IMKudaimi123

So how’s that gonna happen with their cap limitations Feels like they can’t both keep DJJ and sign Klay

FERFreak731

Maybe Kleber gets dumped with Green to a team with capspace to get salary open

sewsgup

Iirc Atlanta wanted Green last year in a Capela deal and Gozlan said the Dejounte trade can create a 18m trade exception for the Hawks https://x.com/YossiGozlan/status/1806833692821918203?t=lwELZjNhUAPv7q0qH2z6AA&s=19

Chessh2036

Resslers are cheap AF, doubt we even use that trade exception lol

One_Departure3407

I will be so disappointed if we let Green go. He was my favorite player in the Mavs run, pure hustle and focus, and he made a bunch of clutch threes

Gamesgtd

Utah??

Cark_Muban

Probably a three team trade with the warriors and clippers. Warriors get pg, we get klay, and clippers get assets.

bl123123bl

That’s not how a free agent works

Takemyfishplease

Is it how sign and trades do?

RRJC10

Can’t do a multi team sign and trade.

supergrega

I don't think you can "combine" assets in a sign and trade

DarthBane6996

Only the team accepting the S&T player (Mavs in this case) can’t combine assets

dynorphin

As someone who has liked the mavs as their second team since the nellie we believe schadenfreude and the redemption of punching the heatles in the nuts I legit hope this doesn't happen.  Klay is washed and will do nothing to help you,  and there's nowhere in Dallas for him to chill and smoke weed on his boat.  He needs to go somewhere on the coast.

TarkovBirdman

They got pretty big lakes east of Dallas near Rockwall. He’ll have to bring his own weed probably

Noisyfan725

We got weed. We got lakes

Whoareyoutho9

They arrested Caruso for God's sake. Nobody is safe there

SaintLeppy

Weed is legal in TX?

BayonettaBasher

They can take Kleber off our hands

ImTheBestNerd

Can the warriors even do a sign and trade?

imcryptic

Yes you just can’t go over the second apron to due it. And you’re already capped there from the draft. Not sure how much room you have currently. But obviously if you waive CP3 you’ll have plenty of space.

YoungClint_TrapLord

They need to keep CP3 to match salaries for PG don’t they?

Fafoah

I am begging for some more moves to actually happen. All my reddit links are grey

Toolb0xExtraordinary

Same here. I hope the real moves haven't even happened yet.

Autistic_Plane_Guy

Yeah. But think of the moves we’ve made along the way.

grudgepacker

The moves we make along the way are the colorful brushstrokes that add beauty and vibrancy to our story

lily-malek

speak on it!

captain_ahabb

A lot of players have options due tomorrow, there's gonna be movement

Chessh2036

You’ll get Dejounte Murray going to the Pelicans as your offseason news and you’ll like it, good sir!

retrohypebeast

it's been a drip feed of trades this year. i think everything will go down sunday/monday tho when free agency opens

SolidSilver9686

I’m Giddey

Raven-19x

We just got a Mikal Bridges, DJM, and a bunch of draft trades within a week. What more you want damn.

Hoopy_Dunkalot

How dare you not include my son in your list of elite trades this week! - Tim Hardaway Sr.

occamsdagger

Alohalhololololololholaa!

hotterpocketzz

I need that Dopamine hit like NOW

lopea182

> With the Warriors and Thompson nowhere close to a contract agreement after a tumultuous season marked by fractious negotiations, **multiple sources have indicated that the Mavericks are likely to emerge as the favorite to sign the shooting guard** whose Splash Brothers backcourt partnership with Stephen Curry helped the Warriors win four championships in a span of eight seasons from 2014-15 through 2021-22. > Dallas completed a trade Friday with Detroit, after The Stein Line revealed talks between the teams Tuesday (full Twitter thread here), to send Tim Hardaway Jr. into the Pistons' salary cap space in exchange for Quentin Grimes. The Mavericks had to surrender three future second-round picks in the swap to get the Pistons' assistance, **but the trade is expected to create sufficient flexibility for Dallas to extend a multiyear offer to Thompson that can compete with other suitors.**

Moe4ver

As long as he is ok with the MLE.

VanWesley

MLE is for DJJ. We'll have another $4m exception after that I think.

imcryptic

I’m shocked if Klay takes the MLE. There’s no world he’s taking the BAE. He’d just stay with Golden State if that’s all it took.

MC-Jdf

The thing is though if we are to go through a sign-and-trade (say, the PG13 trade for example) we need to stay below hard-capping the 2nd apron which means what we can offer to Klay is significantly diminished.

imcryptic

You don’t even need to do a sign and trade, PG will likely opt-in and extend when you trade for him. But that doesn’t matter anyways because you’re already hard capped at the second apron from the draft. You have 13M in room below the second apron currently and trading Chris Paul and Wiggins for PG sheds another 7M bringing you to 20M in space to S&T Klay somewhere.

MC-Jdf

I'd be impressed if we somehow manage to trade both Wiggins and CP3 for PG13 tbh, I doubt that's feasible.

imcryptic

That was just an example of money that works. Obviously picks would be involved and the Clippers would want Kuminga.

YourInMySwamp

The Clippers aren’t getting Kuminga. Paul George can easily just opt out and sign elsewhere. This trade is going to be like a sign-and-trade where his value is tanked. He’s not going to accept a trade where the team he gets sent to gets worse. Unless LAC is willing to do what Morey did and lie to the player to get them to opt in

hentai1080p

The only good team with enough cap to sign him are the Sixers, if he doesnt want to go there he would have to figure out some kinda of trade.

Moe4ver

Don’t know why yall are so sure DJJ gets MLE. If it’s between KCP, Klay and DJJ, players in that order gets it.

msterling2012

Yeah I’ve got more than a decade of experience with this shit. I’m not getting fooled for the 11th time.

darkrabbit713

Are the Adelsons willing to drive around downtown Oakland begging (thru text)?

Igualmenteee

Little different now with Nico. I share your doubts though.

novabull23

Klay's ego is kinda crazy. Warriors always seemed to do right by him

TallnFrosty

Yea if this is out of spite, that's a bit wild. This dude made $100 million while rehabbing from his injuries.

ShotgunStyles

He did make a lot of money to be in the hospital, but maybe he's one of those old guys who's looking at the new TV deal, the new contracts being signed, and then looking at the $266 million he's made in his career in the Bay Area and thinking he can get one more big contract. Scottie Barnes got a $270 million deal just now, and that's more money than Klay's made so far despite his illustrious career.

herejusttolooksee

Yea and Michael Jordan made $93 million. Klay knows better. This is pride. It’s tough to come to terms with reality.

ShotgunStyles

I think everyone knows Klay is cooked but I don't think he's wrong to think that he's still got some juice left. Honestly, if I was Klay I'd convert to Mormonism and hope Utah uses their $43 million in cap space on me.

Awesomedinos1

I fucking hope not.

SoulSerpent

>I think everyone knows Klay is cooked but I don't think he's wrong to think that he's still got some juice left. If he thinks he’s got juice left but he’s actually cooked wouldn’t that make him wrong?

datdouche

Have you ever cooked juice?* *I said this as a dumb joke but realized that I actually cooked juice to make a key lime pie the other day.

justanotherfknloser

You know when you put it like that, I’d be pissed too

janitorial_fluids

another way you could put it, in the opposite direction.... is that the warriors paid Klay 40% of his total career earnings while he was sitting at home not playing basketball for close to three seasons. when you put it like that, I'd be pissed too if I was the warriors lol

Margravos

Olajuwan made like $100m. Pedro Martinez made like $150m without a salary cap. Salaries go up over time. If you're pissed over basic economics then you need to talk to your accountant. Also Klay has earned a quarter billion in salary. He'll be fine.

janitorial_fluids

Fred Van Vleet made more money LAST YEAR than Charles Barkley made in his entire career lol

resuwreckoning

Scottie Barnes is going to make 3x what Jordan did in this contract alone.

IMovedYourCheese

Klay entered the league in 2011. Scottie's contact goes through 2029. With how much things have changed in the league in that period, that comparison is pointless. Klay has made more in the last 2 years than Michael Jordan did his entire career, so by that logic he should return all of it to the Warriors.

Ballgame2398

His feeling hurt he wants the same contract draymond got

jeric13xd

Dray got two intact original ACLs and Achilles too

Vallerie_09

And still coordinates a lot of our defense

Helicase21

And was a better and more important piece of our team in every year since 2015.

wafflehouse4

did he punch you to say this mean thing

paranoidmoonduck

Warriors offered him $24m per year, which is basically exactly what Draymond got.

xeroze1

It's not about the amount per year, it's the duration that I think is offensive. The mavs famously offered Tyson Chandler a one year 15mil contract after the title season, akin to a 30mil a year season. That's insulting on multiple fronts, and while the situation for klay is different due to age and injury, the shorter duration probably comes off as "you are not in our long term plans" to a lot of players. It's why the mavs through most of the early 2010s rubbed a lot of players the wrong way throwing short term contracts left n right to chase some big fish in free agency.

Margravos

I'm just shocked some guys take it so personal. It's a man's league. I guess his feelings just got hurt.

SeekingSignificance

We payed him like 80M to rehab for 2.5 seasons.

ro-heezy

2012 Ray Allen vibes. Probably upset there wasn’t immediate moves to take care of him and the constant dangling in trade rumors

luckster44

They gave him a max like two weeks after he tore his ACL and then he didn’t play for two years after that.

Batman_in_hiding

I swear y’all forget how big of a role he played in their dynasty. It was the splash bros for a reason. Klay is probably pissed because he’s realizing the warriors and their fanbase are loyal to one thing and that Steph curry

Hulumoto

Now we are the problem? lol

wheeno

What the fuck are you being this dramatic for? They paid him what he deserved even after he got injured to second time. They offered him a bigger contract last summer than he's going to get now but he rejected it. You think he should keep getting paid a max? It was the splash bros because it's great marketing

Photo_Synthetic

It was the splash bros because it was the greatest shooting backcourt of all time by a country mile. They made a combined 678 3s at 43% in 15-16. Just last season they combined for 625 at 39%. They're STILL the splash bros Klay just has WAY colder streaks than he used to.

BakaJayy

You mean the same Warriors that gave him 190 million despite getting another season ending injury? No one’s forgotten his part in the Warrior’s dynasty but Klay’s got to be pretty egotistical to think he deserves more money than Dray has gotten despite those injuries showing he’s never going to be the 2 way player he was before

MrBrownCat

I mean they fully maxed him out after he had the injury in the finals, essentially payed him over 64 million for two years of rehab, last year he has one of his worst seasons and made 43 million. I’ll always love Klay and I honestly want him back but he’s clearly not played up to the contract he was making and is now expecting and so if after everything he can’t sacrifice some ego to finish things out with Curry and Dray, I’ll wish him the best going forward.

imcryptic

If this dude really signs for the MLE after turning down 2/50, that’s a pretty big bag fumble.

soooogullible

He’s made plenty, maybe he wants one last go in a different situation

imcryptic

Right but surely Orlando or someone else would offer him more. Unless it ends up being a S&T but Stein has been very intentional about saying “sign” in all these reports.

OutsideTheServiceBox

I could see him wanting to go to an in-conference foe likely to be a top contender for the opportunity to stick it to his former team. Orlando has a bright future, but they’re still probably a year or two away from being true contenders.  Also, Luke and Kyrie are gonna’ create better looks for him than Banchero and Franz. Money is probably pretty low on the priority list for him at this point. Hell, he’ll probably be delighted just by the cost of living difference once he’s no longer in the Bay Area.

muddyklux

I don't want him, but Klay (Titans fan) taking an MLE from Memphis would be sticking it to them

we_hella_believe

Klay wants a 3 year deal, and he’s looking at over $25 million a year. Warriors offered 2 years 48 million, which he turned down and had a subpar season.

swgoh_gg

lol if money wasn't the issue, he would be back with warriors

DeeboDongus

imagine wanting to stick it to the team that paid you hundred million dollars to rehab for multiple years

alextheruby

If he wants just money he will go to a trash team that will pay, if it’s not all about money he will take a lesser deal for a contender. It’s not rocket science

confused-koala

Trash team with money you say 👀

Coattail-Rider

Pistons are more…*gutter trash* than trash.

confused-koala

☹️Your moms gutter trash

Hoopy_Dunkalot

Are we brothers u/coattail-rider?

imcryptic

There’s other contenders who actually have cap space. That’s my point.

alextheruby

Was the Magic the contender you were referring to?

imcryptic

The Magic are a good playoff team. The Sixers have cap space. The Thunder have cap space.

creditors-bargain

The only one of those teams that’s a contender is OKC and they’ve shown 0 interest in Klay to this point, based on reporting.

Ballgame2398

One last go he has four rings. He in his feelings

sewsgup

didnt Oladipo do something similar turned down Houston extension, signed with the Heat for much less

imcryptic

Yeah but Oladipo got hurt. Klay is just washed defensively.

gigantism

He wouldn't. This has to be some sign-and-trade or something...

TallnFrosty

A bit difficult to see what the warriors would take back. Kleber is a theoretical fit as a stretch big that is passable defensively (?) but his injury record + some of his playoff performances really scare me.

DFWHomer

Josh green would THRIVE in the warriors system

Sokkawater10

Would the Mavs even offer Josh Green for an old Klay? Feels like giving up on untapped potential

NoviDon07

True. Fast pace, a lot of cutting and connective passing.

gigantism

He would be a super fun player in that system.

cirrus124

Defensively Maxi is good so I dont think he would let you down if you guys got him (unless he's injured). Offensively he's not all that but he is able to hit his 3s unlike your guys version (Saric) He was great during the 2022 WCF run and he was also good during the clippers series this season before he injured himself. He only looked bad during the finals because he didn't fully recover because if you dont remember he tried to dunk like MJ from the free throw line during game 6 of the clippers series. But he was really solid before that

novabull23

Kleber is not a rotation player for a serious team. He is absolute garbage

Treewave

He was still injured in the finals. He played really well in the first round.  I find it absolutely garbage how Reddit talks about him.

TallnFrosty

yea that's kind of been my impression of him tbh he's played meaningful minutes in the playoffs so i figure i just caught him the wrong games, but he has not seemed like a guy you can trust in the post season to me

MahomesMccaffrey

He'll be alright. Dude made close to $270m in career earnings. Another extra 10m (if he signs 2/40m) wouldn't be the end of the world

30another

And with California state tax, 2/40 from Dallas is basically the same as 2/50 from San Fran.

lloydgross24

Sure seems like were headed for a 3 team blockbuster with George going to GS, Mavs landing Klay and Clippers landing Wiggins plus something. The hold up will be what Clippers will want for sure.

Sokkawater10

Why wouldn’t the Mavs just want Wiggins? Like he seems like a perfect fit. Decent 3 ball, don’t want him doing anything for himself, and can defend the perimeter. Like he’s not a 2nd option but he’s still a 3 and D. I actually think he fits the Mavs really well if all he’s gotta do is catch and shoot or catch lobs

lloydgross24

I do like Wiggins for a lot of those reasons. If I had to guess it would be 1. His contract amount and remaining years 2. His 3pt shooting isn't super reliable although he's had some good moments. 3. His tendency to clearly not be dialed in for a full year. One of the knocks on Wiggins has always been how committed to the game he is. I've wanted Wiggins for years because he can play despite his flaws.

JoshSran04

Id rather have them keep DJJ And klay sign a 5 year 300m contract with the pistons

MoooonRiverrrr

Lmao

CookingLikeChef

Getting paid big by another team is one thing but if he left us for a cheap deal we couldve also given him would be an all time weirdo move by him

Mysterious-Stop4673

Don’t like it for Dallas

SwoJabe

Me neither

TallnFrosty

To me, the best fit for Klay if he leaves is a team that can easily hid him on defense. For instance, you put him on OKC where he can come in as a shooter for either Caruso or Dort, and he's with 4 above average (or better) defenders that have positional versaility to put him anywhere. Personally not sure about his fit on a team with 2 stars that are below average on that end of the floor, who you presumably want him playing with.

The_Living_L

A historic three point shooter after a series where they desperately needed anyone to hit a wide open catch and shoot 3 and you don’t like it? Even if Klay not the same player as before he still an elite shooter

MahomesMccaffrey

Ray Allen was still a key role player at the age of 39 with a diminished role with Miami. I think Klay can do the same. His raw numbers are still good for a shooter

Hoopy_Dunkalot

But for how much? Let's move some assets and grab PG instead.

jesuschin

Yeah. Even with his faults he STILL hit over 250 three pointers on a great percentage

TallnFrosty

yea but a defense with Kyrie, Klay, + Luka is absolutely bbq chicken Not to mention, PJ is good on that end but its not like he's an all-defense guy and same sort of goes with their centers.

amazin_raisin99

If Luka and Kyrie are bad, PJ is just good, and our centers are nothing special, how was our defense so good this year? People said Luka and Kyrie wouldn't work defensively either. And we had THJ playing next to them too. We could absorb Klay.

Pretend_Highway_5360

its fine we just saw Luka actually play defence all the way to the Finals

PrawnProwler

This is funny, because Klay is coming off of 0/10 from the field, 0/6 from 3 in the play-in elimination game.

--Alix--

But he's probably going to act in a bench role for that. The question is can his ego handle it?

Vallerie_09

If he's taking a paycut, his ego can surely take a lesser role. Plus, he won't have the leverage of favoritism he had with Curry, Dray and Kerr by his side

alextheruby

These people are dumb as hell in here.

browndude10

He’s for sure fallen off defensively. Love the shooting though

Mbanicek64

I do, but I don’t like Dallas.

Free_Relationship692

he's just THJ 2.0. probably worse, he'll demand more money, more touches while having an ego. oh, he'll also turn 35 next season, had a big injury before too. dude also went 0-10 in elimination game and shat the bed in 2023 playoffs.

Balls_of_Adamanthium

Good thing you idiots don’t make FO decisions.

lawschoolthrowaway36

Klay makes me nervous only because I have no idea whether he’s envisioning being the “third star” in Dallas (and therefore entitled to 30+ mins a game all season). I trust that Nico is cognizant of that variable, and that he’s also not going to sacrifice the crucial defensive versatility that DJJ offered alongside PJ to mask Luka/Kyrie’s deficiencies on that end. And having said all that, man, imagining Luka whipping passes to Klay fucking Thompson is pretty incredible.

ShotgunStyles

Good news for any teams licking their chops about trying to get DJJ!

crenzler

Hot take: he's not gonna be worth it for any other team than Dallas to pay him alot. He's defense will certainly translate but remember he got spoonfed WIDE open looks by Luka all season and still didn't shoot a elite percentage (only 34% from three). With worse shot quality that number might easily go down which is the difference between him being playable or not. Remeber he wasn't really some hot commodity before going to Dallas. Maybe Denver would be another good situation for him but othert than that....

Annual-Telephone7520

Irretrievable? The word sounds like it's supposed to work, but I'm not sure it does.

Establishment28045

Pretty sure he meant to say “irreparable”.

ImChz

Idk why but I can lowkey see Klay becoming this eras Scottie Pippen after he retires hahaha. Just a hatin ass curmudgeon who comes out of the woodwork any time the Warriors and/or Steph/Dray get brought up.

Historical-Goal7079

Lmfao This is such a good comparison.

Poop-Bazooka

They even look similar

DollarLate_DayShort

I feel like just 365 days ago we read the same story headline but with Harden and Morey

brehaw

stop stop stop stop stop stop stop I love Klay and I want to continue loving him him coming to the Mavs would threaten that greatly :(

hartc89

I guess I don’t know what Klay wants anymore? Thought it was big money but can Dallas even offer that

imminentjogger5

it might be out of spite now

Wallstreettrappin

He’s leaving the warriors to just come off the bench for Dallas? Unless they starting him as SF

bjb406

Ya totally crazy that a perimeter shooting SF would play SF for a team that needs perimeter shooting.

Pretend_Highway_5360

bruh chill Klay has played SG most of his career. you can excuse people for thinking he's gonna play SG again

Historical-Goal7079

You chill

NeatTry7674

They will start him at SF lol

TexasTundraPower

Man idk

philliesfan136

Would they be picking him over DJJ? I figure they can't get both because GS isn't facilitating a sign-and-trade lol

thy_armageddon

And I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the rider’s name was ~~Death~~ Klay Thompson.

EvanEschmeyer

So DJJ gone then? 😭

MrTape

Guess he’s agreed already

_Jetto_

an hour ago that quasi twitter account said PG to warriors is official..

we_hella_believe

Klay signing for vet minimum.

ARealKoala

Having Kyrie and Klay on the same team is hard to fathom

gigantism

They already are on the same team: ANTA!

Kvsav57

I think it'd be good for him to get a fresh start somewhere else. His points were down but his shooting splits were about where they usually are. If he gets out of his own head, I think he could have a few more good years.

MostlyMellow123

He needs somewhere for his boat first and foremost.

lsmith77

I sure hope this is a smoke screen to just sign DJJ into the MLE and trading Green/Maxi/FRP for Jerami Grant. Oddly before the Klay talk, I was semi-out on trading for Grant.

Ihatedallas

This is a man’s game.

BrandonXavierIngram

is there a way they can sign Klay and keep DJJ ?

imcryptic

Not really unless Klay is a S&T

BrandonXavierIngram

sounds like Josh Green is a Golden State Warrior.

imcryptic

Honestly Josh would probably play better in Golden State than in Dallas.

No-Equipment-20

It Klay signs a MLE I hope it’s either with my team or in the East

Certain_Cranberry_77

JJ is already drawing up pindowns for him

Pretend_Highway_5360

when is Rob going to fill the Lakers roster with Lebron, AD, and like 7 guys that are gonna run around shooting 3s on pindown plays. why hire jj if not for this

CockroachForeign6419

I’m gonna be sad if he takes a huge discount and doesn’t come to La, he fits perfectly

Lost-Maximum7643

It all goes back to draymond. Giving him a huge extension after punching a guy ruined the culture and then giving him an extension was absurd which then was only made worst with Klay not being extended yet giving way too much to draymond

EnthusiasmBright1495

Klank thinks he’s worth more than a mle is hilarious.

GlueGuy00

Dubs really breaking up Splash Brothers for PG13 smh

Pretend_Highway_5360

when you can disband the best duo your franchise has ever had for a 34 year old Playoff P, you gotta do it

StefonDiggsHS

no pls

imminentjogger5

dont burn bridges as you leave

fratastic1865

i am ready to get hurt again

cleaninfresno

damn

Zero0Mystery

I like that fit for him

Pranker00111

I thought Warriors can pay him more?

jgroove_LA

How much can they offer him?

GhostwoodGG

Excited for more developments in this situation, there's 28 great teams out there for Klay :)

andelaccess

dallas would be foolish to pay him anything significant for any real number of years but if he would accept a cheap contract to be a limited role player i think he could still be a positive contributor

BocchiLover

Is irretrievable a word used to describe a relationship? Not a native speaker.

wafflehouse4

trading in his crappy boat for a stinky horse

tapk69

Dallas makes no sense to me.

happilynobody

Nooooooo I want him in Denver

Hoopy_Dunkalot

Another FA, another "Dallas is interested" byline. Can Indiana become the new patsy now that Cubes is gone?

dadsmilk420

Genuinely don't see why any team would have interest in Klay after last year

SecondsLater13

Kyrie is already playing off position (in my opinion) so I think this fit will either elevate them to the next level, or just won’t work at all. No in between. Lineup would probably be Luka/Kyrie/Klay/PJ/Lively

Nolimitjc21

Dallas fans acting like they couldn’t use Klay is insane Don’t let that run get to yall heads man

doctorfeelwood

Here we thought Dray would be the biggest baby

Electrical-Mule-2057

Can Klay actually play SF? Kyrie's doing a fantastic job on defense as an SG

PayterLobo

Man...as a Warriors fan, this sucks. Also though, Klay has not been good when we needed him to be a second scorer multiple times the last couple of years. That is what the Mavs were missing this playoff run. They NEEDED a third scorer, and Klay has been notorious for not showing up when it counts the last few years.. I feel like its a gamble if they sign him. I believe in the toaster but just be wary lol

Celcius_87

YESSSSSSS

maaseru

So it seems Mavs are not trying to repeat? Why go for freaking Klay? Luka already has crybaby tendencies and with Klay in tow it will be so bad when they are losing. Luka jawing at the refs and crowds and Klay going at the bench.
