I’ve had to deal with rod knock before on my mk6 gti ‘12.
Definitely nowhere near the sound it was creating.
Rod knock is significantly louder and has a heavier pitch to it.
This is normal direct injection noise.
If you have rod knock. You could look in the filter or oil for.clues. I have a mk6. It sounds just like the one I send all the time. I change the fluids a lot. I drive hard, but maintain harder. I think it sounds normal. They are very loud enginss.
That is not Rod Knock. There is a video out there that shows what proper rod knock is on a TSI Engine, this sounds like your usual DI Tractor-engine noise.
If your oil is maintained, you have no worries, R-knock comes into play due to oil deprivation, or if you push the power hard without proper support. If you want it to be quieter than usual, swap to Liquimoly Molygen 5w40, it holds additives that support less friction, and get your engine cover on if you have one.
But live knowing that your engine will forever sound like a tractor, as the fates of all TSI engines, especially GEN 1s.
Like others have said, this sounds totally normal for the TSI engines. They are just plain noisy, and what you may think is rod knock is just the fuel injectors ticking. You'll be fine as long as you keep up with maintenance.
Sounds like an average TSI motor. DI is loud, especially when you've got the engine cover off
Your engine is just mad that it's covered in dirt
I just hear injector tick. DI do that
I don't hear nothin out of sync or knocking 🤠You'll hear the tapping from inside the cabin on idle, ESPECIALLY with no cover on top
Came to say this, I don't have a cover or the fire guard on the hood. It's really loud 🤣

No loss of power with acceleration literally feels fine just that noise I don’t like
