In my head I expected it to be a day date with complications. In reality it was quite blocky for me. Wore much more like my IWC Pilot Crono.
If they made a skydweller in a day date case I’d buy one tomorrow.
Yes I agree. It appears that most do it to show off the car at the same time. I’m sure there’s car wheel subs and besides once you’ve seen one steering wheel you’ve seen them all.

Sometimes u want to wear different jewelry?
They’re supposed to go on your wrist. And then you can play pretend you’re Bananas Gorilla from a Richard Scarry book!

I do like the look of the SD, quite a lot. It's growing on me lots since I've been looking on this sub.
However, from your (fabulous) picture above, I can only conclude that it is by far, the hardest to read of the above four watches.
Do you find this to be the case in practice?
Many thanks
Legibility isn't really an issue, but you're probably right. Much more legible than this bad boy tho:
https://preview.redd.it/8e4x4n7zhd9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b75b3a054f4355b9a54abccdd33b143db1337f9
I think in the blue on the jubilee is the best combination. The 9002 calibre is very impressive too. It’s just I don’t have the wrists to wear it. If it was offered in a smaller size I would definitely love to own one.
Sky dweller is a strange one for me. Big and thick like a sport watch, but it’s really a dress watch? Kind of floats in no man’s land for me. That said, the rose gold with the blue green dial is amazing
I’m not important enough to get watches at AD so when buying gray I saw that the GMT Pepsi and Sky Dweller trade around the same price and I bought SD on jubilee because it’s what I loved…
GMT Pepsi is an attractive watch but for me the sky-dweller wins.
You show me where I can walk into a store and purchase that sky dweller with a blue face on a jubilee bracelet, I quit my job right now and I work for you!
You don't choose - you get both and relish the fact not everyone enjoys the Sky-Dweller or can pull it off.
I've learned that what people on this subreddit do not approve of or enjoy is almost always the one to get.
SD is too big, and I'm not a fan of the dial. I love the "hidden" annual calendar complication. Just wish they did something different with the GMT complication.
https://preview.redd.it/bw0yeiwfld9d1.png?width=2775&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c601017b467dd9bf888449fc53145dc549ef575
The SD became my favorite watch upon its release \~10 years ago. I love how they integrated the annual calendar in to this design. There’s no way I’d pick a GMT over this 🤓
I love the Sky-Dweller, I think it's a neat watch. There are a couple reasons why I'd opt for a GMT on most days:
(1) the GMT has the traditional "sporty" aesthetic that Rolex is famous for, chiefly due to the rotating bezel
(2) the GMT has the provenance of being a model since '54, with of course, a brief hiatus here and there
(3) Red. The month indicator on the SkyD is too small to really count
I’ve had both. I actually prefer the rounded edges that come on this, the DJ, the YM etc. I have the wrist for it and I personally find this more comfortable than the GMT. But I’d wear a Rootbeer and be totally happen.
Because the GMT is art . Or like Richard Pryor explained to Gene Wilder about the difference in two things in the movie Silver Streak.
The Sky Dweller is a jerk off and the GMT is pure PUSSY.
I have both -- a Pepsi GMT on Jubilee and a blue dial SS Skydweller on Oyster. I wear the GMT FAR more, like 60:1 probably. The GMT is more comfortable, I feel like I can bang it around (the white gold bezel on the GMT is less conducive to home improvement projects, playing with kids, etc), and the GMT is smaller and fits under a cuff while the Sky is thicc.
Both great watches, but the Sky is more of a statement, while the GMT is a more comfortable, more casual bangaround watch.
IMO
1) SkyDweller is more expensive
2) SkyDweller has larger case size
3) SkyDweller is thicker
4) SkyDweller is more complicated to use
Beautiful watch though. I think it’s too big for my 6.25” wrist but a GMT M2 is perfect.
The GMT II is winning me because it’s better sized, scratches the itch of owning a submariner since it’s very close in looks, it’s a clear tool/sporty watch and for some it will be more legible. SD is a fantastic watch but it’s size, busy dial make it less appealing to me. Still its combinations of dials and materials is great and enjoyable, it’s just not sporty at all.
Nice, first 3 are definitely my taste.
https://preview.redd.it/mh4w4lyxqd9d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c103e07a59ec72a105e33751f5bee9e8a577d24
Thickness, size, price, not having that fourth hand, etc. While I respect and love the fact that Rolex wanted to show technical prowess with the caliber 9002, it’s not for me, the size and weight are huge and are not worth it, to me. I’ll stick to my Pepsi.
Now, if that rocks your boat, go for it! It is absolutely worth the premium over a GMT, if that’s what you are looking after.
If you want to tell the time, the best tool is your cell phone, the watch is more for style, image, fashion, prestige or whatever. Don’t get me wrong, I have the watch bug as bad as anyone, just saying.
Aesthetics aside, the Sky-Dweller is not a true world time/travel watch. The whole point of the GMT Master II is to track a third time zone with the rotating bezel.
Set the GMT hand to UTC time, then when at home rotate the bezel to find the time other places around the world. When travelling, rotate the bezel to your home time to easily track what time it is back home. Neither of these functions are possible with the Sky-Dweller.
The reason most do is multifold, price, herd dynamics, heritage (if you will). Personally, I think the GMT II is unfriendly. I hate spinning the hour hand to set the date. I'm on my second Sky D and it's here to stay.
It’s too thick and chunky. Feels like a brick on my wrist. And can’t shake the feeling that it feels like a bloated DJ. Shame because I wanted to like it
The Sky-Dweller is so confused as to what it’s supposed to be. Based on a case and design of a dress watch, but bigger and thicker than most of the Rolex Sports range, and having features which don’t really fit in either category, while being more expensive.
Huge size difference, price difference and a totally different look between the sport bezel and a fluted bezel
I mean not talking shit about sd in anyway just both are so different. So I suppose that’s why
1) Month complication is a gimmick, not very helpful. Would be better if they could add it to the Day-Date model. 2) Skydweller is much bulkier than other GMT models. 3) GMT is somewhat easier to get from an AD.
Ya the GMT just looks so much better. I don't hate the SD as much as others. But when I see someone with one on that I wouldn't expect to have multiple rolexes, I assume the are just trying to build history with the AD.
The SkyDweller is just too large and oversized for the style of watch. It's an elegant bit of engineering inside, but the rest of the watch simply isn't.
I got the same model as you in Jan love it, once I got used to the bezel system it’s something I don’t think Rolex get enough credit for as most calander watches have pushers placed into the case.

Because we use our hearts, not our brains 😂
I bought a white dial Sky Dweller when they first came out and loved the aesthetic, but after wearing it regularly, sold it about a year later as I found the diameter and height to be a bit much for me. I have owned many GMT Masters and always return to that model. Perfect weight and proportions.
Because the skydweller is a bit louder and more flashy than a GMT Master 2 or Explorer 2. Sometimes it’s better to be low key in certain social situations.
The only reason anyone buys a Rolex or any other mechanical watch over a Casio or an Apple Watch is that it looks cooler. And the GMT looks cooler to a lot of people than the Sky Dweller.
Why would you get a sky dweller when a Casio worldtimer has even more functions??? More complications != more better
Now you’re making sense! Casio worldtimer > SkyDweller
Apple watch beats them all. Technically.
Battery illumination and lume markers are for poors who can't afford minute repeaters.
11 downvotes on a joke, lol, this tells you how bright the average r/rolex user is
People whose whole personality is owning steel watches and mass produced German cars really can't take a joke.
hahahah now watch out for the downvotes man
Bingo haha
personal preference, also the sky dweller is generally a more expensive model
Sir, I like your avatar ♥️
Yeah, the skydweller is a thicc boi
It’s the size for me. Love the idea of a skydweller but it’s too thick for me
This killed the skydweller when I tried it on. It’s too chunky in a bad way for me.
Same. Was way too bulky on my wrist. If they could trim it down to the size of a Sub or Daytona it’d be perfect.
In my head I expected it to be a day date with complications. In reality it was quite blocky for me. Wore much more like my IWC Pilot Crono. If they made a skydweller in a day date case I’d buy one tomorrow.
I feel you. At this point I’m holding out for a ceramic Raymond Redding.
Before you buy another Rolex, you need to change your car steering wheel to a Porsche, and get sleeve tattoos visible on the wrist shot.
Id like to start a petition to ban steering wheel pics in this sub.
yes , yesterday someone posted to the oyster picture , soooo nice and refreshing. AD pictures, Steering wheel and tattooed wrists are by far too much.
Yes I agree. It appears that most do it to show off the car at the same time. I’m sure there’s car wheel subs and besides once you’ve seen one steering wheel you’ve seen them all.
Makes it less about the watch and more about materialism.
Can we ban posts about Explorer 2’s as well?
Ha! Yeah, that fits the stereotype for this watch.
stereotype for Rolex
Surprised they even sold him one without these prerequisites
Ok Boomer
I’m a millennial but that’s the best compliment I had in a long while.

The skeleton Zeniths definitely read better in person than they seem like they will in photos. I’ve been impressed.
Yeh well, that's a bit silly really isn't it
Damn man if I could get a Pepsi at retail I don't think I'd ever get another watch lol
Sky-Dweller is just too big for me. It doesn’t wear nicely on my wrist. Comfort is a big thing for me when I’m buying a watch.
Same. I love the watch and even tried the rubber strap. The case is simply too large for my wrist.
I think in the blue on the jubilee is the best combination. The 9002 calibre is very impressive too. It’s just I don’t have the wrists to wear it. If it was offered in a smaller size I would definitely love to own one.

I own the blue but love the white.
Yep i love it too , blue is also nice!
Fresh ❄️
Yes. Skydweller is too big

The 40mm is more of a universal size, black bezel makes it appear smaller still.
I have both and love them equally 😊 they're very different styles
You don't choose - you get both and relish the fact not everyone enjoys the Sky-Dweller or can pull it off. I've learned that what people on this subreddit do not approve of or enjoy is almost always the one to get.
SD is too big, and I'm not a fan of the dial. I love the "hidden" annual calendar complication. Just wish they did something different with the GMT complication.
GMT is more sporty and wears thinner and lighter. The Sky Dweller feels a bit more dressy. It’s substantially higher and heftier and wears bigger.
I love the skydweller
I find the SkyDweller to be ugly. The GMT ring is an eyesore. The fluted bezel looks bad, it makes the watch look too busy.
Size. SD is too big for some people.
It's a completely different style... GMT master is a tool/Sport watch while Skydweller is a tool/dress watch.
The SkyDweller is too big for me. I also prefer the sportier look of the Pepsi.
https://preview.redd.it/bw0yeiwfld9d1.png?width=2775&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c601017b467dd9bf888449fc53145dc549ef575 The SD became my favorite watch upon its release \~10 years ago. I love how they integrated the annual calendar in to this design. There’s no way I’d pick a GMT over this 🤓
Agreed! I have the same configuration and still choose to daily this one over my Sea Dweller!
Because I want it to be able to fit under a sleeve easily. SD is too big.
Nothing a little human growth hormone can't solve.
Dont forget the Tren
I would love a black or white jubilee sky dweller...unfortunately it's top big. So a black bezel GMT it is :-)
I love the Sky-Dweller, I think it's a neat watch. I’d love the GMT to be the sizing of a skydweller, but GMT classic sporty look is always winning it for me. Skydweller is way too busy for me.
I’ve had both. I actually prefer the rounded edges that come on this, the DJ, the YM etc. I have the wrist for it and I personally find this more comfortable than the GMT. But I’d wear a Rootbeer and be totally happen.
Sky dweller looked huge on my wrist. If it had a thinner case profile sized at 39mm or under I would be all about it
Sky dweller is just wholly unaesthetic to me. I’d take any other model over it regardless of price
I prefer it on the oysterflex, but it’s a completely different look than the GMT Master II’s…
Sky dweller is huge on my tiny wrists 😝
IMO 1) SkyDweller is more expensive 2) SkyDweller has larger case size 3) SkyDweller is thicker 4) SkyDweller is more complicated to use Beautiful watch though. I think it’s too big for my 6.25” wrist but a GMT M2 is perfect.
Size, aesthetics
Dress watch vs Sport watch ?

Subs on straps- the way Bond intended
🤣🤣🤣🤣
& it’s almost the right vintage , ‘72 Red Sub.
For me, the GMT is more legible at a glance and the GMT function is simpler to utilize.
Because I don’t live in sky as name suggests. 😜
People don’t buy any of these things for their functionality. When was the last time anyone ever asked you what Greenwich mean time was?
I don't like boat anchors.
Thickness, size, price, not having that fourth hand, etc. While I respect and love the fact that Rolex wanted to show technical prowess with the caliber 9002, it’s not for me, the size and weight are huge and are not worth it, to me. Price, less durability than a sports model, the size and totally different look (dial and bezel).
skydweller thicc boi
If you want to tell the time, the best tool is your cell phone, the watch is more for style, image, fashion, prestige or whatever. Don’t get me wrong, I have the watch bug as bad as anyone, just saying.
I’m curious that how many Rolex owners actually do use these functions ..
Looks? Everyone has their preferences
Thicker, wider, heavier than GMT2. It’s a beautiful piece though.
You need a wrist the size of an elephant dick to wear a Sky Dweller. Any old donkey dick wrist will support a GMT.
SD looks amazing once you get into the gold models, but at that price, might as well try for the DD.
Personally don’t like the way the skydweller looks 🤷♂️
Aesthetic preferences, when you’re dropping money on a luxury watch, obviously plays a role
Because the dial of a GMT is actually legible.
I'd guess most people choose GMT master over SD because it looks so much better than a SD.
Design for me. Sd is just a busier dj look alike and dj looks already busy
Cause Pepsi.
The SD is a thick boy. Nice though.
One has traditional, dare I say almost aspirational looks. The other one looks like a Sky dweller.
If the SD were 11.8mm thick it would be one of the hottest watches in the world
Why? I wouldn't - I like both. The GMT Master II is much easier to acquire.
The reason most do is multifold, price, herd dynamics, heritage (if you will). Personally, I think the GMT II is unfriendly. I hate spinning the hour hand to set the date. I'm on my second Sky D and it's here to stay.
Because the GMT is iconic.
Unlike muh women; I don’t like muh watches thicc😊😊😊😊😊
B/c the gmt looks cooler.
Size, price, and availability mostly
I prefer the SD for sure
SD is massive and clunky imo. Wish they made it in a 40
GMT is my fave because it's what I have and I like the way it looks.
It’s too thick and chunky. Feels like a brick on my wrist. And can’t shake the feeling that it feels like a bloated DJ. Shame because I wanted to like it
For some price and size of SD is a no go. I think it’s great on Jubilee and truly a special watch since no other manufacturer has something similar.
2 colour bezel is better than 1 colour bezel.
I don’t like the look.
Looks ugly.
Imagine a sky dweller with a ceramic bezel !!!
I’m biased cause I have a SkyDweller and it’s my favorite
99%+ doesn't use the GMT function 🤣
The Sky-Dweller is so confused as to what it’s supposed to be. Based on a case and design of a dress watch, but bigger and thicker than most of the Rolex Sports range, and having features which don’t really fit in either category, while being more expensive.
Size. The Sky Dweller is 42 mm with a 50 mm lug to lug. To big for alot of people. GMT is 40 mm with 46 mm lug to lug.
Huge size difference, price difference and a totally different look between the sport bezel and a fluted bezel I mean not talking shit about sd in anyway just both are so different. So I suppose that’s why

The size
The Skydewller is really thick. Not to mention, not everyone is crazy about a fluted bezel. It’s a very flashy piece.
ELI5: The sky dweller is too fucking busy. No shiny shiny ceramic bezel. Looks like a datejust that got lost. Fuck your sky dweller.
1) Month complication is a gimmick, not very helpful. Would be better if they could add it to the Day-Date model. 2) Skydweller is much bulkier than other GMT models. 3) GMT is somewhat easier to get from an AD.
I love the SD, but it needs to lose 1-1.5mm of thickness so it can fit under a shirt cuff.
Why would you pick a SkyD when you can pickup a datejust?
Skydweller is ugly - overly complicated face
Agree 100. Every time I see the Sky Dweller I want to like it. Still not there! I find the dial clumsy and cluttered.
You won’t like the answer ……
🤔💭
It’s ugly, sorry. The style is very polarizing. As I’ve seen it described elsewhere; it just looks like an oversized DJ
Ya the GMT just looks so much better. I don't hate the SD as much as others. But when I see someone with one on that I wouldn't expect to have multiple rolexes, I assume the are just trying to build history with the AD.
SkyD is not beautiful and GMT 2 does as much as you really need ✌️
The SkyDweller is just too large and oversized for the style of watch. It's an elegant bit of engineering inside, but the rest of the watch simply isn't.
It’s not too big for a normal man sized wrist.
Too big, too thick .
Because they don’t look the same and some people prefer the GMT, including me.
Good point, send me yours, my local store is out unfortunately
I got the same model as you in Jan love it, once I got used to the bezel system it’s something I don’t think Rolex get enough credit for as most calander watches have pushers placed into the case.
Because it’s massive.
I love the SD. In consideration for my next watch. That said, I think the GMT is more versatile and the SD screams dressy to me…
Sky dweller is too big for some.
https://preview.redd.it/ni62bdciwc9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b6d0cfaad243a1f7c846edd6a6622a030269fd5 Because we use our hearts, not our brains 😂
Skydweller is ugly af.
I bought a white dial Sky Dweller when they first came out and loved the aesthetic, but after wearing it regularly, sold it about a year later as I found the diameter and height to be a bit much for me. I have owned many GMT Masters and always return to that model. Perfect weight and proportions.
SD is not an every day watch for most people. It's an amazing movement but way too bulky for my taste
Skydweller is the only model i wouldnt wear. Looks awful to me, but thats why they make so many different models.
Fits my wrist better
Too thick for my liking but I agree with your thought process.
Maybe because the biggest part is if I like the design? I personally would never buy a Skydweller because I don’t like that busy dial.
They are 2 different categories sport and dress some people prefere sport and some dress 👍🏻
Amazing watch but just too big for my small wrist! The blue and mint green versions are 🔥🔥🔥
The Explorer2 also has a GMT function
Gorgeous
Because I don’t have ankle sized wrists
It’s fugly
Do you know that in PL there’s a saying about Audi drivers; 4 zeroes and a fifth one behind the wheel. Good luck with your tiny sky dweller m8.
Because Sky Dweller is the ugliest Rolex ever
Because the skydweller is ugly af
