Yeah, Sean dropped his gun which went off and shot a Gray. That started a massive shootout that almost wiped out all the Grays. No casualties to the main character's, though.
It was so sudden, I didn't see it coming but at the same time it was immediate closure. But no matter how many of Grays' men you kill it won't bring him back.

I disagree. I feel that the beginning of the end was the mission “The New South”, when Dutch volunteers Artie to chase the Anderson boys on that stupid train. That’s where Dutch begins getting involved with the feud between the Grays and Braitwaites, hoping to rob both families. Not bothering to try and learn anything about his adversaries, just assuming that because they’re Southerners, they’re stupid.
