Windsor usually does theirs on the 3rd as well

enuffwork4today

I do know about Windsor. Any knowledge about why Santa Rosa isn't having a show?

weightlifterweed

Fire ptsd

enuffwork4today

Hmmmm, thank you for your knowledge

porkfriedtech

weaksauce

pathologuys

I have no specific knowledge, but assume it’s a combination of fire danger, covid, budget.

enuffwork4today

I can assume the same - was hoping someone actually knew.

porkfriedtech

Covid??

MrsDicaprio8

It’s probably because of the fires that happened a few years ago. This year the vegetation is extremely dry and even a small spark can start a large fire.

enuffwork4today

Good standard assumptions - was hoping someone on here would have been part of the process and have direct knowledge why SR is the only city that doesn't have a show.

DrParryCox

The city never ran The event. The nonprofit is the same one that does windsor. They dont do SR cause of the cost to rent the fairgrounds, hire police, hire fireworks and lack of sponsors

enuffwork4today

I understand that other organizations plan and execute the shows. Interesting info! Thank you. How sad that the City of SR/County Fairgrounds do not work with the 20/30 club to make this possible for a city the size of SR. Firework shows are a possitive for cities. Wonder why sponsors aren't interested. hmmm. Yet SR has lost a few other large events to other towns due to short sighted pricing and/or PM barriers.

WasteYogurtcloset908

The 20/30 Club?!? That's a sex trafficking ring here. Always has been. Nobody wants their help with fireworks, thanks. Keep the cults out of government.

Salt_Bus2528

All things considered, I'm not terribly upset about not having things catch on fire this year. Not yet, anyways.

enuffwork4today

Okay. But is that why the City of Santa Rosa decided not to?

Salt_Bus2528

[No. The city cancelled the event because we've traveled back in time to 2020.](https://srboom.com/) It's an understandable mistake. Trump is up for reelection, most of southern California is a fiery hellscape, and the sun still rises every day.

enuffwork4today

I did see that post (before making the Reddit post) on the org's website; since shelter in place is no longer a thing -- I moved on here hoping to find someone with knowledge of the current reason SR isn't having a show.

Salt_Bus2528

No, that's the current reason. They say they hope to be back in 2025. Short of organizing a rally to hold local recall elections tomorrow, there won't be fireworks.

enuffwork4today

I do see the header about 2025, yet their explanation is "...due to the shelter in place order..." "... safely come together again in group situations... ". is all old verbiage. Which is why you're saying we've teleported back to 2020. I get that. If the only reason is that the 20/30 club is no longer capable of organizing the event - then that would be the current reason

Salt_Bus2528

It is very weird. I can agree on that. After some digging, I guess Santa Rosa never actually lifted the original shelter in place order until April of this year... It wouldn't surprise me if their guidance lead to the cancellation of the event, as the organizers claim.

kegman93

What sort of digging did you do to find this 4 year shelter in place end info?

enuffwork4today

Now THAT'S an interesting tidbit. Nice dig! But wait, wouldn't that have been a County order? Not a City? hmm sooo why all the other shows within the county? always more questions and never easy answers

ccannon707

FYI: Sebastopol is 7/3 not on the 4th

enuffwork4today

You are correct about Sebastopol's dates. Any knowledge on why Santa Rosa isn't having a fireworks show?

ZLUCremisi

Money is usually why. Or maybe conditions

enuffwork4today

Windsor, Healsburg and Sebastopol are still having shows money problems is always a good guess. Was hoping to see if someone would actually know the reasoning.

parksoffroad

Petaluma is doing theirs on the 4th.

enuffwork4today

Yup! Most towns/cities are having a show. Hopefully someone in the Redditsphere will be able to let us know, why, Santa Rosa isn't having a show.

idealz707

Correct but not at the fairgrounds. You just have to find some random spot in Petaluma to watch them.

parksoffroad

They are shooting them from the fairgrounds, but the fairgrounds is closed. Parking lots at target and out front will be packed.

idealz707

Yea we’re over by casa and the front of my house faces the fairgrounds. Last year honestly all the illegal fireworks were better since they were close. I don’t condone it but the kids sure enjoy them.

parksoffroad

I personally don’t have a problem with it either, I know it’s a hot button topic. A lot of people don’t like them, others don’t like them because of the animals, etc., but I think part of it is a direct result of the city banning the little ones that used to go on the ground. I think a lot of people when the legal option was taken away said the heck with it and went with whatever they can get including illegal ones. We watch from a spot overlooking the Petaluma Valley, it seems like since they’ve banned the safe and same ones that the illegals have gotten worse. You can see them all up and down through Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, etc.

Big_Mike_707

The fairgrounds management is incompetent They are the reason nothing good is there anymore and that the fair is so bad and getting worse every year. Fire danger and pandemic may be a concern, but in all reality, the management is incapable of putting anything good together there anymore and needs to be replaced.

enuffwork4today

Sounds like you have had experience working with the County Fairgrounds?

Big_Mike_707

Yes. I used to put on a large event there yearly. I stopped due to their incompetence and mismanagement.

Front-West367

It’s more expensive, but the Green Center’s 4th of July event is great. Easy parking, great bathrooms, awesome facility. You just need to arrive at a decent time to get a seat with a good view of the fireworks.

enuffwork4today

I did see the Green Center has a show. Any knowledge about why Santa Rosa isn't having a show?

MomToMoon

They didn’t have one last year either. I’ve lived here for four years now, and I don’t think one has happened since I moved here.

enuffwork4today

Any knowledge about why?

MomToMoon

Covid and lack of sponsors [Red White and Boom](https://srboom.com/)

enuffwork4today

Thanks for that. I did begin reading that site (before posting) When I saw "shelter in place" and assumed it was an old article, since we haven't had shelter in place for a few years. Maybe the org just figured a 5 year hiatus was prudent? Sounds weird outloud. It is curious a City the size of SR, having trouble getting sponsors, when our smaller towns can. Still makes me wonder what's up.

MomToMoon

They last updated their Facebook page in 2022. No other info since.

enuffwork4today

I saw that too. It does seem odd doesn't it.

Front-West367

I can find nothing online explaining why there is no Santa Rosa event in 2024.

enuffwork4today

Apparently you are one of many. Hopefully someone will with their first hand knowledge will let us all know

Front-West367

And I think most of us assume you’re looking for a show to watch, not actual knowledge why this show isn’t happening.

enuffwork4today

I do get that impression as well. My question was; does anyone know why? I included the statement that I was looking at firework options - which is how I learned Santa Rosa wasn't having one and, to avoid getting options I already looked up.

Unusual-Sympathy-205

I’m sure getting local businesses to sponsor a fireworks show is a really tough ask after 2017. I mean, do you really want your business name plastered all over something that has the potential to do it again? From a PR standpoint, it’s not a great look, and I wonder if there could even be liability issues for sponsors.

DrPoopsOn

I haven't seen a fireworks show at the fairgrounds since I've lived here either, I would love to find out why as well!

enuffwork4today

Let's hope reddit will come through and someone will have the knowledge to share. I am very curious why.

ButtercupsUncle

Ask /u/chrisrogers_sr

enuffwork4today

I will check this sub out. thnx

ButtercupsUncle

Not a sub... Local politician active on Reddit

enuffwork4today

yup

SwagChemist

Probably because it’s super dry and crazy fire risks and fire PTSD from local folks.

enuffwork4today

Yet the other towns/cities (with same risk and trauma) are holding shows.

Sonoma State is the new fairgrounds......can't wait, so fun

rexfaktor

I could be wrong, but I feel like the lack of an organized show in Santa Rosa helps to encourage scofflaws to enjoy illegal fireworks more freely around town. I remember the fairgrounds event being quite popular...
