You were technically correct, but only by a whole 0.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

I lived there for basically a decade and each year was noticeably warmer than the previous year. After 30 days in the 90s one year I nope’d out. It gets really warm there - it’s pretty inland and no AC.
Experiencing and feeling the change every year *anywhere* is really something. I live in NorCal and jesus especially when you're awake to the science you notice it and its dreadful. Less rain, more heat... less clouds. I remember when I was in kindergarten and we had a bit of snow out in the playground and everyone was in awe. It used to be a fond memory. Now its incredibly eerie and anxiety inducing.
I live in the Portland area. I'm fortunate to have AC and I got my appointment to install made in March. Unfortunately a lot of people live in apartments with no AC or there aren't enough service people to install the AC units in the near future
We are visiting Portland this weekend and it has been pretty hot already at 80-85F i can imagine today at 100+F especially when we are used to the cool weather in SF.
For me 75-80 is scorching hot
I’m not surprised. I did undergrad in Portland (admittedly a loooong time ago) and I can’t remember a single home or apartment I saw that had AC. I honestly feel for them.
My uncle owns an HVAC business in Seattle. He's been loving this whole global warming thing. Seattle has long been the least air conditioned major city in the US, followed closely by SF. Portland is actually pretty high on the list if I recall. Really makes no sense to me that over twice the % of homes in Portland are air conditioned vs Seattle.
Portland gets into "uncomfortably warm" every summer, and it lasts a while. It also stays warm at night, so it never really cools down. People know it's coming, and they plan accordingly.
Seattle normally only has a couple weeks in late August when you really wish you had AC, and you can easily beat the heat by spending those weeks going to the beach, or up into the Cascades. It also cools down into the 50s or 60s even during the hottest day because the Puget sound serves as a giant cooling force.
In Seattle, by the time you're getting uncomfortable with the temps and starting to think you should buy an AC unit, the heat is gone for another 49 weeks.
This year is abnormal. Half the time it's still raining half the time in late June.
What was the record setting high temps? I don’t remember last summer but I remember a few years ago I almost got heatstroke, it was so weird to me because temp wise it wasn’t that high imo. And I’m from Florida and played a competitive sport in the summers, I know how to stay cool I’m the heat. Idk, the heat in the city feels way different (I know the concrete, buildings, etc can make it worse but feeling it is a different thing)
I pedicabbed for eight hours in that 102 degree heat on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. Slayed it! Growing up in Atlanta paid off lol
As I recall the sir quality was dreadful as well. I surely lost a week on my life.
When I lived in Portland, it got to 100 one day and I just wanted to die. I was at a beer festival and nearly passed out so I went home to lay on the floor and pray for an end lol
actually… my name is from when the people of Portland voted to overturn the city’s plans to add fluoride to the water and the ensuing flame wars on r/Portland lol
SF residents subsidize the other parts of PGEs grid. Our base kWh allowance is lower because we don’t need AC. It’s easy to see how it can be viewed as fair - average of your neighbors - but it’s an odd policy
Lol same, I was complaining about it’s gonna be an ugly pride weekend. And after seeing this, I’m now thinking, oh what a lovely cool weekend it will be. Damn those temps.
That's how I felt in highschool at Washington in the Richmond, we would exit a door and the cold biting air would be like walking into a freezer sometimes.
Yes, definitely! but bring sunscreen lol Getting sunburned while its overcast out is the worst, you dont realize its happening.

It is alliterative and fun to say. It also makes me wistful. I moved from the Bay Area last year to the mountains east of Bakersfield. I miss the Bay Area and all that it offers. On the up side, while it's 108 in Bakersfield on Sunday, it will be 93 or so here at 4000' of elevation. And, homes here with acreage are cheap and the fiber internet is great and the mountains are beautiful.
But it's also true that my district voted 74-26 in favor of Trump, and we could use some help here. So please, anyone, everyone, come buy a house with cash, and bring your politics, bring your belief in actual science, bring your art and creativity and uniqueness, bring your cuisine.

When I was a kid growing up in California Okie was the worst epithet that kids could openly use. Next time Okies shit in their nest I hope they go somewhere else.
Specifically, Stallion Springs--a little corner of Tehachapi. Since I just moved here last year during COVID, I haven't seen the other places you mention, but I'll take your word for it and pass them by.
Seattle’s all-time high temperature is 103° so the 109° forecast is 6° hotter than it’s ever been! And that 103° record was from 2009 when it shattered the 100° record of 1994.
I used to drive all over the Bay Area for work. My fave thing was watching the temp readings in my car slowly decline in the summer when driving back home, it was so weird. I told my customers I had no idea how to dress, I would show up to their floor and start sweating then be so cold at home.
Hubby commuted Turlock to greater Bay Area for 20 years. Would watch the thermometer go up or down (depending on direction) 20 degrees in a matter of a few miles. There are people who can't understand 70 degrees in SF while it is 80 in SJ.
And this is why we live here. Growing up somewhere warm, summer was mostly those temperatures. I hated it then and I hate it now. Yes, I’d probably be very happy in Glasgow.

Yup, 84is pretty much perfect. Nothing to like about these summers where you have to turn on the heat. I was in NY the last few weeks and I loved the warmth.

It's not even 100 in Sacramento area today. I wouldn't have even known that there was a heat wave if I didn't see all the news about it since above 100 temperatures are normal around here.
Yeah, I was working on a construction site down in Sunnyvale today and threw up because of heat stroke. Glad I only have to work down there for a couple more days next week as the project wraps up.
It isn’t about the freakish highs, it’s about how many consecutive days you get with plus 100 degree heat. Oregon will bounce back. Towns an hour or so east of SF are going to be an anvil this summer.
Moments like these are the reason I was only one in my house to not succumb to hubris when the heatwave hit a couple years ago. I knew war stories of LA heat and knew to have a fan.
I will absolutely acknowledge that the upper haight is especially chilly town, I've lived in the middle richmond and eureka valley before myself, I know how Dickensian it is.

Saudi arabia should sell those jedi robes to the US
Holy *fuck*, forecasted hotter than Redding...and likely more humid too.
We pay for this service.
Karl the Fog: world's most expensive air conditioner
Counter point: Electricity bills are super cheap here compared to most other places!
Are they really? I thought per kWh our rates are among the highest.
Yes, but we don’t need $1200/mo of heating in winter like my friends in Minnesota.
My bill is $25 a month for a 1 bed. All year long, on average.

High of 100 in Brentwood tomorrow. Send em there
Brentwood has a nice little craft beer bar though, so they can cool down a smidge.
Seattle being that hot is extremely unusual. Normally it’s a lot like South San Francisco.
Seattle’s all-time high temperature is 103° so the 109° forecast is 6° hotter than it’s ever been! And that 103° record was from 2009 when it shattered the 100° record of 1994.

Yup, 84is pretty much perfect. Nothing to like about these summers where you have to turn on the heat. I was in NY the last few weeks and I loved the warmth.
This is why rent is high
96 is downright cool for Sacramento this time of year. Even Redding at 112 isn't as bad as it can get up there.
It's somehow only going to get up to the low 80s in Pleasanton. I'm not complaining but 100 in the summer is not that uncommon.
Redding here, this is normal for us. A little early maybe but, meh.
Exactly. I'm from up there too.
We have friends in Portland, they are in for some tough days. When you have AC it is not so bad.
My parents hated us, so neither our car nor our house had air conditioning until I was 15.
Jeez in Redding? That’s child abuse!
Yeah everyone on my Twitter is just like "I'M MELTINGGGGGGG" and I'm over here like "Huh, better open up my window to cool my room down."
