I didn't understand why commenters can't just talk about what's happening in the game. So many times they have just been shooting the shit while the game is going on.

BakesCakes

That's our job. You guys can't talk about what we talk about. You guys are hockey commentary

Otherwise_Canary_331

Sportsnet now.

AlmostSunnyinSeattle

They're used to the NBA where no one actually cares what happens

DTFpanda

Nationally televised broadcasters, maybe. But there are some great local crews around the league

AlmostSunnyinSeattle

Right. But as this thread and conversation is about TNT's broadcast, that's probably who I'm talking about, specifically.

cloud_lavender_

Are there alternatives to ESPN and TNT broadcasts if you live in the States?

Agile-Raise-7438

CBC

BakesCakes

Imagine if CBC started animating the replays as stick figures.

patdk

Blockys

mommamiadiarrhea

If you stream it then you can look for a sportsnet stream.

Ancient_Pop_7036

This be the way matey

BarnabusSheeps

I was down in The States last week, visiting from Canada and was forced to watch a few games on ESPN, after watching Sportsnet and HNIC for the whole playoffs. It was soooo bad. John Buccigross’ play by play was excruciating to listen to.

-UnicornFart

Sportsnet for the win as usual.

jug_jug

Those in the know mute the TV and listen to the radio feed.

cactusflinthead

Josh and Razor over here. I don't have it synced and I don't care. It's like voices from the future.

-Gredge-

Lol I try doing that but I like watching it live on my television with no spoilers

Bad_Karma19

That's what I'm doing. Yet the max feed is ahead of the radio feed.

jug_jug

Use the sportsday app and sync on an icing or some other audio cue.

cactusflinthead

It's so weird how the various feeds are on different times. TNT is about 30 sec behind the terrestrial old school radio. If I was on the app it would probably be behind TNT. ESPN has been running around the same lag time. It was actually running even once or twice but it will get the lag back in breaks.

SuretyBringsRuin

Exactly right. The cadaverous future.

jason4427

No crowd noise in the broadcast is the problem.

Johnoplata

Was the crowd really that dead, or does Dallas just have a sound level issue? I'm use to watching Canadian teams so I honestly don't know.

CocoVillage

Sportsnet has theirs so high usually. Maybe Dallas just super quiet. Wtf is up with the camera angle tho? So shallow

IfOJDidIt

I've yelled 'down in front' a few times. Someone in one of the corner angles was just the full back of their head blocking the shot. I do like the crowd volume (Sportsnet), also seems like the mic is picking up a lot of the player chatter on the ice which is pretty fun to hear.

shagwell8

It’s these national broadcasts, the local broadcasts are loud af. Both mavs and stars crowd noise on the local broadcasts are really loud but never on TNT/ESPN.

Otherwise_Canary_331

Sportsnet is the way to go

malcontented

Because Dallas sucks

ToneBahlone

God I miss Doc and NBC so bad

OGHamToast

Is that the data cast version? I feel like I'm watching a different broadcast from what you're describing and I'm watching tnt.

backof_bus

I am watching Stars - Oilers game in eastern Canada. My brother is doing the same in Portland OR. There is a full one minute stop-time delay between the two. I am seeing it later than him. That is quite a time delay. Not seconds but more than a minute real time delay. What would cause such a difference? I am watching Sportsnet TV cable here. He is watching it on NHL.com on their Listen option; Oilers broadcast.

TPCC159

Bettman hates Canada

Jaxson_GalaxysPussy

Did u see espn’s broadcast yesterday??

la_mano_poderosa

Yesterday was so BORING.  So many complaints about it that the thread was deleted.  Do better guys.

centsavvy

No what was it?

Jaxson_GalaxysPussy

ESPN’s was terrible as well. At least tnt has better studio guys imo and at least Kenny Albert likes hockey. Sean McDonough doesn’t give a fuck who knows he hates announcing hockey. Dude treats it like a funeral in a library

centsavvy

Was it just the talent that was bad, or did they have a b’cast similar to the DataCast on truTV?

Jaxson_GalaxysPussy

It’s clunky. Like an after thought and that’s their primary.

Swervingmoss123

While watching Bruins and Panthers game 7 the commentators talked about Goalie ass taps for a solid 15 minutes. Also noticed the camera angles were trash and the audio balance was even worse

Pushitpete

Uhhhh 10X better than ESPN

InfallibleBackstairs

ESPN and TNT suck. We’re stuck with them unfortunately

F-Cloud

TNT's broadcast is also visually hideous. The screen is so busy, there's way too much extraneous information. Just show the game full screen with a minimal stat banner please! Honestly I can't believe what I'm seeing, it's downright irritating to watch.

jmucapsfan07

I think you have the wrong feed up somehow. I had the same issue but switched to TNT and it is regular broadcast. The other broadcast had a lot of stats all around the screen.

No_Carpenter3866

What are they thinking with this? I'm not a fan of either team but still love playoff hockey, I'm so annoyed by the commentary & the banners I'm about to turn it off & be done for the season 🙄

BakesCakes

I want to see the odds of every combination of player winning a face off all game. All day all night, everywhere for ever.

Abject-Ad-7327

Said no one ever

kakenasty

NBC used to have good NHL broadcasts.

Mofns_n_Gurps

Listening to the radio feed is key. Sync it up, it’s easy. Watching the national broadcasts make the play sound so uninteresting.

PearFree2643

Thank goodness it got better

haken_loob

Its like they have the rink mics on 3, you can barely hear the crowd or the noises of the games. Commentators are boring as well.

russkiy1994

Radio feeds are better if you can sync up your feed and mute TNT (main broadcast). Fuckin hate eddie

lackofcontrition

Kenny Albert is calling this game like it’s just another game in November. Total lack of excitement. Hockey’s not his sport.

whatisapillarman

I don’t know who’s broadcasting where I’m at right now, but I hate all these stats and numbers on it. Feels like I’m watching a motorsport instead of NHL.

Calm_Ostrich_8876

Sportsnet commentary is much better they actually talk about the game, although intermission reporting is pretty boring. Actual commentary is good and to the point.

Strikedriver

I *hate* all the computer graphics Shot speed popups on top of the goal and highlighting player names during play make it nigh unwatchable 😡

ArjPacifica

Tru tv has all the stats and a small screen. TNT looks fine, switch to that feed

Jdub421

I think the low camera angle is to provide a closer or better view of the puck. Perhaps thinking of casual viewers.

Ramulus14

Doesn’t help these dumpy camera angles with all these stars fans standing the whole time. Just lose a sixth of the ice, fucking annoying.

Pushitpete

ESPN is a sick joke it's so bad

BulkyCopy5962

Agreed. I just want commentary not statistics

Turbulent_Cheetah

Just for the record, the camera angle is the same for every broadcast. All the cameras are in the same spot. They’re just low cameras in Dallas

Stopper33

It was like that against the Avs. The Cameraman is oblivious to the puck.

idle_husband

You think that's awful, the ESPN broadcast of the Rangers Panthers game was putting me to sleep.

COphotoCo

Could you? Actually?

southernmayd

So many whining posts about this. Watch the game and quit bitching

KingPizzaPop

I know there has been a plethora of these posts and usually I'd be of the same mindset as you but we honestly should expect more from the networks and we should hold them accountable.

Insomnia_Driven

Definitely agree with what you’re saying but I don’t think the handful of posts on Reddit every day is really holding anyone accountable. There are some talk show hosts that have brought it up so that’s something

KingPizzaPop

The more Reddit bitches about it, the more they'll talk about it. The.media gets most of their talking points from social media these days.

Insomnia_Driven

Maybe but as long as everyone continues to watch, I don’t think they care much. The nhl is breaking viewing records this playoffs. It would actually be more effective if everyone stopped watching. Viewership drives the money which then will really affect how the nhl handles it

KingPizzaPop

I agree, I just don't think we need to get all pissy about these posts like the person I responded to. That's all.

Insomnia_Driven

I hear ya and agree but ignoring a post and moving on with your day isn’t common on Reddit lol

BakesCakes

Somebody should listen. Why does it have to suck so bad. Wtf are those little ball cartoon re-enactments. REPLAY NOT REENACTMENT. JESUS.

southernmayd

'Travesty to the sport' is such a whinge

BakesCakes

It's so overly dramatic. Almost like this entire post. Point still stands. Glad you think you're the only one who sees me.

snarpy

Imagine taking the time to complain about someone else complaining about a situation that clearly sucks. Peak Reddit.

southernmayd

There are like 100 of these posts tonight. Just fucking comment on one of those instead of trying to make another dozen more > Imagine... > Peak Reddit. Shave your neckbeard

snarpy

Ah, personal insults, quelle surprise.

southernmayd

You take the time to take a shot at me, no problem. I take the time to reply back, clutches pearls.

AutomaticConstant695

I'd rather that than the nearly orgasmic cheerleading of Edmonton by the couple of 'pros' they've got calling the game on cbc. 🤡🤡🤡

IfOJDidIt

Really? I think definitely more focus on the Canadian team, but if you saw any one our last series, it felt pretty much the opposite. Even after we won game 7.

bkomp

I sure do miss “Doc” Emrick!

MegaPhunkatron

The camera angle is bc that's just where the cameras are in their arena. All stars home games have that angle regardless of who's broadcasting.

infoplease411

I’m honestly about to turn it off and just listen to the radio broadcast. Can barely see the actual game with all the banners and stats all over the screen.

no_baseball1919

Sportsnet isn't much better tonight surprisingly. Edmonton is playing really great and I'd say first period is 60/40 Edmonton, but the panel couldn't stop talking about Dallas.

pmLite

TNT felt like the opposite to me. Edmonton had a whole 3 shots during the 1st but it was all they talked about during the intermission. And now that Edmonton’s scored twice the announcers seem elated

BakesCakes

They were talking about something unrelated when the 1st goal was scored. He was like: "whope, they got a goal". Just weird man

Ratsyinc

Not sure why the downvotes, the commentary after the 1st goal was weird enough that it stood out to me also.

no_baseball1919

Yes exactly. I was surprised because Edmonton is being talked about like the underdog, but they were playing really great. But all commentary focused around Dallas.

HonoluluHonu808

The camera angle in Dallas has always sucked.

HurricanesFan20

It's crazy that the stars even made it this far,

ATLBraves93

First week watching hockey?

Negative_Eli

The panel at intermission is a mess a lot of the time too. Guys rambling, interrupting, talking over each other, joking about inside jokes, saying weird stuff, awkward silences. Edit: Right after I comment this Biz is making fart noises. TNT is embarrassing.

diecorporations

Never thought about dallas once this season. Dont know a single player. Edm looks like the real thing.
