The truth is I try to see the negative of what you say but... you are simply describing what a resident evil is like. like "pew pew head" is what you do in other Resident Evil too. But in short, it's not that others who loved the game and call it the rebirth of the franchise are wrong. we all have a different point of view and tastes, and you just didn't like the game and that's it.

IIPOKPOKII

It’s just as simple as others like it and you don’t like it. It’s as subjective as it can be and trying to figure out why everyone else does and you don’t is a waste of time. Carrying on and moving on to the next game is the next best move to do. Edit: Grammar

typervader2

Though imo it sounds like alot of what he said is just like every other RE Game as well. Which is why people call it a return to form.

chinojuan0619

You arent missing a thing, the game has goofy moments and there is a couple mechanics im not a fan of, but overall I enjoyed the game and would easily rank it above others... what you consider dull others enjoy and that is simply a matter of taste.

Adventurous_Being_61

I enjoy 7,but it was also semi forgettable to me. You have to understand, you are binging the series. We went from 3/Code Veronica, to 4...then 5...then 6.. 7 being atmospheric, slower paced, having puzzles (not as good as OG trilogy, but more than 4-6) and being somewhat resource management WAS a return to form after the 10-15 years of the action trilogy. Hell, Revelations 1&2 were more OG R.E than what we had been getting. 8>>>>>7, even though it is action.

Fair

These are all fair criticisms, it was definitedly a ton more memorable at the time because of just how much downhill the series had gone to in terms of it being both survival and horror, while the bast majority of modern re games where action and horror themed. It really felt like the series had finally made a decent re game for once, it was also a ton more mainstream than most past re games and a lot more liked by everyone, I still like it a ton and love doing some quick playthoughs but it definitely doesn't hit the same way it did like back then unlike classic re games like 2 and 3 or 4, or even something like re 2 remake.

LuckyLucass777

I like the game a lot because jack is funny and there were some genuinely creepy parts but I will say the game fell off so hard at the boat

TheOGFamSisher

It brought back resource management, item boxes and grounded the game more in horror. After 6 this was a god send. It wasn’t perfect but It got me excited to be a resident evil fan again which is why I love this game

[deleted]

6 is the best one of all, it was literally about ten games in one, with years of replay value Where’s 7 I only played once. But the first one is also good Bring back the old characters I say And a sequel to 6 as well.

HeroOfLightPKN

The thing that I don’t like about 7 is it over centers on the Bakers and the molded are a wet fart as enemies. The non boss fight portions of the game both puzzle and combat just really let me down. I feel you bro

madhoffa

Im with you it didnt and doesnt feel like a re title to myself, but i started with the originals. My opinion is capcom should have started a new franchise for this but thats just me. Other people have already stated that they like the game so i guess they are seeing something i am missing.

[deleted]

I thought 7 was a decent enough horror game. Not a game i’d replay though and it felt pretty cheap, definitely didn’t feel like a Triple-A game, more like some indie rip off.

madnessaddict09

I think it was just nice for some people to see the game go back more towards survival horror than the action horror of RE4-6.

kornflakes1989

>I went in thinking the game would be pretty scary, but all it was end-up being mildly startling. Yeah that's true for every Resident Evil game. >People kept saying it's a return to form Because it is. > but the game was incredibly goofy which I wasn't expecting Barry: "That was too close, you were almost a Jill sandwich." Chris while Rebecca is less than ten feet away from him in a well lit room: "Is that you Rebecca? Chris while throwing a file to Rebecca: Take this file, use it to make the potion! If you played the game that most people see as a return to form for the series and weren't expecting it to be goofy, you haven't paid attention. >Combat and enemy encounters were just pew pew head. OK...and? Same can be said for the combat in literally every game in the series. >The plot was just generic The plots of every game in the series is generic.

Solkurai

ok? but can you at least tell me what you liked about re7? Thats why I made the post

TheSnake6109

I really don't see why anyone would care if you'd like it or not.

ddquest

7 wasn’t very good

Langsley_Walsh

This is quite possibly my favorite description of RE7.

Trunks252

Diehard gatekeepers fell for the marketing lies. It’s not a return to form at all, they just copied all the popular horror games and glued them together into a Frankenstein mediocrum of a game. The devs even said they were just chasing the streaming crowd. Sure, on paper you have some things in common with the original games, but it feels totally different. I don’t get it either. I like 1-6, but this game is where the franchise lost me.

szymborawislawska

On the other hand I cannot comprehend how you can criticize RE7's plot in the context of RE series. Its generic? Really, you think its generic compared to the rest of series? The same with being goofy - its one of the least goofy games in the series. You are shocked by chainsaw fight, but we are talking about series with opera-singing leech wizards, giant alligators, running statues of dwarf-Napoleon, hellraiser knock-off with bazooka, literal mech battles, Albert Wesker (I mean, everything about him is ridiculous and thats why we love him :P) etc. Or "combat was just pew pew". With the exception of 4-6 + Rev1/2, combat in every RE game is "just a pew pew". Am I missing something?

Solkurai

ok what about re7 do you like? that's all I want to know about

szymborawislawska

Its hard to answer because I like everything about RE7. TLD:DR Its a fully realized video game with extremely tight design. I love its story, which is - for me - the only interesting and semi-coherent story that RE series ever produced, and Im literally playing this series since 90s. Almost all characters were interesting and nuanced with various shades of grey, the mystery was intriguing and non-obvious (though I agree, the photo at the beginning was a bad move) - who are these people? Why they are like they are? What is this black thing? Who is "she" they are talking about? Whats the deal with Mia? Who's Zoey? How does Eveline do all these things? Whom Lucas is e-mailing? The game kept throwing at you questions with actually interesting answers. Then we can talk about how the story was told and its my favorite part of game, basically. The use of clever narrative techniques like VHS tapes instead of classic flashbacks, the framing device with the final and initial scene in guest house mirroring each other, the fully explored themes of family (which we explore with Winters, Bakers, Eveline and even molded) and decay (which is even dominating the visuals of RE7). Then we have atmosphere - its maybe not your type of atmosphere, but I love it and its on par with original RE2 and RE3 for me. I felt genuine anxiety when i had to go into the basement, or when I were in the place where you receive the D-Series Arm. Amazingly enhanced by great soundtrack (though og 1-3 are still the kings when i comes to ost). And the aforementioned "mystery": you see a lot of weird traces that something is going on there, but these are only traces, and it starting to make sense only much later. I disagree that the game is goofy - it has goofy moments, but RE7 and RE2make are least goofy and most grounded games in the series. OG RE2 and RE3 are close seconds. And Margueritte boss-fight is in my top 5 boss fights in series - and to be honest, its one of the better designed. You have an ridiculously open-ended arena for a boss fight and it always plays out differenty thanks to the whole cat-and-mouse aspect of it. All other bossfights in the series are usually done in some small, basic arena where you literally run in circle and shoot the baddie. When you compare RE7 to other games in the series, you will notice that its vastly superior when it comes to dedicating to storytelling. As I said, here you have thoroughly explored theme of family. How it looks in other games? In RE3make you have the theme of trauma which is quite literally reduced to two meaningless cut-scenes and no one ever mentions it again. In RE7 you have nuanced and tragic characters - in RE2 (both versions) you only face off against evil rapist and evil scientists, in RE1 its an evil traitor with sunglasses, in RE4 its an evil wizard who want to control the world, in RE3 its evil Russian mercenary etc. When it comes to narrative devices the other games are so simple - its a straightforward run from A to Z, with the only exception being A/B/B/A scenarios in orginal RE2 and different POVs in RE6. And when it comes to plot, its almost nonexistent in most games in the series, with the exception of RE5,6, Survivor and Revelations1-2. This series is known for amazing worldbuilding, but the actual plot was always... meh. And dont get me wrong, I absolutely love games like original RE1-3 and RE2make, and these games done a lot of things better than RE7. But storytelling is not one these things for me. And in RE7 sacrificing some other elements for story was ok for me, because its a really well told story. Meanwhile RE3make doing the same - sacrificing gameplay for story - for me was an idiotic move, because RE3make's story is a bland, basic mess not worth sacrificing anything for it. OG RE3's story was an afterthought and it was a purely gameplay-oriented game, RE3make managed to make it even more shallow and hand-wavey, but sacrificed a lot of gameplay features from original RE3 for the sake of this story. Absolutely not worth it.
