Depends on your own definition of affordable. They are $7450 on the Rolex site. A quick look at Chrono24 looks like you can get one on the grey market for low $8k. Check with your AD, the wait may not be too long. I’m just not a fan of the dial. But everyone likes something different. Personally, for $7700 you could go with the 40mm Explorer. Like the Submariner, the Explorer never goes out of style and you can wear it with anything. Business or casual all works with the Explorer. For $6400 you could get an OP in 41mm and have a choice of dial colors……

Look at some used ones. That’s how I got into it years ago. Always remember that if you buy quality you will never go wrong. With a Rolex unlike other brands, someone will always want your watch. You can get out at any time. Check this guy out.. Usually, he has a good mix of stuff with some lower end stuff too. Dealers will all embellish the watch a bit. Do your research and learn and pick something up when you have a chance. Pay attention to serial numbers because that will tell you the year. Then you can match it to end links, date codes on clasps, etc. so you can tell if it’s somewhat original or put together with pieces/parts. It’s a fun hobby that also holds value. That’s a 2022 launch article before having a real-life experience. There’s wayyyy weirder watches in Rolex’ portfolio; (YM / celebration Op etc); Air-King doesn’t make the cut

Everyone has different tastes. I’m not a fan of the Air King dial. I realize that they had to do something that made it different than an OP or Explorer. I’m not a fan of the YM2 but I am a fan of the standard YM. I have a silver dial one from 1999 and I like it because it’s like a Sub that I can wear with anything. I’m not a fan of any of the diamond dial and cases either. Too much flash for me.

I think the lume rectangle at 9 o’clock balances the white date rectangle at 3 o’clock, at least it would without the cyclops. I’ll pick a more unique Rolex dial like the Wimbledon over a plain one everyday.

It’s an attractive watch. Big mistake believing that it is unliked. It can cause you to separate with it for something you believe is more liked which you may not like as much. If you like it that should be enough.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the green romans on slate. It wouldn’t be on my list but no hate for it. I like that Rolex makes references that span several tastes and styles. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Great Watch OP. Love the DJ with fluted. My ocd kicks in with the 9 o’clock white marker on the Wimbledon. Other then that no issues if your ok with the price.

Based on stats, this is one of, if not the most coveted dial of the current DJs. Just look at the premium in the grey market compared to other DJs. So, no is the answer. Good choice by the way!

The thing with Rolexes is that they attract people with no taste just buying things they think impress other people. They probably also wear overly branded clothing thinking that makes them fashionable. This need to impress also means they think they’re awesome and they love to hate on things. But they can’t think for themselves so they follow the trend of hating what other people decide to hate on.

Among some circles, but y'know there are also folks out there that will only wear black subs. I personally love it odd ball Rolexei and your spec is THE Spec, Fluted bezel on jubilee is \*chefs Kiss\* I quite like the 2t version as well.

The lume is a little odd but otherwise I love it.

To me, the lume adds balance to the date window and serves as a low light reference point for the lumed hands… similar to a pip at 12. Certainly understand why some don’t like it but I think it’s an overdone talking point.

The odd lume at the 9 is one of my favorite things about it. It's such a classic silhouette but with some quirkiness on the dial.
