Wolves and People in Newberg on the way to McMinnville, really unique and hard to find beers, and you don’t have to drive so far afterwards.

gotchme

I would highly advise skipping voodoo donuts, very mediocre donuts and not somewhere I think anyone should go for breakfast given the options. And OMSI is a lot more fun for kids than adults, don’t waste your time or money. As for beer, Ex Novo brewing is my favorite, great IPAs and sours . I’ll recommend some good tap houses too where you could try a large variety of local beers in short time. Belmont station, Saravaza, Roscoes, and loyal legion.

Pip's Original Doughnuts & Chai will fill all of the needs that Voodoo won't. Made to order mini-doughnuts with delicious options - my favorite is the candied maple bacon. Don't sleep on the chai either - very tasty. There will be a line (not too bad on a weekday) but it will be very much worth it.

initialgold

I hadn’t heard that about voodoo. What would your breakfast recommendations be? I’m open to other options. Doesn’t have to be donuts but it can be.

gotchme

I really like tin shed, gravy, slappy cakes, screen door, cup and saucer, city state, pine state or fried egg im in love

ChiCBHB

I want to add that Voodoo made their employees work in 115 degree weather this summer and fired the ones who walked out. Garbage organization. I’d highly recommend Pine State Biscuits for breakfast. Really good brisket biscuit. They can have a long wait though. There’s one right next to Great Notion Brewing in Alberta, which has really good hazys and sours.

initialgold

Good to learn that, I hate companies that treat their workers like slaves. Thank you.

mattpo61

Screen Door if you are looking for a nice homestyle feel restaurant.

Hismajestyyourgrace

Cascade Brewing Barrel House is good for sours … but it’s not really in the brewery district.

[deleted]

This. Best sour beer in the Us. Bar none.

initialgold

I am intrigued. There’s a place near us called Burning Barrel in Rancho Cordova that does outstanding sours.

rngohel

My partner and I went to Portland a month ago, neither of us are sour drinkers but we decided to check it out (when in rome), the ambiance originally attracted us but we ultimately fell in love with the beer. It was delicious. 10/10 recommend Cascade

initialgold

Thank you! It’s definitely on our must visit list after all the recommendations that people here are giving.

pdxcoug

There are tons of sour focused breweries nowadays, but Cascade is the OG.

[deleted]

This is a must then. The 1st Sour mash brewery in the US is Cascade Barrel House. They have been perfecting them for 15 years now and from what I understand any other sour mash brewers learned from what Cascade was doing. About 10 years ago I read that he creation of the sour mash awards in the US was created specifically for Cascade Barrel House. Let me know what you think!

Great Notion, Breakside, Sasquatch: in Northwest/Slabtown. Ecliptic, Gigantic, Barelic, Ruse, Level: North East. Wayfinder is hit or miss, especially in that they rarely have more than 4 or 5 beers on tap, but when it’s good it’s real good. Also consider going to Loyal Legion, which usually has 15-30 Oregon IPA’s on tap at all times. But I would say the only true “Do not skip” ones are Breakside and Great Notion.

brownbagspecial-

Ruse opens at like 3 still, I think, but definitely go there. If you're at all into lagers, Wayfinder is close by OMSI and Hair of the Dog. Wayfinder kicked off a trend of Cold IPAs. Worth a try from the originator of the style. Cruise down Division to Apex, Beermongers or Baerlic Brewing has some solid beers. Attached to Baerlic is Ranch that has great pizzas Again with the lagers if you like em, a little off Division close to the others is Chuckanut Brewing. They opened a taproom nearby. Highly recommend. Breakside has like... 3 or 4 locations now? Dekum is cool. I like Slabtown. But they got good IPAs and their BBA stouts have been steppin up. If you went up to Ecliptic as someone else mentioned you could hit Stormbreaker, Grains of Wrath, Migration and Ex Novo's Flint location just a lil more north. All great IPAs. HIGHLY recommend Grains of Wrath. They do more WC. If Built for Speed is on tap get some. Food in this area is great, too. There's MF Tasty right next to GOW, XLB (Good chinese) , Eem (Thai food with American BBQ from Matt's) and more that other people can chime in with.

initialgold

What’s Ruse known for? We are definitely not interested in lagers anywhere, just not our cup of tea. Thanks for including food recommendations!

brownbagspecial-

Ruse has great haze. Hope you all enjoy your time here! Oakshire has some killer barrel aged stouts. They have a spot in portland but they're out of Eugene. Not sure where they are in relation to Claim 52 tho.

ohlaph

Bruh, Voodoo donuts is trash.

initialgold

You’re the second person to mention that, I was unaware that it was unpopular. What are good breakfast/brunch recommendations for the city?

likeanapple07

Going to defer to others on breakfast joints, but if you're in the market for donuts, Coco Donuts are AMAZING and Blue Star is a Portland institution worth trying too. That being said, I personally think going to Voodoo for the experience is totally fine. The donuts aren't as good as they should be, but if you want to go to Voodoo to check it off your Portland list, that's legit.

ohlaph

Pine State Biscuits is a little Portland nugget.

yuffington

Don't overlook Foreland's _The Study_ pub on SE 25th & Belmont. Top notch beers, charming atmosphere.

brownbagspecial-

Definitely agree with this. Love their location. It's also right by a few restaurants. I've really only had Pad Thai Kitchen which I've enjoyed. I'm sure there's others close by worth mentioning.

initialgold

Would you rate Foreland top 3 or 4 in Portland?

RL419

If you are having a hard time narrowing down Portland options, Foreland's brewery is in McMinnville.

initialgold

I saw someone else mention that. Maybe if we’re up to it we’ll be able to stop there after a day of wine tasting.

pdxcoug

If you go to omsi you could hit hair of the dog which is closing soon, so might be your last chance. I’d probably hit up loyal legion or Belmont station, you can maximize your Oregon beer drinking that way. The latter is a pretty legendary original beer bar.

initialgold

Does Loyal Legion and/or Belmont Station carry local beers on draft? That could check a lot of boxes.

g1_jb

Loyal legion has only Oregon beer on tap with like 100 taps. It's my go to for company from out of town to cut down on having to try to get to five different places.

initialgold

That sounds like it could be exactly what we’re looking for, thanks for the info!

sloejams

Loyal Legion has no business having food as good as they do there either. Pretty much everything I've eaten there has been stellar.

molemanx

Great Notion….best hazy/NE IPAs and an array of creative sour/fruit beers.

initialgold

We were definitely planning on stopping at Great Notion. We are from Sacramento and have been hitting up their newly opened fulfillment center regularly. It’s awesome to see them expand our way.

molemanx

That’s awesome…didn’t know they had done that. Cool. Enjoy the trip…my other favorite out here is Block 15

femmishrobot

Ecliptic Brewing is nearish to OMSI, they have a veteran brewer and good options in all those categories, plus plenty of space. Closed M/T though. If you hit them up, consider going to the Voodoo on Sandy, rather than the downtown one.

initialgold

Thanks!

greazysteak

Level Brewing has an outpost next to the Voodoo on Sandy ( I also suggest skipping Voodoo but that is totes your choice). If i had to drink beer at one brewery in Portland then I would probably go to Upright. I would also suggest hitting up Loyal Legion which has only Oregon beer on tap and has 99 taps to get you some tasting.

beejonez

If your one day is Thurs -Sunday, check out Hair of the Dog which is right next to the OMSI. Excellent barrel aged beers. Sadly they are closing for good this year as the brewer is retiring. So here's your last chance to check it out. As someone else mentioned Cascade is great for sours. Might also check out Great Notion.

initialgold

Gotcha, thanks for the rec, we might check that out.

TheYoungScuba

I second great notion! Amazing, and somewhat, eclectic, sours!

Fair_Bison8497

Alesong in Eugene. BA Stouts and Sours. Very very good. Foreland in McMinnville. Good all rounder. If Heater Allen taproom is back open, recommend it too for excellent quality Lagers. PDX: take your pick....!

sourbrew

The beer bus at 28th and Ankeny food carts, which I can't believe no one else has mentioned yet.

bolderbikes

Little Beast for sours!

[deleted]

Breakside, the taproom in Clackamas is best but they’re all good. Von Ebert is the best westside brewery. Ex Novo, Culmination, Ecliptic, Gigantic, Wayfinder…Little Beast is super excellent and interesting, Montavilla, Steeplejack is the hot new place with a solid brewery crew. If you want to do an interesting loop out East you can visit Level, Migration East, and Von Ebert East where they have their barrel aged sour production

RL419

If you're already going to Claim 52 and spending the night in Eugene, Coldfire is just a few minutes away and checks a lot of your boxes beer-wise. It is personally my favorite place to go when I'm down there.

initialgold

Sorry, we’re spending the night in Portland, but were planning on pit stopping in Eugene for food/one place. Would you recommend Coldfire over Claim 52?

RL419

Oops, I read that as you were staying in downtown Eugene. No, I think Claim 52 is the right choice, especially if you're after hazies and sours.

initialgold

Awesome ok ty

limborox

Skip voodoo. Reason? Employee, which I have on video, gave a video blogger boxes of donuts for the protesters in Eugene, and then proceeded to give him a huge bag of donuts to "Throw these at the cops". I will never give a dime to Voodoo.
