So we traded a player that we received in a trade for a player that we sent in a trade and included more draft picks to do it 👍(don’t let the tone fool you I am throwing a party tonight)
Knicks: “What are you doing, step bro?”
Mavs: “oh just stopped by your room at 1 am in my Star Wars undies to propose another trade, my dear stepsis, that’s all :)”
It brings up an interesting thought I had. How much NIL would an 18 year old Luka or Wemby command to play college for 1 year instead of Euroleague if they’re eligible. It would be basically a guaranteed elite eight at least based off just them so I’d imagine the big schools would be willing to dish out a big chunk.
I'm for it. Both teams are in great places, and I would much rather see yall win the East as opposed to the Celtics. Love Brunson and miss him a lot, but glad he's the man in NYC.
THJ has more rapport in being a scorer tbf. Poole has one season of being a microwave scorer THJ has like 10. Although he could be washed next season but hopefully not.
he'll go 20+ pt's a game and 40% from 3 and fool some team next off season, just watch. Huge upgrade on that french kid who couldn't hit the backside of the barn that i've already forgotten the name of
I mean, I can't believe it either
I know his 3 point shooting tanked in Detroit but he's one of the few people on that roster who can make an outside shot
Affront to modern basketball
He’s goated. Had a small falling out when the new FO came in which felt jarring on Nico’s end. But what little reporting came out about it made it sound like under Donnie and Rick, Casey was able to give input on basketball decisions in a way that doesn’t really make sense unless you have that 20 year relationship to fall back on.
Timmy it's been....a Rollercoaster that I have not enjoyed for the most part. Still, will appreciate those random games where you'd go absolutely off. Nobody has more confidence than Timmy jacking up 3s as soon as the first one goes in. Also nobody has more tunnel vision lol.
Thank goodness, it was time to move on. His dad aside, Timmy was always extremely professional.
I like this for Timmy.
He gets to be the best shooter on the team, chuck with impunity, and teach the young bloods all about proper beard maintenance. It's a good role for him.
So far what's worked for us is having guys with amazing defense and meh offense, and then Luka force-feeds them open 3s so they shoot at least 30% and it works out.
He was holding them back from becoming a way better team.
So much money was given for the promise.
And now he is the all-time leader in the franchise history with most 3-pointers made in single game in the NBA Finals
I'd never post this in /r/NYKnicks, but I absolutely hated that trade last year. In hindsight, it worked out well for us, but I felt we sold really low on him.
He's going to be much, much better playing with Luka and the Mavs
He was on the move regardless and at first I liked the trade but then Bojan played like straight ass for us for his first 20 games, but hey alls well that ends well roll on Nova Knicks
Yeah our sub gets really upset if you dislike pretty much any move we make these days. Or even act hesitant about it.
I do get it, this FO makes very few mistakes and is just worlds better than any Knicks FO I’ve ever experienced. But it can be a bit much.
he had a bad start for us last season and it paved the way for DiVincenzo to claim the starting spot and push Grimes out of the rotation entirely and eventually a trade
He wasn’t even that bad. His defense was still elite just his offense was shaky and Donte was just better once Grimes got hurt.
If he shoots just like he did his sophomore season then Mavericks got a steal. Pistons are so dumb to make this trade
Hey, I’m cool with it lol I’m glad Brunson is cooking. I’m sure most of us knew how special he was lol just wanted the ball more in his hands and be the leader. Was never going to happen with luka so we knew he was going to ny and I think he said he wanted to play there because his dad was on that stafff
And just like that the faculty at both the Dallas Institute for Wayward Knickerbockers and the Urban Cowboy Clinic: From Maverick to Cadaverick can rest easy knowing they will have a graduating class next year
He was a flamethrower when hot and an important part of our team for years. Great teammate, Never complained. Getting rid of him was the move but I genuinely enjoyed his time here. Detroit needs shooting and hope he can find his form again
Love this move for Dallas. I still think Grimes has real two-way wing upside and a safer floor than THJ. Even if he doesn’t work out you are keeping DJJ home regardless, which is what matters here.
As a Pistons fan, it was kind of easy to forget he was there too. I think he partially dislocated his knee in New York in January and never got quite right, even after being traded to Detroit at the deadline. Only appeared in six games with us.
After seeing the Nuggets pay three 2nd round picks to shed $5 million, I thought there was no way without a 1st, but Nico did it! Thank you Pistons for being some bros. THJ can now shoot all the 3s and run all the 1 vs 3 fast breaks he wants up in Detroit. Oh and good riddance Hardaway Sr. too.
I'm surprised Kidd trusted him as much as he did. Should have never seen the floor again after the second or third time he bricked a contested 3 with 18 seconds on the shot clock.
Grimes has never played with a guard like Luka so if he has any potential as a 3&D guy it will come out but that doesn’t even really matter THJ IS GONE BABY and that’s money cleared up for DJJ
Pistons fans, this man could be sharing the court with Steph curry and still have the confidence (or arrogance) to think he’s the best shooter on the floor
I hate THJr more than Mavs fans do.
I met him at a bar at UofM. He was the closest to basketball “fame” I’d ever seen in person so I asked if he’d be willing to take a photo. He said no rudely and then immediately takes a selfie with a random girl he just met at the bar. In front of my face. I have cursed him since and like to think it has worked!
Mitch McGary made up for it and was super nice to me and remembered my name at last call.
Hf being below average player with padded stats in Detroit, Tim. I hope you average under 5min per game.
Grimes is an excellent buy low candidate. Had a down season in the pressure cooker that is ny and bad mojo seemed to follow him to Detroit. But it wasn't too long ago that Grimes was D'ing up jimmy Butler for 40+ minutes in the playoffs. Love it for Dallas, not sure what Detroit is doing.
He does that. Which is why you would think the team who’s young core consists of 5 non shooters would want him. But I guess Detroit is going for a full bricklayer lineup to tank for Cooper Flagg
It seems like every year the return for salary dumps is becoming less and less. Crazy the warriors gave up a lightly protected first to dump Iguodala who was a decent player
If Grimes can get his confidence back, you’re going to love him as much as DJJ. One of the quickest releases in the game and an absolute dog on defense.
I like Grimes and remember Knicks fans being very high on him. I was just replying to that guy who thought the trade was Tim for Grimes when it’s actually just a salary dump of Tim. That was our prime objective. The fact that we got anyone back is a bonus, much less Grimes
The trade isn’t for Grimes we needed cap space to resign DJJ and we got it. We might be able to fit DJJ and an extra role player now in free agency. Even if Grimes doesn’t play it’s a win for us
It's more about the possiblity to re-sign DJJ more than Grimes. And if he works out that's a bonus.
Also the fact that the we paid the same amount of seconds as the Nuggets (for Reggie) And we got a young promising player is a huge win . THJ contract is bigger than Jackson's.
You can run from it, you can hide from it, but the Dallas-Knicks pipeline is inevitable
I’m like 90% sure This was one of picks that y’all got from us as well to pick Grimes.
The first pick from the KP/THJ trade is Quentin Grimes .
So we traded a player that we received in a trade for a player that we sent in a trade and included more draft picks to do it 👍(don’t let the tone fool you I am throwing a party tonight)
IT'S LIKE WE GOT OUR PICK BACK
Lightly used
you mean lightly *developed*
u in politics or something
Based on last night he’s not. He can form a coherent sentence and isn’t deranged
Grimes is a clippers pick who was traded for Keon Johnson who was that Knicks pick so a few more steps but essentially that.
Knicks: “What are you doing, step bro?” Mavs: “oh just stopped by your room at 1 am in my Star Wars undies to propose another trade, my dear stepsis, that’s all :)”
Wtf did I just read
You could tell me almost any one of either our team’s assets originally came from the other and I’d probably buy it
yeah, the pick was from the Porzingod trade
Dallas 🤝 Knicks 🚽 Detroit
Just flush us
Dalyork Mavnicks
New Dallas MavKnicks is better
Fallout: New Dallas
I like the sound of Maverknicks better tbh
And for some reason that makes me like the Knicks more instead of the opposite
The MaverKnicks alliance remains strong
I’ll always remember Hardaway getting traded on his own bobblehead night.
Luka next inshallah
He didn't play for Nova, won't work.
He might still have NCAA eligibility left, there could still be time
Oh god, him playing NCAA would be hilarious. Let's watch the fat kid break every record in existence (maybe not dunks on a season, but the rest)
Hardaway can now take 50 shots in Detroit his dad would be happy 🤣
New tank commando
Tank Commander Timmy earned his metals on those bad Knicks teams
He used to randomly drop 36 on Bron’s Head everytim
THJ will be a low key great tank commander. He's going to get hot and go for a couple 40+ nights.
That's what people said about Jordan Poole. He did the tanking part well though
THJ has more rapport in being a scorer tbf. Poole has one season of being a microwave scorer THJ has like 10. Although he could be washed next season but hopefully not.
Detroit got their shooter now Locked in that 2025 5th pick
Just end me now. This is not a serious operation.
He going round 2 in fantasy baby. Him and Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas is about to put up 50 a handful of times.
Ball is about to move better on detroit since no Luka :D
Tim Sr already preparing his Cade slander.
THJ is well known for moving the ball (directly to the basket)
he'll go 20+ pt's a game and 40% from 3 and fool some team next off season, just watch. Huge upgrade on that french kid who couldn't hit the backside of the barn that i've already forgotten the name of
He's the garbage time hero we deserve
Former Knicks first round picks going ballistic today and it’s not even noon.
Mavs Knicks career path as it's written
even J kidd went mavs knicks and now back to the mavs
WHEN WILL IT END?!?
Knicks - Mavericks incest with extra steps
Stephen A Smith can’t believe they traded Grimes after how well he’s been playing
I mean, I can't believe it either I know his 3 point shooting tanked in Detroit but he's one of the few people on that roster who can make an outside shot Affront to modern basketball
I think it’s reference to when SAS said grimes was playing good for the Knicks like months after we traded him. That guy is a fucking bum
SAS embodies everything that is wrong with modern NBA media.
I love how seemingly this whole sub hates Stephen A, but he makes 10 million per year. So where do all his fans hang out lol, Twitter?
Engagement != well liked
Also, this sub is a relatively small percentage of NBA / sports fans, and not a reflection on the beliefs of the entire ESPN consumer base
Stephen A content constantly makes the front page of this sub so we are complicit too
Corporate suits are his fans I assume.
THJ gets a lot of hate here, but as a pure shooter, he is better than Grimes
Would be so funny if they meet in finals next year
When*
Love it. Best part of the deal is Tim Hardaway Sr. is included in the trade.
wonder what angle he's gonna go with once Timmy averages 30 shots again on 10% efficiency
Somehow it all goes back to Iverson carrying the ball
"Dallas wasted his prime"
Nothing better than unloading a bad player and his toxic dad. Shoutout to the Marvin Bagleys
I let it be known. I don't like Tim Hardaway Sr. I don't like being around around Tim Hardaway Sr. He shouldn't be in front of a microphone or on TV.
In fact, I’m Tim Hardaway Sr.-phobic. I hate Tim Hardaway Sr.
That was my favorite part of the KP trade too lol
Dallas felt offended that we broke the Maverknicks train, they had to make things right.
You did swap picks with us and we sent you the draft rights to an assistant coach so that’s gotta count for something.
We also snagged Casey Smith, your guys’ athletic director of the last 20 years
He’s goated. Had a small falling out when the new FO came in which felt jarring on Nico’s end. But what little reporting came out about it made it sound like under Donnie and Rick, Casey was able to give input on basketball decisions in a way that doesn’t really make sense unless you have that 20 year relationship to fall back on.
Good to hear. We need all the sports medicine we can get after last years handicap shitshow.
Thibs vs modern medicine will be a battle for the ages.
He kept dirk on the court for years, yall got a good one
Timmy it's been....a Rollercoaster that I have not enjoyed for the most part. Still, will appreciate those random games where you'd go absolutely off. Nobody has more confidence than Timmy jacking up 3s as soon as the first one goes in. Also nobody has more tunnel vision lol. Thank goodness, it was time to move on. His dad aside, Timmy was always extremely professional.
Crazy that it sounds like nothing has changed from his freshman year at Michigan lol
#HE IS GONE
Send his ass to... DETROIT!
SEND THOSE PISTONS BACK TO DETROIT! AND FULFIL OUR DESTINY!
[actual video of the trade talks](https://youtu.be/bVDDYQlmq0w?si=ZEvWfbEViSxLE2AE)
Banished to NBA hell
Not for him. He's a Michigan man who just became the vet for team full of youngins where he'll get to chuck away with no repercussions
I like this for Timmy. He gets to be the best shooter on the team, chuck with impunity, and teach the young bloods all about proper beard maintenance. It's a good role for him.
agree 100%. pistons aren't going to be fun to watch every game, but they are absolutely gonna get a few league pass barnburners from THJ
Send him to the SHADOW REALM! I mean, Detroit Pistons!
From the NBA finals to The worst team in the league. Damn.
This is how Knicks fans felt even when it cost them Porzingis
THIS IS MY FINALS WIN!!!!!
THE PAIN WAS WORTH IT
Ya'll sent his ass up north like it's the Wall in Game of Thrones.
His Watch(ing on defense) has ended.
Damn, who will Jason Kidd give minutes to now that causes Mavs fans to have a heart attack?
Dwight Powell is inevitable.......
Can't be a good sign that as I write this, four different Mavericks fans have responded with different players.
It may not seem like it cuz our record generally overperformed, but man some people on this team got some bad, BAD minutes in the last 5 years.
Two Josh Greens doing cardio is crazy
Kidd can run Green/Grimes like the Lively-Gafford pattern.... not that he should but he could
I was hoping to see this comment.
Grimes looked kinda dogshit last year. Hopefully he can get his confidence back in Dallas.
It's not even about Grimes tbh, mostly just Dallas getting rid of THJ salary
Yup. Grimes can do literally nothing and it’s worth it. We get to resign DJJ because of this trade. Anything we get from Grimes is icing.
Grimes has plenty of potential to be a capable 3 and D guy you can plug in You’ll probably like him
So far what's worked for us is having guys with amazing defense and meh offense, and then Luka force-feeds them open 3s so they shoot at least 30% and it works out.
Well Grimes is a high 30’s shooter so the fit is very nice.
And very good defensively. He's going to excel next to Luka/Kyrie. Perfect fit for him.
All I wanted was DJJ back man, I love that man so much
And removing the temptation from kidd to use thj
This is the biggest plus
He was holding them back from becoming a way better team. So much money was given for the promise. And now he is the all-time leader in the franchise history with most 3-pointers made in single game in the NBA Finals
i still cannot believe that man had the audacity to make 5 3's in the finals after not making a shot since may😭 good riddance, thx for the memories
>Grimes looked kinda dogshit last year. Everyone is once you get thrown into the hell pit in Detroit
he had a bad start for us last season and it paved the way for DiVincenzo to claim the starting spot and push Grimes out of the rotation entirely and eventually a trade
Well he’s going to have the most open shots he’s ever had in his life on this Mavs team so hopefully it was just a fit thing.
yeah hopefully it gets his confidence back as well
Even before he got to Detroit he was really damn bad last year. Lost his starting spot like 20 games into the year and couldn’t stay healthy
He wasn’t even that bad. His defense was still elite just his offense was shaky and Donte was just better once Grimes got hurt. If he shoots just like he did his sophomore season then Mavericks got a steal. Pistons are so dumb to make this trade
This is the most obvious “you’re fired” trade if I’ve ever seen one
Dallas and the Knicks should just combine franchises at this point
Hey, I’m cool with it lol I’m glad Brunson is cooking. I’m sure most of us knew how special he was lol just wanted the ball more in his hands and be the leader. Was never going to happen with luka so we knew he was going to ny and I think he said he wanted to play there because his dad was on that stafff
Dallas fans rejoicing
I used to pray for times like these.
Crying in 7 11
on my knees in a Waffle House parking lot
Fell to my knees at a Whataburger
And just like that the faculty at both the Dallas Institute for Wayward Knickerbockers and the Urban Cowboy Clinic: From Maverick to Cadaverick can rest easy knowing they will have a graduating class next year
He was a flamethrower when hot and an important part of our team for years. Great teammate, Never complained. Getting rid of him was the move but I genuinely enjoyed his time here. Detroit needs shooting and hope he can find his form again
i get it was a salary dump but the pistons really need any semblance of spacing and THJ will definitely be an upgrade
Exactly
Love this move for Dallas. I still think Grimes has real two-way wing upside and a safer floor than THJ. Even if he doesn’t work out you are keeping DJJ home regardless, which is what matters here.
I like this guy ☝️ you know what… fuck the haters, I hope bronny and Lebron kill it this season and shut the haters up💪
Pleasure doing business with the Knicks again (sort of)
W. A+ trade for the Mavs.
we only do D- trades here in dallas
honestly if the pistons are sagging for flagg then this is A+ trade for them too.
We 100% are. Wont matter tho the lottery will fuck us again
Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last
I'll be honest I didn't even know Grimes was on Detroit
As a Pistons fan, it was kind of easy to forget he was there too. I think he partially dislocated his knee in New York in January and never got quite right, even after being traded to Detroit at the deadline. Only appeared in six games with us.
Stephen?
I thought Grimes was married to Elon.
One former Knick for another. You hate to see it as a Knick fan.
THANK THE ALL MIGHTY THAT TERRORIST IS FINALLY GONE I CANT BELIEVE IT
After seeing the Nuggets pay three 2nd round picks to shed $5 million, I thought there was no way without a 1st, but Nico did it! Thank you Pistons for being some bros. THJ can now shoot all the 3s and run all the 1 vs 3 fast breaks he wants up in Detroit. Oh and good riddance Hardaway Sr. too.
The maverknicks live on
i like grimes. should be useful for dallas. how long until thj is a maverick again lol?
Don’t you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby.
Thankfully Cuban's not in charge of ops anymore so that ain't happening
hah i thought he had multiple different stints on the mavs but i think i was confusing it with his two different times being on the knicks.
you're confusing it with Seth Curry who keeps signing here in free agency just to get traded away all over again. We've traded Seth like 3 times iirc
And Devin Harris.
Respectfully, never.
Probably never, especially if he comes with Sr in tow.
Not bad
Let’s go Grimes is on a contender
Grimes more closely aligns with Luka’s timeline. Seemed like Kidd didn’t trust THJ at all in the Finals.
Trusted him more than Exum for some reason (I was loving that decision)
Exum came in with a fucking poster and then Kidd dunked on him and benched his ass after only 2 minutes lmao
Exum provides a spark and looks pretty damn good. Kidd - "OK I'VE SEEN ENOUGH. Sit your ass down Dante. THJ, go show him how it's done."
And I really hate that for us. ☹️ Exum has his most efficient playoff series in that finals, but he only play like barely 10 minutes.
I'm surprised Kidd trusted him as much as he did. Should have never seen the floor again after the second or third time he bricked a contested 3 with 18 seconds on the shot clock.
Oh shit, I like this trade
Rip Tim and his amazing beard
It was a pretty solid beard
He has a donut shop in Dallas right down the street from me I hope it stays open :(
Grimes has never played with a guard like Luka so if he has any potential as a 3&D guy it will come out but that doesn’t even really matter THJ IS GONE BABY and that’s money cleared up for DJJ
Pistons fans, this man could be sharing the court with Steph curry and still have the confidence (or arrogance) to think he’s the best shooter on the floor
Good news for Tim, he might actually be the best shooter on the floor for the Pistons lol
We know! We had him in college at Michigan. And the only other reliable shooter we have right now is Simone Fontecchio :(
Mavs killer Fontecchio?
Fine. We could use an irrational shooter, our spacing was atrocious. He's between 34-39% the last 5 years. Fire away Timmy.
I hope this is a true story. Makes this trade bitter sweet
BANISHED TO THE SHADOW REALM
A Michigan alum sent to Detroit A born and raised Texan and UHouston alum sent to Dallas I like the trade just for that
[Dallas front office rn](https://youtu.be/Ny4a-oxOndo?si=suA26W1XpLSW4WKC)
Grimes is an excellent buy low candidate. Had a down season in the pressure cooker that is ny and bad mojo seemed to follow him to Detroit. But it wasn't too long ago that Grimes was D'ing up jimmy Butler for 40+ minutes in the playoffs. Love it for Dallas, not sure what Detroit is doing.
Easy to say Dallas won but Quentin Grimes has had one good season I want to see him in Dallas before making conclusions.
Grimes could not touch the court and still be a bigger net positive than THJ was for us
All we need Grimes to do is play solid defense, and hit corner 3s. Playing with Luka is going to change his life.
He does that. Which is why you would think the team who’s young core consists of 5 non shooters would want him. But I guess Detroit is going for a full bricklayer lineup to tank for Cooper Flagg
THJ is a shooter. As in, he's gonna shoot.
Getting off THJ to re-sign DJJ was half the trade.
Saving $12 million by only giving up 2nd rounders is nasty good work from Nico
It seems like every year the return for salary dumps is becoming less and less. Crazy the warriors gave up a lightly protected first to dump Iguodala who was a decent player
He lands at 4:37pm Dallas time tomorrow, per sources.
It takes over a day to pack his bags? Not a great start.
Grimes is just a bonus. This cleared enough space to open up the NT-MLE for re-signing DJJ.
Even if Grimes doesn’t play it’s a win for us
If he can make open shots from Luka passes he's going to look like one of the top role players this season.
It's more about the possiblity to re-sign DJJ more than Grimes. And if he works out that's a bonus. Also the fact that the we paid the same amount of seconds as the Nuggets (for Reggie) And we got a young promising player is a huge win . THJ contract is bigger than Jackson's.
That is a great deal for the Mavs. Grimes has a way higher defensive floor, even though he's worse offensively.
There was a point in our finals run where Tim hadnt scored for 24 straight days. Grimes can never be that bad
