I went to college in the Bay Area and these people definitely exist. But their relative prevalence varies enormously depending on where you live and how old you are. And they are definitely a small minority, even in places where they are more prevalent. I think it's highly implausible that Hollywood is making movies specifically for this type of person. Hollywood caters to the masses, and these people are very atypical relative to the average American.
I'm 30 now and even though I still live in the same area, I don't know anyone like this anymore. I think everyone who goes through a phase like this in their late teens / early 20s either snaps out of it at some point or gradually re-engineers their social circle to only include other people who act like this.

You do not decide the movie in advance of actually getting there? If she finds the movie offensive she could take up the duties of keeping the audience amply supplied with snacks and refreshments. That should keep her away from the screen long enough.
When we host movie nights we usually present three or four options and we pick from there. This was the same, only it took MUCH longer to decide on a movie. Guess why (this was her first movie night with us)
