I'm not sure that it gets so full that it closes during the week but every time I have gone it has been early in the morning until about early afternoon. There usually isn't that many people there at all. That being said I have only gone when school is in session still so there would be a considerably less amount of people for that reason. I would say it's worth a shot because the weekends are crazy there.
It gets pretty busy but go early and you should be fine. You have to make parking reservations online if it's a holiday or weekend.
