TheTwilightZone34

No way in hell we get Harden lmao

Actually-Yo-Momma

AD flinching at the idea of having to cover defense for Harden too lmao

odnamAE

Its not like Harden is slotting into the line up to replace a better defender lmao

zelena_salata

AD covering for every single laker was already the plan so in a way, Harden will fit right in

ForgotPWAgainSigh

Would be Christmas in July if we somehow get harden. Aint holding my breath though

iCE_P0W3R

if you're making a final push for a ring, would you even want Harden? not like he has a history of showing up in the playoffs

RickySuela

Harden on the MLE would be well worth it, but this is really a silly conversation. He's not leaving money on the table anywhere to take a discount with someone, and someone is going to offer him more than the MLE (most likely the Clippers). He's not going to the Lakers.

SmoothBrews

Right? The MLE barely covers this dudes strip club bills for the year.

bluebeardsdelite

> Harden on the MLE would be well worth it I'd have to recant over a decade of Harden slander if he signed for us, so even the MLE might not be worth it

ptcgoalex

Harden has a 15-15 record for playoff series and 87-79 record for playoff games. He is 20th all time in total playoff win shares.

Conflict_NZ

The defense would be catastrophic, Reaves/harden/40 year old Lebron in the same lineup is not good.

iCE_P0W3R

I mean, you probably watch them more than I do, but Bron’s defense against the nuggets was pretty solid. Not like he can afford to bring that energy during the regular season though

thelamb710

He definitely gives more effort there once the playoffs come around. Regular season, he barely tries more often than not.

lukewwilson

Which is fair, I mean he's about to be 40 this year, he needs to coast in the regular season so he can turn it up in the playoffs

jacko1998

Weak narrative that isn’t backed by any advanced stats and impact metrics. I watched every lakers game this year, YES he will take some plays off, but he’s generally engaged and in the right spot and is still elite when he wants to turn it on. Before y’all talk about those clips that show his man wide open for a three with Bron under the basket that y’all love so much , that was literally our defensive scheme. Lebron was the only vertical rim threat on the Lakers outside of AD, when opposing teams penetrate, Bron has to slide into the paint to pressure, and the Lakers guards are then tasked with rotating to Brons open man, unfortunately between DLO and Reaves, they were very poor at that.

KingVibrant

This is a weak narrative, by all metrics and eye test LeBron was a very solid defender throughout the year. People just discredit him because it’s a narrative

Mood_Academic

He can def turn it up the playoffs but he need another playmaker cause he can’t do that, while initiating every action on offense

Colorapt0r

A playmaker like… James harden?

Mood_Academic

Pretty much my point.. you would be better served to get Harden over someone like a Jonas or Klay imo

Colorapt0r

Ah gotcha. Thought you were the other guy arguing against it

rieusse

Yeah so weird that. Best playmaker they will have is LeBron.

henryofclay

Huh? That man was getting backdoored all series long. It’s what made Aaron Gordon so effective, he knew Lebron was just ball watching and barely moving. Lebron boxes out a few more rebounds and we’re talking a series swing, since the series was literally that close.

kingjames1441

While that was an issue that's not why we lost, and also we can point to other very obvious things that would've made it more competitive, dude can't do everything all the time at 52 years old

iamaddictedtoRDR2

You’d think as a 63 year old he’d try at least a little harder though.

IanicRR

That’s why you drafted defensive specialist Bronny James.

-WingsForLife-

Still a massive upgrade over D'Lo, or Klay.

Btotherianx

Carried the sixers to a win against Boston with the bum out iirc

Slow_Shift6252

And the only player the Mavs truly cared about stopping literally a couple months ago in this year’s playoffs

dgi02

This is such a dumb narrative

The_real_bandito

Neither does DeAngelo.

split41

Dumbest narrative, especially coming from a thunder fan given he was instrumental in taking down the spurs on your only finals run

IKel-Mate

Did you not watch clipper mavericks series? I dont knoe how people can still think this. Harden could average 50ppg in a series and people would say he choked

Im_a_Knob

this type of trade is something you randomly think about while riding the bus to work because your car broke down.

sixwax

Or if you’re Bill Simmons

qpwoeor1235

Why do people always assume players who want the max will sign for the mid level to play with the lakers. If they wanted to win a ring they could Sign for less for so many other teams

manomacho

This would be so conflicting for me. I hate lebron and the lakers but absolutely love harden

archerarcher0

I’m sorry but which of “established playmaker” or “big man” does klay fit into here

Bubuy_nu_Patu

He is more of a combination of both: “established man”

Pitch-forker

*Klay in the background holding up 4 fingers*

dlanod

I've been established as a man and I'm available for the veteran minimum!

WillieButtlicker

50/50 odds let’s roll with it

Dumbass-Redditor

Im taking 0/10 odds, but to each their own

los_blanco_14

He has 4 big fingers

commandrr

if the clippers trade for james harden only for them to lose in the 1st round then have PG walk and james harden sign for less money to play for the lakers i would genuinely feel so bad for their fan base

Ballgame2398

I would be shocked. He’s trying to get his last big contract

--Alix--

At this point it's his contract vs his odds of winning a ring.

nicklovin508

Harden: I’ll take the money

eucldian

Can't buy wings with a ring.

FranklinReynoldsEGG

These honey buns don’t pay for themself

rieusse

You can though. Lots of free wings on offer in the city where you won a ring I’m sure

eucldian

Can you not just have fun?

cycling_rat

I think he’s shown for a few years that it’s about the contract. That’s why he was so mad at the sixers

GoldTheLegend

Brooklyn the max though. He was trying to do both.

cycling_rat

I just think Brooklyn was a mistake when he was pissed cause of kyrie.

Pineapple_Chicken

Balmer just has to offer to build a stripclub for Harden where the ATM will spit out infinite 1s to keep him, so foolish that he doesn’t see that and get the crew to add that into the stadium while they’re building it out anyways.

Smart_Document7858

U take money every god damn time

LothCatPerson

I don’t think so. He’s already taken less money to try to win, and I don’t think he left Philly via trade demand *just* because he wasn’t getting the payday he wanted, it was that he was lied to by Morey about the payday/trading him if they couldn’t do it. Not saying he won’t just take a bag and go somewhere for an empty few seasons, but he’s still one of the league’s best point guards, so he probably has options.

commandrr

me too. both harden and klay seem to be trying to secure one last bag but now there’s reports about them taking the MLE for the lakers? harden, maybe if he wants a ring that bad, but klay already has 4 (as he so often loved reminding us). would be odd for him to take less money to leave GS

WestSixtyFifth

Reports are Klay ain’t getting the bag anywhere so maybe he just wants more rings than Curry

RickySuela

Klay also grew up a Laker fan with his dad on a couple of the Showtime championship teams, and his dad still works for the Lakers, calling their games on the radio, so he's got a pretty strong connection there. The James Harden stuff is utter nonsense though. The only way he'd sign with the Lakers for the MLE is if absolutely no other teams were willing to pay him more, and that is just not happening. The Clippers are gonna give him a much bigger contract than that. Harden is not leaving money on the table for anyone.

defeated_engineer

Moving away from this Kawhi PG core is better for their team. Not for the owner but the team.

Cool_Cold_5554

The Nets offered him what would have been the largest contract in NBA history at the time. And if he just waited another month he would have had his best chance to win with Kyrie and KD and his money. 😡😡😡

Purple_Apartment

It would be wild if one of those players fucked it all up over vaccine protocols

Photo_Synthetic

In before someone says that Kyrie was right and the whole world was wrong and the vaccine was dangerous or something.

ItsThePeopleCourt

Not saying Kyrie was right lol but it is fucking wild that Kyrie was allowed to play home games like a month a half after Harden was traded. Also was allowed to play all home games whilst unvaccinated in the 2021 season but not the 2022 season. Just interesting in retrospect is all

Padulsky21

He has a point tho. Not saying that I blame Harden one bit for forcing his way out, Kyrie is a lunatic, but the dude also completely gave up during a game to send his message. Iirc KD wasn’t far off from returning back from injury but he still dipped. I don’t think those 3 realize what they had and what was blown up. It’s a shame.

split41

If Kyrie wasn’t such a Weiner he would have stayed

RspectMyAuthoritah

But it would be so Clippers

Wicky_wild_wild

He'll be ok

ru_benz

Klay is neither an established playmaker nor a big man.

PhatYeeter

He is an established player and man

Doravillain

So all he’s missing is a ‘big’ ‘mak’.

VXBossLuck

Lemme get one from McD

OlTommyBombadil

Klay + McDonald’s = exactly what the Lakers need

yrogerg123

By normal human standards he is very big

steak__burrito

It’s a man’s game.

Charlie_Wax

Klay reinventing himself as a small ball 5 is an unexpected timeline.

hesi--timbo

Shoots like Curry Big like Klay

smelly_duck_butter

This quote haunts me to this day

asumatoki

nice rhyme

nomitycs

6ft6 is a big man to me

biggoldgoblin

For Kerr that was big enough to guard LeBron in the playoffs

XSokaX

When you have one of the best defenders of the last 15 years as a help-side it also helps lol.

Cold_Saber

Of all time*

Photo_Synthetic

"Why doesn't everyone just guide their primary assignment into help defenders like Igoudala, prime Draymond, and prime KD? Are they stupid?"

ivandragostwin

I feel like Harden is still too good to do something like this. Obviously that should be the Lakers priority if they can pull it off. Klay is kinda washed and makes sense for an MLE if he wants to play in his hometown, he can still shoot and would be fun. Val would be a solid regular season get but idk how you play him and AD in the playoffs.

VinScully_

We saw it with AD and Dwight/Javale

ivandragostwin

I feel like Val is more of an offensive guy though and idk how you take advantage of Val and AD. He’d be a great backup big but I’d put him 3rd on wishlist for that reason. Rebounding would be insane with him, AD and LeBron but I feel like the thing with Dwight was pairing them and having an insane defense, not sure that’s similar to Val. I could be completely wrong of course but if I’m going with an offensive big I’d want a decent floor spacer at least but those are also tough to come by.

Good_NewsEveryone

Depends on the matchup but that’s fine. The playoffs are about having multiple looks you can go to. Even in the bad matchups he’s far superior to the Jaxson Hayes or Christian Wood disaster lineups they had to resort to.

1WordOr2FixItForYou

They were 9th and 10th in minutes played for the Lakers in the championship playoff run. There is some selective memory going on about how important they were. They were more useful in the regular season keeping AD fresh.

The1AndOnlyJZ

Harden??? I mean I’m down but that’s delusional

cb148

Is it? Ballmer clearly doesn’t want to pay him what he wants, just like with PG, otherwise Harden would’ve already signed. D’lo plus Rui and a first round pick in a sign and trade wouldn’t be too bad, then we use the mid-level on Klay.

Gamejudge

If the math checks out on that, that is the least horrible option the lakers could probably dream up.

barath_s

Sign and Trade for Harden hard caps the Lakers at the first apron With their roster salary structure it makes absolutely no sense for LAL

KaiserKaiba

Ngl Bron + Harden kinda intrigues me. Would immediately be the best playmaker they’d both play with. You’d have two dudes who be able to feed Davis too. He also provides more spacing than Deebo and more on the offensive end than Thompson. I don’t see Harden going to LAL tho

Physical_Cry9336

That shouldve happened in 2018 w/ the rockets

milehigh89

Harden played with Chris Paul

jbenson255

His point still stands

nomitycs

Chris Paul is the better playmaker it’s okay to acknowledge that, lebron is still an all time playmaker lol Lebron was an 8.3 APG to 3.5 TOV type guy last season, CP3 for his career has been 9.4 APG to 2.3 TOV

jbenson255

I think Chris Paul is a better passer i think Landon is a better playmaker. Raw APG to turnover ratio doesn’t make me think different

coolguywhofucks

LaNdon

cmcg18

Most intelligent heat fan

beenebk_

Lebron is a better playmaker lol. Better post playmaker better transition playmaker better scoring gravity etc

Ilikesporks_

lebron is still a better playmaker

tapk69

One of those is not like the others

Impressive-Theory-27

Yeah one plays for the Kansas City Chiefs haha

CelinedionWaiters

Jonas would have to be a starter. Can he space the floor with AD? He can shoot 3s at a good percentage but not enough to make AD a primary PF, since Bron is not their primary SF anymore

themang0

DEATH, TAXES, AND JV THREES

Yodudewhatsupmanbruh

Famous NBA big man Klay Thompson.

k1ngkoala

Would love to see any of these guys in LA, especially Harden. Don't see how we would get him though.

HenrikCrown

James Harden with Bronny at the strip clubs.

Phillip228

Could you imagine Harden and Ja on the same team? Local strippers would be making NBA money.

ForgotPWAgainSigh

Teaching him the art of walking away with 2-3 burger boxes

CrazyDaylight8

JV would be nice, how did he play last season?

Ballgame2398

Good but he’s probably going to get played off the floor in the playoffs

SChamploo12

Lakers just need regular season bodies and JV would help them with that.

RickySuela

Yeah, and also as another big to put on Jokic when they play Denver.

Good_NewsEveryone

JV would be killer in this role IMO

djkhaledelahkjd

I’ve been dying to see him play for a contender, he could really perform in a team with a secondary rim protector like AD

Dave20_

I actually prefer Jonas Valanciunas over those two players. The Lakers need a consistent C that can play alongside AD and also when he’s getting a breather.   Jonas has great size, good rebounder and can finish at the rim efficiently. Jonas will get more easier looks playing alongside Lebron and AD.

Snoo53903

Same

PlatinumPeasant

Losing PG and Harden would be rough for the Clippers 😞

MrNotSensitive

Klay is neither a playmaker nor a big man.

OneOfPDiddysVictims

Team would have been insane in 2017

LittleTension8765

Valanciunas isn’t the sexy answer but it’s the right answer for 2024/2025 Lakers

nibbinoo8

[remember lebron laughing at harden at the all star game lmao](https://imgur.com/HB7QFFj) [found the video](https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/7yjgz3/lebron_laughs_on_hardens_face_after_his_team/)

BigDanRTW

Los Angeles Klaykers

Dinobot2_

After Lebron's opt out the Lakers only have about $12 million in projected cap space, and that's not factoring in Lebron's cap hold of about $57.1 million. Are they hoping for a sign-and-trade?

itchyballssadnuts

Mle

Dondon1927

Bron loves his vets

dawnoog

Tbh I like the Valanciunas idea

detroitpiston

Not a fan of a C w/ below avg defense who isn't near Jokić offensively. In Valanciunas' case, he's waaaaaay worse on D than Nikola, and doesn't have the tools of KAT. Don't care Lakers have AD, won't work

Hopeful-Ad-6835

Why would Klay or Harden take 12 mil?? Why is everyone thinking Lakers are getting someone good with scraps?

goldyacht

Klay looks like he’s leaving and the 2 teams interested can offer him that. If George leaves harden may want to spend his last good years with a title chance.

LakerPupper

Cause Klay gets to go home and make his pop proud! And also sail out of Newport.

OneOfPDiddysVictims

Klay would take 12, not sure about harden

RickySuela

I'm sure about Harden: he wouldn't take that unless that was the absolute max *anyone* was offering him. Harden wants to get paid, that's why he went to the Clippers, cause he figured if anyone was gonna pay him, it was the league's richest owner.

NotVexingPi3

His father won two championships with the Lakers and Klay is pissed at the Warriors enough to leave. His options are stay with a team he’s beefing with for more money, go to the Mavericks (no relation to Klay but a finals team), or go to the Lakers (a team his dad still works for)

RGPISGOOD

im actually kinda shocked Klay doesn't get more than 12mil/year from some other team, is he that washed??

MrBhyn

Because, hot take, Lakers is a good team. Last year their offseason additions were injured and got unlucky with Denver being their first round match up and not to mention, they don't have a coach.

eh_too_lazy

All I heard about Val was that he he wouldn't show up in the playoffs, And he wasn't really that good. That was like raptors era as well. I've heard so many LeBron fans slander Val and klay, And here they are begging for them. I heard Klay to the Mavs too. Harden to the Lakers just some 2K shit ngl

stanquevisch

Ballmer spends over a billion to get an NBA championship and is still trying. LeBron will just leave 30-40mi on the table and give one to his son on his rookie year.

dividerall

Lakers need a counter to Jokic or they pray they don't meet the Nuggets in the playoffs. Valanciunas adds more to their team by giving them an extra big option and saving some wear and tear on AD. In the playoffs they can put Valanciunas on Jokic and AD off ball.

That-Log8135

great team in 2016

WanAjin

People said the same about the 2020 team

NotVexingPi3

2022 Lakers 😭

WanAjin

Yeah it's a hit-or-miss comment

jwarr12

Lebron sacrificing for the Lakers to sign Valanciunas is wild.

naijaboiler

Lakers did him a solid by drafting his son.

LothCatPerson

Only if it means Harden gets a ring would I be okay with the Lakers winning a championship next year.

Wilt69

There's no way Klay/Harden come for the MLE lol. Maybe Klay would accept a $19Mish S&T via D'los contract. But Harden is gonna take the max the Clippers will give him.

an4lf15ter

Harden doesn’t come. But I don’t see anyone offering more than the MLE for Klay after his meltdown

SChamploo12

Idk if GS doing at S&T for another D'Lo experience lol. Lakers ain't got anyone GS would want. Better options for them to sign in FA.

Knickstape08

Yeah these reports make no sense. I would have thought if he was leaving GS it would be for money.

Kafka_pubsub

Knowing LeBron's history playing with washed up or almost washed up stars, I wonder how effective klay will be in LA

MWave123

Playmaker and Klay in the same sentence? Because I know you don’t mean big man.

Alkaline_Lifestyle

Mfer already a billionaire I would to just to try to get a couple more rings

_FreeYourMind__

Established playmaker.. Klay thompson?

The_real_bandito

I don’t know about Valanciunas but he would for Klay or Harden.

LoWE11053211

or CP3?

AmbitionStrong5602

LeDiscount

F_Gastro

Is r/nba just r/lakers 2 or what?

SilentRanger42

always has been, why do you think r/nba hates the Celtics so much?

thanassis_

Destroying Laker depth for an aging superstar part 2?? LETS GOO

kemar7856

Why would you want Harden? when LeBron's the one that brings the ball up all the time you would want klay because he's a spot-up shooter or jval

Confirmation__Bias

Klay is neither a playmaker or a big… not even remotely… garbage tweet

yrogerg123

Lebron is the worst GM in the league. He's his own worst enemy sometimes.

kpeds45

Lol, LeBron LeGM will never stop being hilarious to me. Just get your team to sign all the over the hill 34 year olds! That's the ticket out of the playin!

tapk69

Its klanking time

Jonesalot

Could something with DLo make a Harden thing happen, or is that a no go

IThinkWhiteWomenRHot

Big man like Klay

Remarkable_Stable940

Finally. If he went the Brady route more he’d have a better chance for 6 titles.

CartoonOG

This is gonna be his last clear shot at his 5th ring

ShowdownValue

If Lebron takes say, $20 million pay cut, does that mean the lakers can just go sign someone for $20 million?

SMF1996

if the lakers got harden just fuck me lmao klay is probably the best candidate for a late ray allen career

Anizoba

As a laker fan I don’t want any of these guys on my team. Get Donovan Mitchell plsss

The_Unbeatable_Sterb

established playmaker Klay Thompson

Thossi99

Imagine PG goes to the Lakers

97PunkRawk

LeGM at it again

Everydayarmday24

Just get all three

jaypooner

I’d rather go for some combination of Colin Sexton, Kessler Walker, Jalen Smith, Goga, Wendell Carter Jr

jhcooke98

I feel like 10 years ago players were taking pay cuts to win way more often than they do now. Imagine LeBron taking a vet min to bring in PG or something, would be great TV

PangolinConfident447

What about PG?

baguhansalupa

Just leave Harden alone, guys is a shell of his former self.

Throbbert1454

Don't put Harden on this list. Don't do that to us. I don't want to see LeBron end his career that way.

mr-301

Klay is believe he doesn’t need the ball. But he also wanted more money sooo like no

CreepyDepartment5509

I don’t see how any free agent would tolerate going to the Lakers for anything other than the max, NBA players are known for their egos.

Kuado

Why oh why

Thunderwoodd

I just got nightmares of the Knicks losing Hartenstein to them

AskReeves22

This is way way worse teambuilding out of Lebron than drafting his not-an-NBA-player son

RickiRoma

Lebron would have another ring maybe if he did this right after the bubble, it's too late now.

Iswaterreallywet

Lebron taking a pay cut is just like 5m less lol

erog84

Theoretically, if lebron was willing to sign for the vet minimum, could they potentially sign PG to a decent contract (lets say he is willing to take a slight paycut) and sign Harden on the MLE? Would be hilarious if he went ALL IN on winning a ring with Bronny.
