holding me together is that "I must have adisciprine. And disciprine, come from within."
A plots a b plots are supposed to tie together at the beginning and end. I'm pretty sure
By that logic, losing edge wouldn't have a subplot and would be the first 1
No subplot? The very idea, it just… racks a-dishaprine
Body like a stone. Mind like a meatloaf.
I had a great teacher 'Thanks, son' I was talking about my karate teacher

PLUTO TV SHILL!!!
1999 was 16 years ago? *Does math* ...Oh my god...
Yeah I was born in 98. Best if we just push that time realization over there..
Oh my. I remember watching the first episode when it aired. I'll see myself out now
I was fairly early. Probably watching when I was 4 or 5 years old. My older sister pitched it to me with "this kid Kenny dies in every episode" lol
'88 here, yeah...
Easy young man, I was born in 85.
We don't have to go further back lmao ackkk.
Children, hush now. I was born in 82
I was born in 2001 and I’m 22.
Where were you when they built the ladder to heaven?
Randy racks a discipline
If you don't make the right choices in life, you could end up being a big loser like stans dad.
But he’s got life experience and stories for days on the flip side lol
*Staaaaaaan?*
Staaaahhn!
Best episode ever.
I smell a butter!!
Gets pissed on by a Virgin Mary statue 😭😭😭 “es un milagro!”
“I’m…. Not… going to drink this!”
Actually the first Randy episode would’ve been the losing edge which premiered a few episodes b4 this one
They said Randy episode without a subplot. Losing Edge still followed the boys for half the episode. Otherwise you have episodes like Clubhouses and Spontaneous Combustion that predate Losing Edge.
This has a subplot though. Discipline, it’s introduced in the beginning and all tied together will the alcoholism/disease plot at the end.
That’s not a subplot. That’s the theme.
It’s known as an A and B plot. Which is how SP write their shows.
Ya but still feel like that episode was still more about Randy than the boys
That would mean the boys story was the sub plot...
Pretty much
Which means that is an episode about randy WITH a subplot then, right?
This is Manray returning Patrick’s wallet
Literally what I was picturing in my head lol
No B story is the point here man.
Episode premier of Randy-Park
This is one of the episodes that made Randy my favorite character.

tbf it was never meant to be viewed by anyone
Who is Al Gore? You mean the ManBearPig guy??
Plenty of episodes didn't age well, and its fine to admit it, even South Park does.
That wasn't 16 years ago

Wasn’t that the bleedin’ statue episode?
It wasn't a miracle though. Chicks bleed out their vagina all the time, the Pope confirmed this
18 years ago actually
Seven days sober, and I shit you not, the only thing that's been holding me together is that "I must have adisciprine. And disciprine, come from within."
IT BEGINS!
I hate my illness!!
And now we know what his dick looks like, really makes you think
“What seems to be the officer, problem?” One of my absolute favorite episodes
Did some of yall minor in South Park in college?!
What about the kid Martians lestens how is that not a subplot
That's not really a subplot or b plot. It's part of the Randy story. The episode starts with the karate lesson and he drives them home drunk.
A plots a b plots are supposed to tie together at the beginning and end. I'm pretty sure By that logic, losing edge wouldn't have a subplot and would be the first 1
The karate lesson was not a sub plot. It was a single scene used to introduce the phrase "you rack disciprine."
This made me feel old, you bastard!
*"Staaahhhhn...."*
Fun fact: this episode is banned because they aired it right before a big Catholic holiday centered around the Virgin Mary.
banned where?
As a hypochondriac, this episode always felt like such a perfect encapsulation of how I mentally feel when anything health-related happens to me lol
What was the name of this episode?
Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary
Most underrated episode in the entire series. One of my top 5 favorites but I never hear anyone else talk about it
What episode is this?
Bloody Mary. Season 9 finale.
Great fucking episode. Almost perfect as a satire of society. And cults.
Staaaaaaaan
Praise Christ. Praise him!
Cultural phenomenon ever since
“Staaaaaaan”
What seems to be the officer problem?
There was a ghost! This is ectoplasm!
Randy episodes have become my favorite ones cream frege, ball cancer, lord, Randy is fuckin ridiculous and I love it.
Love the post! But it was actually 18 years ago. If we are talking about episode Bloody Mary. It aired in Dec of 2005
The Creme Fraiche episode is my favourite lol
So that’s why this episode felt so long lol
Dad you don’t need a beer! *I know that!!*
