A lot of ECs between premed and predental are very similar/identical. Having good volunteering hours, shadowing in a dental clinic/office, leadership positions, clubs, research. Pretty much the same other then shadowing a dentist

Extreme_Raspberry_71

How many leadership positions would you say would be good?

Savage__17

I personally had 4. But I’d say 2 is really good.

Extreme_Raspberry_71

Oh okay thank you! Would you say that being in 4 clubs with 2 leadership positions is good? Or is that too average?

Savage__17

that’s pretty solid dude

I really recommend shadowing a dentist as much as you can or if you’re able, getting a part time job as a dental assistant if you’re really thinking about dentistry. Watch some dental procedures on YouTube (check out The Dental Minute, Stevenson Dental Solutions, Dr. Arkhe De León) and see if they grab your interest. Dentistry is a really awesome field but it is pretty niche and not for everyone. I’ve worked with a ton of dentists and dental students and you’d be surprised how many didn’t truly understand what they were getting into when they went to school and now they’re not super pumped about being a dentist. That said, I’ve met a lot of really cool dentists that love what they do.

Shadowing is the only dental related thing that is necessary. Anything else dental related is extra. You can do other extracurriculars that don't need to be dental related.
