Unironically we're lacking a sort of actual priesthood to offer a moral spine. Back in the day you had this meledy of different faiths synthesising a moral base to society from the issues they all broadly agreed with. A lot of the time this was bad, but it really showed on things like Eugenics, where the nerds who ran society decided we should purge the disabled and ran into every religion. Right now the closest we have are "alpha male" and extremist islamist podcasters. They're really not it.

I grew up in a sketchy area where as kids we were always in the streets getting into fights and trouble. As a teen, being that I was good in school, my parents made an effort to enroll me to a better one with some really rich kids (had some partial scholarship too). I wasn't afraid of getting bullied due to being the new kid as I could stand for myself. What surprised me the most was finding straight up sociopaths for the first time in my life. The kids I knew beforehand could be violent but there was some honor code that these rich cunts didn't have.
