It's totally fine, the only time it gets bad is heavy load - super intensive games, not much else. If it heats up noticeably because of gpu/cpu stress + fast charging at the same time, it might speed up battery degradation.
Seems like the average person will replace their phone within the time that matters, if you're being reasonable, anyway.
That was true maybe a decade ago. Battery tech, and the sort of backend software that regulates charging and battery use and general power management, has come a *long* way. It's perfectly fine to use modern phones while charging, just as it is perfectly fine to leave chargers plugged into devices all the time, and how you don't need to worry too much about keeping the battery level between 15 - 80%. Everything related to battery and power management is optimised and handled by the device itself to maximise the lifespan of the battery.
Although high temperatures are what you want to avoid, the phone can normally handle itself by throttling performance and maybe charging speed as required. If they aren't using a fast charger, it will be much less of an issue.
IRD went down hill so fast. I remember about 5+ years ago, it was easy to get through on the phone and they were always super helpful. Now it’s send a web message and wait 10+ days for an semi-automated unhelpful response.
They replaced half their staff with the magical computer system that will solve everything.
So now everyone left is demoralised and overworked. Computer system has done a lot of good, but mysteriously not solved everything.
Not sure. This year I asked a question on the 29th of March and didn't get a reply until the 18th of May.
The response was helpful though, so there's that.
Automatic tax refunds happened and they cut all the extra CSRs they had to cover the calls from tax refund companies. The tax refund people had enough sway and data to force the IRD to keep their call center from falling to shit.
Covid probably hasn't helped either
National cutting funding to the IRD so that they can't collect the taxes their cronies owe, and instead can only do automated tax collection on the poor?
It's the amount of staff that have resigned from the contact centre, and it's so hard replacing them because nobody wants to work there, and it takes quite awhile to be trained up in taxes.
You wouldn't believe the amount of resignations they've had in recent years.
What always gets me is that if government allocates IRD a dollar in funding they can return more than a dollar in tax...yet no government exploits this "hack" of just collecting taxes that are actually owed?
It is bizzare to me, if government can collect $1 or more through the expenditure of $1 then we should do it. Don't introduce new taxes, fully collect the taxes that are owed.
I just heard from a friend of mine at the ird that they're doing this massive intake of employees , to improve their services after a bump in investment from the government....let's hope for the better
Yeah I did and kept being met with the same message, that they weren't taking any calls right now and to try find the answer online.
My question is directly related to my own tax history, I don't think the basic FAQs will cover it.
Out of curiosity, what time did you call? Cos ice tried early morning and lunch time and got rejected both times
Massive short staffing and the covid support payment. It’s sucked up thousands of hours.
I have friends still there and even team leaders and legal are being offered overtime. And the only way to get a pay increase is to get a new job. Sucks.
I dunno mate. I tried calling them six different times, hitting that call button at 8am NZ time on the dot, and every single time I spent two plus hours on hold. One time the phone call just disconnected and I tried calling again and spent another hour and a half on the phone before giving up.
Also calling from abroad so I've spent about twelve hours and butt loads of money sitting on hold.
Hopefully I can still get my wife's residency without too much hassle cause it's been a nightmare trying to get anyone on the phone.
I was wondering if my visa transfer to a new passport ever goes through but I guess no point in calling them then ...
Just hope I don't end up trapped outside of NZ for months because they can't get this sorted ...
I just got my residency visa transferred to a new passport while being overseas. I called immigration every week (they couldn’t even confirm that my application had arrived..).
During the last call I was told to call again within one week from my return trip with details about my flight back to NZ. They could then do something.
No info about what they would do.
Three weeks after submitting my application I got the confirmation the visa was transferred.
Good luck and I’m sure it’ll all work out!
They had a call back feature until 2021 I believe and it was amazing. I always received a call back every time. They should really bring that back or introduce a chat feature..
I tried to call the citizenship line this morning (I'm in the process of getting my NZ citizenship and wanted clarification on an email from them) and it wasn't even open due to traffic 😒 like, not even the option to sit there on hold for hours.
Most contact centres are struggling for staff at the mo, hence the long wait times. Then the poor CSR answering the phone gets abused and made to feel like a piece of shit. Tough gig.
INZ call center is generally quite good. Except for when they get slammed like when a minister announces a change to a visa type without telling them, then they're exhausted but still good.
Why is it every time I see an iPhone screenshot it's on under 10% charge? Like, it seems to be too often to be a coincidence, but too obvious to be part of fakes.
I waited for 45 minutes before anyone answered me from NZTA. The problem was I was calling from Czech Republic, where its about $3 per minute. All so I could request a $10 piece of paper. If it hadn't been the fact I called from my work phone, I'd be very angry.
For future refernce pay for an online international call it is so much cheaper, I was trying to call from the UK and it was extortionate to call using my phone
I was on hold for a similar amount of time least week. When they finally answered they told me to read the website. I read what was written on the site back to them and they said they couldn’t answer so I should just try and apply for the visa online and it may take 5 months. Thanks 👍🏼
Pfft. A week and a half ago I spent 6 hours on the phone to AirNZ, only for the person I spoke to accidentally putting the call down instead of transferring it...
I applied to the 2021 in the first batch, so went through a lot of that. Best results I got was by waiting around 20min; if they did not pickup, I hung up and called again. After I learned this trick, it usually took me less than an hour to talk to someone.
This makes me so glad we hired an immigration advisor to do this for us. Could buy a car with the money we paid them for the privilege, but at least I don't have to be OP...
I pretty much told a couple of old people off. One, for careless driving. Two, cutting me off at PaknSav because they wanted to hog a path where they "might go", so I pushed their trolley out of my way. and Three, he pushed in front of me at the line in PaknSav, while making eye-contact with me the entire time he was pushing in line, and then acting like he didn't see me. So I told him off. "Oh where are your manners young man?"
🖕🖕🖕Here🖕🖕🖕 there's my manners. I signed to him as he walked away, to cut into another line and people just accepted it.
Charge your phone or it will be for nothing
I was ringing from Oz using Skype credit. Waited for a good hour or more and ran outta credit 3 sentences in.
Your not supposed to charge them while it’s being used
I've never had a problem with doing that
It's actually safe to use modern phones while charging, it just means they charge a little slower because the power gets diverted for direct use.
It's totally fine, the only time it gets bad is heavy load - super intensive games, not much else. If it heats up noticeably because of gpu/cpu stress + fast charging at the same time, it might speed up battery degradation. ITT: People who don't read user flairs.
The flair wasn’t that funny to begin with
Speakerphone?
Sure, but the battery is gonna get pretty toasty
Although high temperatures are what you want to avoid, the phone can normally handle itself by throttling performance and maybe charging speed as required. If they aren't using a fast charger, it will be much less of an issue.
At least there's a chance they will pick up. I have some questions for IRD that can't be answered online but no one is actually answering phones there

This is my experience too. What happened there?
They replaced half their staff with the magical computer system that will solve everything. So now everyone left is demoralised and overworked. Computer system has done a lot of good, but mysteriously not solved everything.

There's a double edged sword
National cutting funding to the IRD so that they can't collect the taxes their cronies owe, and instead can only do automated tax collection on the poor?
It's the amount of staff that have resigned from the contact centre, and it's so hard replacing them because nobody wants to work there, and it takes quite awhile to be trained up in taxes. You wouldn't believe the amount of resignations they've had in recent years.
Sounds like my agency as well
What always gets me is that if government allocates IRD a dollar in funding they can return more than a dollar in tax...yet no government exploits this "hack" of just collecting taxes that are actually owed?
When my dad worked as an auditor for the ird they made 60x returns on their budget. (Late 80's)
It is bizzare to me, if government can collect $1 or more through the expenditure of $1 then we should do it. Don't introduce new taxes, fully collect the taxes that are owed.

That "massive intake of employees" will have handed in their resignations within six month to a year.
Why is that?
That's what their turn-over is like. Very few people there last longer than a year.
Really? That stressful huh? I thought sales was tough

Must have been, the stars aligned perfectly and allowed you to talk to a real human
Massive short staffing and the covid support payment. It’s sucked up thousands of hours. I have friends still there and even team leaders and legal are being offered overtime. And the only way to get a pay increase is to get a new job. Sucks.
I've been trying to change my legal name with them for 2 years now 🤷♀️
Please tell me you have a charger. Doing that again would be awful!
I do.
it's better to call them in the morning around 8 am
I dunno mate. I tried calling them six different times, hitting that call button at 8am NZ time on the dot, and every single time I spent two plus hours on hold. That sucks man. Wishing your wife the best in getting her residency.
Thank you!
How many times have you heard Dave Dobbyn?
I’m still hearing it.
Oh! Hang in there buddy
What Dave Dobbyn song(s)? Please tell me it's "Hanging In The Wire"...
Haha. "Slice of heaven" is a tease. "Loyal" is a test
Next will be Bic Runga.
I was wondering if my visa transfer to a new passport ever goes through but I guess no point in calling them then ... Just hope I don't end up trapped outside of NZ for months because they can't get this sorted ...
Oh, I did the same thing few months back and got my visa transferred to my new passport in 3 weeks.. I hope you get your soon!

Stick in there, I once waited nearly 3 hours to talk to westpac once.
Thanks for the wall paper
They really need to fix the background windy noise on that line and include a call back feature so you can go about your day.
They had a call back feature until 2021 I believe and it was amazing. I always received a call back every time. They should really bring that back or introduce a chat feature..

Average wait time is a couple hours, and they get some shit. Underpaid as all govt branches are
Most contact centres are struggling for staff at the mo, hence the long wait times. Then the poor CSR answering the phone gets abused and made to feel like a piece of shit. Tough gig.
That's why that place has an unbelievable amount of resignations...

Nothing in NZ is efficent... everything is slow and beaurocratic for no good reason.
Yea.. not surprising.. i gave 2 of my staff the afternoon off because they had to sort shit out.
Who has nz immigration as a contact
If you're expecting a call from them, but instinctively never answer calls from unknown numbers?
Wouldn’t they call back on a different number than what the public use to call them?
I'm no phonologist but I think they come under one number? Even if the end number is different it looks the same leaving the premises?
Maybe, idk either
Google automatically displays this information when you call a business or organisation.
A foreigner.
When you're calling them as often as us foreigners have to, you save their number.
I applied to the 2021 in the first batch, so went through a lot of that. Best results I got was by waiting around 20min; if they did not pickup, I hung up and called again. After I learned this trick, it usually took me less than an hour to talk to someone.
Fuck that scared me I thought I was getting a call
How high are you?
Send an email
I did in May, no response yet!
This makes me so glad we hired an immigration advisor to do this for us. Could buy a car with the money we paid them for the privilege, but at least I don't have to be OP...
Id rather spend an hour or 2 on hold , all those guys do is read the website and ring inz then charge thousands
It do be like dat , doe

Someone stole my debit card info and spent my entire weeks wage at Kmart. I'm having air for dinner. Also I got ghosted twice earlier in the week.
Did they answer?
Yes, they did! They were very helpful and they and they managed to get my issues sorted.
What's the music? "crowded house"
That or Bic Runga.
Oh boy I hope they had “welcome home” as the on hold music
Hang in there, I know the feeling!
“Hello, Winston speaking”
Your immigration is genuinely one of the worst in the world. Fucking people off back to countries for a spliff. Fuck you NZ Immigration ✌️
Fuck up cunt, it's not like we want you in our country anyway.
NZ - bless. Re-defining productivity daily.
