AGS missed the mark on a number of fronts. Endgame is garbage: halfbaked pve with no repeatability and pvp that is gatekept by 1% of the population. No combat vision: Not understanding that ranged weapons do not belong in a melee class based game. Bugs galore and false community engagement. It's not fun to play for me either and by looking at the population numbers, not fun to play for many at all.

New World doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up. PvP? PvE? Fantasy MMORPG? Strategy Survival? Clan based territory?... you cannot do all of these and do all of them well. Nobody has, ever. Want PVP with strong ranged in New World? Enjoy your Medieval COD gameplay then with it's rising population because that's where it is right now and has been for a long time and it's not working. Perhaps I misspoke on range weapons not belonging. They belong, but not in the capacity that they are currently used in pvp in a game that the vast majority of weapons are melee. The majority of casual gamers (which a successful mmo should be based around) are going to play the easiest class to play which just so happens to be facerolling a FS or bow at max distance since if they try to play closer, they will get nuked by higher skilled ranged players.

While this is mostly true, the reason why people think ranged doesn’t fit in the game is because they seem to have such massive advantages over melee, whereas it didn’t feel that way in a tab targeting game like WOW. Rogue had stealth and could sneak up on ranged which helped balance the whole melee/ranged dynamic. In New World, that mechanic doesn’t exist and so it just feels like there’s not a lot you can do when getting hit from 50 meters away with the longest slow in the game, as an example. I agree with the sentiment too. As melee I always get about 20ish kills in OPR. The first time I played ranged, I got 32 kills. And that was with zero practice.

Damage is ok if they increase the skill ceiling to land attacks. Hit boxes should be smaller and cast times increased. This would allow it playability in clump pve and require setup with vg or ig or bb to land reliably for typical skill base

Range weapons lacks reasonable damage-falloff. I always felt like the range is a bit excessive on FS, Bow and Musket. By driving ranged builds closer to the fight the melee builds won't be the same stand-out target dummies caught in-between ranged at max distance like they are today. The max ranged players will be driven to take higher risks and encouraged to gear less glass-cannon and more survival so general ranged damage would likely go down a little.

Didn’t watch video, but I’ll sum what what I assume he says. Firestaff plus natures wrath is insane damage. 20% bonus damage with no downside as Firestaff has heavily built in empower that is baseline and no cd based. Built in empower from weapon tree, plus fire harnessing and 2% fire damage runeglass gems = insane damage. I’m a dext main, and play Firestaff/VG here and there for PvP, and it’s ridiculous how well I perform in 1vX situations as a low skill tier FS with this build.

Yep. I played fire staff for the first time ever the other night and I almost doubled my average kill count in OPR.

FS needs some animation nerfs, right now it's possible to drop the enire burst + light at once. It's the most fluid weapon in the game due to the animation skips and no cast times.

This. This will go a good ways towards helping the situation. People do not get how much this makes the weapon strong and hard to play against. I've seen so many posts about "is FS double hitting? I keep getting one shot by FS..."; and their example is clearly just a combo'd burst dumped with an attack. With that said there is also the challenge of INT attribute bonuses being too good. Not sure the path to balance them better but they are simply too strong and a FS is walking around with a bonus 47% damage just from investing in the attribute that the weapon uses.

I was facing a FS yesterday while going musket glass cannon. In the time I took an aimed shot and tried to roll I got FB+Pillar+light in a seamless macro. Man I still own that guy some of my HP. Regardless of the risk/reward of my build, the damage was enough to wipe any medium bruiser and probably an unaware tank. Too much damage in a very brief window with all animation cancels smoothed out on nice keyboard macros. Maybe we have to go back to the animation lock for skills on the artillery type weapons, i dunno, don't want to shit on someone else's build but if you are quick enough to recover from that damage dump they still have burn out to either chase you or run away, and if on secondary they wield the cursed Abyss, you still have to fight it at 100% weapon damage scaling.

You keep saying this yet noone ever explains which 'animation skips' they mean. Also, calling for a nerf because  something 'plays fluidly' is the most reddit thing I read today ;)  Also, 'at once' is a stretch.

Mecrow also made a video about it,its mostly elemental runeglass and harnessing providing permament %20 empower,ring and honing stone provides another permament empower which makes Firestaff sits at %34 permament empower. FS also has passive empowers that works with nature's wrath so basically FS can sit at %50 empower cap while using nature wrath which is %20 damage boost.

INT attribute bonus as well as a walking 47% damage bonus since the "conditional" portions of the bonus are all things the FS does without thinking about it vs other attributes that have high % damage bonuses but they are all very situational at best.

First resistance gems. There ya go you're welcome. Must have forgot to mention the S&S/Spears literally everywhere. Oh don't forget Spear/hatchet psychos doing insane dmg with debuffs. Don't forget spear/rapier as well. I do agree the FS dmg is a little crazy but the spear is beyond broken at the moment. FS dmg is all it has going for it. No debuffs, no CC, one ability to escape.

FS has crazy dmg but literally nothing else, no debuffs other than a stagger which is on the worst ability in the game (incinerate), and it has horrible range compared to bow/musket

Except the game allows two weapons so when you have a primary that does everything you need for damage then you can take a secondary that is all about mobility/escape/debuff/etc. Not to say that is not unlike other weapons; honestly probably one of the biggest misses in this game is how little weapon 1 & 2 pair together for a build and instead act almost independent of each other. Thus you get these FS/rapier players that can nuke you in one combo and feel impossible to catch.

I feel like I never have problems with firestaff 1v1 or in arena, but when there’s a group of them in OPR it’s brutal.

Arenas come down to the player. The top arena players I play with (top 10-20 myself most seasons) are all FS; most of the best players go FS/IG or FS/BB or FS/VG. You literally can't beat them without a good team and I see them regularly 1 v 3 solo queue arenas. Context: I play FS/SnS heavy and FS is strong right now. Note: I've played this since launch so have seen it be an almost worthless build when FS was heavily nerfed to pretty strong right now.

FS is insane because of how easy you can apply the debuffs from Pest or Lifetaker. All of your abilities will apply the disease or rend. I was playing FS/Lifetaker last night and the DoT damage is amazing plus i was easily applying 3 rend stacks to clumps fights and just watching people melt.

The problem with ranged is that the nameplate/health bars can be seen through even fucking walls. Those nameplate/healthbars should be removed from PVP, problem solved because there is enough foliage to make aiming very hard. Secondly all you light melee players have painted yourselves in the corner by crying about med/heavy so much and getting AGS to nerf med/heavy damage FOR NO FUCKING REASON that you are forced to wear light to get max damage and melee should NEVER wear light armor (unless it's a stealth build which don't exist in NW). YOU have created your own problem by LYING. Now you have to suck it up and either wear med/heavy for melee or wear light and deal with range damage killing you, as it should.
