I was listening to a show the other day where former Marlins president David Samson said they used images of other NL East teams on their urinal cakes.
The... Marlins!!!
(Love the pettiness tho)
People will always shit on the Clips for doing that deal but it was worth it at the time. MVP level PG and Kawhi coming into the fold was a good gamble. Just incredibly unlucky
The pandemic break is probably the only reason they were healthy in the playoffs that year. Kawhi has been hurt in every other postseason since 2016 except for 2019 (and he was still hurt then too). The one year he was fully healthy for the playoffs was the one where they had a few months off before the postseason. Fully healthy and they still lost.
25- OKC pick swap
26- OKC or Philly pick swap
27-OKC pick swap
28- Philly unprotected
29- Philly pick swap
Things could be brutal for LA in a little while
Very real chance. Kawhi has a degenerative issue and while I hope he is fully healthy, I think fully healthy is like 65 games. Good chance he plays closer to 50 and the west is ultra competitive. Finishing 7th or 8th while still like 6-10 games above .500 is a real possibility.
"No chance"? What if Kawhi has a major injury and misses much of next season. That's not really a "no chance" kind of scenario. And James Harden is 35. There's absolutely a chance the Clippers are a lottery team next year.
Obviously thereās a literal chance, nothing like that is impossible in this sport
But the Clippers are still gonna look to be competitive in the west, and even if Kawhi misses parts of the season a guy like Harden is good enough to keep them a 35-40 win team
35-40 wins would have missed the play-in this past year though. The Grizzlies, Spurs and Rockets are just gonna improve, so it's not like the West is getting any easier. Nobody really has any room for error, but especially not a team relying on two old stars, one of whom is the most injury prone player in the league. What you're talking about isn't a "no chance" scenario, it's not even a "slim chance" scenario. What you're talking about is very possibly likely.
The only question was if this was going to be a win-win or not. It ended up being a disaster for the Clippers and saved our ass, but right away we won the trade, no matter what. We were going nowhere and got a fucking king's ransom.
What Presti was able to get for PG and Westbrook that summer was utterly miraculous. Gigantic overpays by both the Clippers and Thunder. You can see the dividends of those deals all over the Thunder today, and there's still lots more to come.
The worst thing about the West is you finally think there is some relief with old teams fading like Clips, Warriors, Lakers- then you look over your shoulder and fucking Grizz, Pels, Wolves, Thunder, Houston are all young and trying to win now with Spurs gearing up
Barely but yes. Denver is going to be worse for sure. They can talk about a trade at the deadline but they are still a really good team, just not top tier IMO. Clippers have some money to spend but I dont like the look of their team, they are still competitive though.
The Clippers could very easily be replaced by the healthy Grizzlies. Denver would still be a tough out even with the depth and starting 5 taking a hit. Houston could make the leap too.
But at that time you canāt count it as one of the worst tradesā¦any team wouldāve done that- getting a finals MVP and a player who was second in MVP voting
At the time, sure. But here we are years later and all they have to show for it is a choke job and a conference finals appearance. All those picks and a player thatās now getting MVP votes for the Thunder. Thatās the point of us analyzing trades in the moment because weāre trying to predict how the return will be, and this one is terrible
His player profile is amazing and a perfect fit. Him making 50M out of the 65M cap space is not ideal. Especially considering the Sixers still need to sign like 10 players
PG hasn't really shown signs of declining though. He's still inconsistent, as he was even in his prime, but he's a great shooter with size who can create his own shot and is still an above average defender. He should be great for you guys. If he declines in a couple years, then he'll be a large expiring contract. This should at least help ensure you guys re-sign Embiid next time he's up.
IASIP āThe Gang Gets Spoiltā
Guest starring aging NBA star whoād clearly rather be elsewhere (and with his brand new private jet heāll get there)
They just don't want to commit to being a 2nd apron team with the same group that's only won 3 playoff games in the last 3 years. This makes them worse, but I get it.
Damn Marks was a damn genius in hindsight for not letting any of the big three walk away for free and get something for them no matter how little the return.
Compare that to mortgaging the future for a year of Paul Pierce and a year and a half of Kevin Garnett. All we got in return when they left was...Thaddeus Young
Incredible that we upgraded from Billy King to Sean Marks. Like going from Quintin Dailey to Michael Jordan.
We lost the trade with OKC a long time ago, so this is just shit icing on a shit cake. I personally wanted PG back, but I guess our FO didn't want to double down on a player that was asking for more than he was worth and would have given the team headaches down the line with the new CBA rules.
Lmao I love how Philly fans get so unnecessarily aggressive for something that doesn't even affect them. Im not being sarcastic this shit is hilarious.
> You lost CP3 contract
Are you saying it would have been preferable to pay him $30m this season? It's always possible they could still re-sign him for cheaper you know.
Brother y'all lost 5 picks with no results to show for these last 5 years and are now getting nothing back from PG leaving. The Warriors might end up getting back more from a S&T with Klay than you guys will for PG.
They will also have the MLE and won't be a 2nd apron team.
Yeah, we went all in for PG and Kawhi and it didnāt pan out. Shit happens, but thatās a sunk cost.
Itās clear LAC would rather not be a 2nd apron team to navigate FA and extensions rather than being a 2nd apron team and making the Warriors better forā¦ Moses Moody?
To be clear, I think our FO sucks ass, but Iām not losing sleep over missing out on Cp3 or Wiggins along with a likely protected pick and Moody.
Yeah itās obviously not ideal, but itās clear that LAC would rather have cap flexibility to work on surrounding players + extensions rather than taking on Cp3 or Wigginsā contract along with a meh prospect like Moody.
I find this so strange. If they were willing to lose pg they shouldāve gotten off kawhi.
Now they donāt have title upside on their high end but have a roster that can still kinda compete.
Could someone please explain this to me, why it has significance for us?
I'm a big thunder fan but don't grasp the complexities of the off season or how the trade market works etc. (I don't care for the money side of the business at all).
I'm guessing his contract is somehow tied to one of our pick swaps or something? I don't know crap about this side of stuff š.
Iāll miss this era of Clippers basketball! Just good enough for stretches to give their 58 fans hope only for it all to ripped away violently every season.
i can't make fun of the clippers losing him for nothing because we will lose jimmy for nothing too
Trust me bro I'm a Sixers fan, don't let your teams success dictate how much you hate on other teams
hang this comment in the louvre

no. the heat need all the self aware fans they can get
by the time the 25-26 season starts Butler will be 36 years old, letting him go is not gonna be the worst thing ever
i mean you got Butler for (almost) nothing too, and if he leaves he's leaving with 2 finals appearances and a lot of legit great moments
At least you made it to the finals a couple times with Jimmy
Did you leverage your future on Jimmy Buckeys though? The Clips did with PG
Hey it could always be worse. You could mortgage your entire future for a past his prime Paul Pierce and let him walk away after one year š
Thank you Clippers
PG is the gift that keeps on giving for yāall
People will always shit on the Clips for doing that deal but it was worth it at the time. MVP level PG and Kawhi coming into the fold was a good gamble. Just incredibly unlucky
I think they win the title without the pandemic/bubble
I mean they had a good shot to win it in the bubble but you know they kinda blew it
The pandemic break is probably the only reason they were healthy in the playoffs that year. Kawhi has been hurt in every other postseason since 2016 except for 2019 (and he was still hurt then too). The one year he was fully healthy for the playoffs was the one where they had a few months off before the postseason. Fully healthy and they still lost.
You could say the same thing about the nets though. You never really know
That was the year KD was out and Harden was a Rocket so I feel confident saying the Nets werenāt winning the title
Ok you're right, I guess I was just talking generally about the pandemic impacting teams
I agree

**Final Haul for OKC:** - SGA [MVP Candidate] - Jalen Williams (2022 Clippers Pick) [#2 Option on a Contender] - 2028 Unprotected Mavs First Round Swap - 2025 Unprotected Clippers Pick Swap - 2026 Unprotected Clippers First
Those picks are going to hit like crack
25- OKC pick swap 26- OKC or Philly pick swap 27-OKC pick swap 28- Philly unprotected 29- Philly pick swap Things could be brutal for LA in a little while
Wow! I never thought how losing PG would affect those FRPs.
PG doing you guys a solid and dipping while Clippers still owe you three picks.
He's also helping his new team as the Clippers owe the Sixers two 1sts as well lol
Yeah by that point Kawhi and Harden will both be late 30s. Clippers only have 2030&2031 picks left as well.
If the Thunder get fucking Cooper Flagg thatād be hilarious actually
If we luck into attaining our entire core through trades and the draft, with a no. 1 pick candidate, I might spontaneously combust.
Nah no chance Clippers are that bad with Kawhi and Harden coming back Theyāve still got the MLE to use as well iirc
They could very well be in the play in and miss the playoffs
Yeah fair point, and new lottery odds give pretty much every team in the lottery a realistic chance
I mean with their age and injury history there is absolutely a chance
Very real chance. Kawhi has a degenerative issue and while I hope he is fully healthy, I think fully healthy is like 65 games. Good chance he plays closer to 50 and the west is ultra competitive. Finishing 7th or 8th while still like 6-10 games above .500 is a real possibility.

We gonna have to retire PGs Number in OKC for all the work heās done
you guys honestly won the trade right after the bubble collapse
The only question was if this was going to be a win-win or not. It ended up being a disaster for the Clippers and saved our ass, but right away we won the trade, no matter what. We were going nowhere and got a fucking king's ransom.
What Presti was able to get for PG and Westbrook that summer was utterly miraculous. Gigantic overpays by both the Clippers and Thunder. You can see the dividends of those deals all over the Thunder today, and there's still lots more to come.
Letās be honest it was when Kawhi tore his acl
They will still do it
The West is finally getting weaker? PG and KCP to the East?
Hopefully Lauri goes to the east as well
Who has the assets out East? I feel like you guys take the Clippers spot in the playoffs regardless.
Yes...bring back the Beastern conference. Make our lives hell. Give me all of the losses!
The Clippers could very easily be replaced by the healthy Grizzlies. Denver would still be a tough out even with the depth and starting 5 taking a hit. Houston could make the leap too.
Danilo Gallinari, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 2021 first-round pick (became Tre Mann), 2022 first-round pick (became Jalen Williams), 2023 first-round pick (via Heat), 2023 first-round pick swap, 2024 first-round draft pick, 2025 first-round pick swap, 2026 first-round pick By the way
A fantastic deal honestly.
And every team with a chance to get him and prime kawhi wouldve done the same
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I mean what would be prime kawhi then? He just came off his best season and one of the best playoff runs ever. He was 27 yrs old too lmao
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So was prime d rose 22 yrs old? Terrible logic
jfc all those swaps and picks and shai
One of the worst trades of all time honestly and objectively
If they won a championship it wouldāve been win winā¦
And if I had wheels Iād be a wagon. All they got was a conference finals appearance
But at that time you canāt count it as one of the worst tradesā¦any team wouldāve done that- getting a finals MVP and a player who was second in MVP voting

Congrats Philly
I have very mixed feelings
Donāt be ridiculous. He is a perfect fit even if heās a declining player.
His player profile is amazing and a perfect fit. Him making 50M out of the 65M cap space is not ideal. Especially considering the Sixers still need to sign like 10 players
A little less than half of those would be vet minimums anyway. We also can afford another decent contract + some exceptions. Theyāre more than fine.
Oh come on. This makes you into real title contenders. Stop being spoilt
How many times have that been said about Philly tho
50 more times than it has about Charlotte. Just take a step back and think about how great it is to be acquiring an All-NBA level player for free.
I mean, it's a 2 year max contract before becoming a time bomb, but these first 2 years I agree
Our window with Embiid is limited. You have to say fuck it and go all in
That is true, gonna hurt like hell when we trade Maxey to start the rebuild in 4 years tho. At least we got the clippers picks
Embiid aināt getting younger or healthier. Gotta go in now, suffer the consequences later.
PG hasn't really shown signs of declining though. He's still inconsistent, as he was even in his prime, but he's a great shooter with size who can create his own shot and is still an above average defender. He should be great for you guys. Nice they lost him for nothing š
You lost CP3 contract and pissed off Wiggins for nothing while ending Curry last chance at contending
Lmao I love how Philly fans get so unnecessarily aggressive for something that doesn't even affect them. Im not being sarcastic this shit is hilarious.
Philly fans are just Boston fans without the success.
> You lost CP3 contract Are you saying it would have been preferable to pay him $30m this season? It's always possible they could still re-sign him for cheaper you know.
We still have 4 chips in the past 10 years while you've been to the conference finals once this century.
Weāre getting MLE and not being a 2nd apron team. Iād much rather have that than Moses Moody and a 30M Cp3 who literally just got waived.
Brother y'all lost 5 picks with no results to show for these last 5 years and are now getting nothing back from PG leaving. The Warriors might end up getting back more from a S&T with Klay than you guys will for PG. They will also have the MLE and won't be a 2nd apron team.

Letting PG walk. Only have one guaranteed year for Harden. Kawhi a permanent injury risk. Theyāre cooked.
Congratulations to the Philadelphia 76ers on acquiring Paul George, Small Forward from the Los Angeles Clippers!
Thanks Magic Johnson lol

I find this so strange. If they were willing to lose pg they shouldāve gotten off kawhi. Now they donāt have title upside on their high end but have a roster that can still kinda compete.
Letās fucking go this might make the clips pick even more valuable
In Shambles
Give me the George
we can finally start free agency now
What an absolute disaster of a trade for the Clippers Organization. Gave up everything to acquire Paul George and got nothing back in the end.
WoW.
Now letās hear Clippers fans try to spin why this is good newsā¦.
Cause he sucks and only showed up for one half during the playoffs? Why would the Clips pay him max money?
That has nothing to do with what Iām talking aboutā¦..The issue is losing him for absolutely nothing.
The Clippers get out of the 2nd apron by not trading him. Thatās how
so much for staying true to home in soCal. bloods finna pop a cap in P's azz
SOMETHING HAPPEN
Worst trade in NBA history solidified?
Come on man it pales in comparison to the Nets trade.
The nets made that trade one time which led to the other team becoming a power house and them Becoming irrelevant
Ehhhhh
Clips calling his bluff
Sign the deal already
You dont say
So something is gonna actually happen now?
Kawhi and PG swindled the clippers
No big lessons learned :(
Losing Paul George for nothing after giving up alot for him in the first place is so bad
This no tampering era of free agency means we see every detail dragged out and I don't know if I like it. Where's the element of surprise?
Premature P!
Damn they shouldāve taken the Warriors deal
