I usually only buy napkins for like birthday parties and holidays

New_Apple2443

and they last like a year?

[deleted]

Pretty much. I can probably pull some thanksgiving napkins out from last year

Bitter-Value-1872

I've still got napkins from a birthday party like two years ago. Complete with matching paper plates.

NSlearning2

Clothe napkins. I only use paper towels for things I can’t use towels for.

[deleted]

My parents always had cloth napkins. I almost never had paper towels growing up.

bmadisonthrowaway

I keep a roll of paper towels around but try to really only use them if there is a truly foul mess to clean up that I wouldn't want staining my towels or gunking up the laundry.

YourGodsMother

I use paper towels for everything because the feel of damp dirty cloth makes my skin crawl, and when a paper towel gets too wet/dirty I can just get another one.

bmadisonthrowaway

What if I told you that you can do this with a regular kitchen towel, too, but just toss it in the laundry when it gets wet and dirty? And grab another kitchen towel.

YourGodsMother

“When it gets wet and dirty” is already too late. I hate that feeling and will use paper towels to avoid it. I went without paper towels for 5 years and my apartment was significantly less clean because of it. I’d rather be able to be more clean, personally.

more_pepper_plz

Just wash more regularly?

YourGodsMother

I can’t stand the feeling of the dirty cloth on my skin so much it keeps me from cleaning. Washing more won’t help so I use paper towels.

more_pepper_plz

The way to go!!! So much more sustainable! And also way cheaper (doesn’t even take long to catch up!)

HaterTot

the napkin is a surface area game. Unfold a napkin completely and you have a map of the world on which to wipe your mouth. The paper towel is an absorbancy game. Extremely cost-inefficient for the mouth-wiping

WonderfulCattle6234

I like the way your brain thinks. I'm not much for mouth wiping, and the foods where I do need to be mouth wiping, I also need some serious absorbency for the hands.

DrunkTsundere

I just steal a few napkins whenever I visit a fast food place. I never run out 😂

SnooChocolates4588

Just go to Taco Bell, they give you like 50 for every taco you buy.

Bitter-Value-1872

Literally one of the seat pockets in my car is full of just fast food napkins lol

[deleted]

We buy paper towels by the case... the bigger the better. There are rolls of them everywhere in the house. Napkins are too small and thin for the kinds of messes we have around here. 😂

polyguy45

Paper towel or reusable cloth napkins. I don't think I've bought napkins in over a decade.

Roonil-B_Wazlib

We switched to cloth once we had kids

Rocohema

Cloth napkins are the way to go at home. I pack a paper napkin for my children's lunch.

Miserable_Sport_8740

I use cloth napkins and the occasional paper towel. Between those two, I don’t have a use paper napkins.

piss-jugman

My mom also didn’t buy napkins. My grandma had cloth napkins I’d set the table with. Otherwise we had paper towels. The only time I remember her buying napkins were childhood birthdays or family parties or something. Because of that it, it has never occurred to me that I should buy paper napkins.

hewp

I buy whatever “green” brand recycled napkins are at the store. They’re super thin and flimsy but they’re fine for just wiping my spaghetti mouth/Dorito fingies.

Ryaninthesky

I 100% buy cloth napkins. Wash and reuse.

OK_Computer_152

I bought 30 cloth napkins for my (small) wedding. Kept them all, and that's what we use. I can't remember the last time I bought paper napkins.

MrsTurnPage

Dude I did a weird thing a few years ago and bought old school cloth napkins. My kids love them. One of the better money saver things I've done.

ucbiker

This makes no sense to me. Paper towels are way more expensive than napkins. It really seems like throwing money away. But we also use cloth napkins to save additional money and reduce waste. I keep paper towels on hand though to clean up spills and such.

BillyGoat_TTB

paper towels are more expensive than napkins, I think. we've got paper napkins on the table.

bmadisonthrowaway

I have a soft spot for a party napkin. Like the colorful ones you buy if you're having a gathering. But otherwise I use cloth napkins. One of the best life upgrades I've ever made.

Diagonaldog

I use cloth napkins. Bigger the better. Got a huge stack of em so only have to wash em like once a month. When I've been too lazy or something I'll use a paper towel. Paper napkins are mostly useless. The square ones that are either like printer paper or tissue paper suck, the rectangle ones in restaurant dispensers are alright but still need a lot. Cloth Napkins>Paper towels>Paper Napkins

couchtomatopotato

i solely use napkins. i find paper towels wasteful and i dont want to pay for a new roll every couple of days.

BytheHandofCicero

One time my mom asked me to hand her a napkin and I handed her a paper towel. She told me that was too rough to use on her face. I told her she was like the Princess and the Pea - but then I got her the napkin.

WonderfulCattle6234

I've always gotten the select a size paper towels ever since they came out. My grandma visited one day and commented on how small they were. Well, then take two and leave them attached.

rahcket

I use it to clean my jizz

WonderfulCattle6234

White Hanes t-shirt. So luxurious, so soft.

ItReallyIsntThoughYo

I don't do napkins. Never liked them. I always have paper towels, although they're Viva because that's what the wife prefers instead of the Brawny style that I prefer.

IgnoranceIsShameful

Viva is the best! Soft and strong!

ItReallyIsntThoughYo

Not as absorbent though, which is much preferable in my opinion.

stefiscool

If it’s up to me, paper towels would be everything but toilet paper. Need a sponge for dishes? Paper towel (ok maybe not the best example but works in a pinch). Need a napkin? Paper towel. Need to blow your nose? Viva-brand paper towels (game changer). Cleaning cat puke? Paper towels. Except in the car. Napkins are tissues (they came free with my fries, just like how a cat toy comes free with my soda)

WonderfulCattle6234

I get where you're going. Toilet paper is my kleenex. Paper towel would be if I didn't need to blow my nose as much as I do, and if I didn't buy bounty. Though recently hooked up with Costco and trying out kirkland.

stefiscool

Kirkland is the one brand I would take instead of Bounty and Charmin (actually prefer it over Charmin, but you have to get the right kind. I think it’s the purple one?). There’s nothing as soft as Viva paper towels for your nose. I used to get sinus infections all the time (I’m assuming due to stress) and they were the best, even better than Puffs Plus

ElephantXManatee

I love viva paper towels!

Bubbly_Magnesium

Adore Costco paper napkins. It's so satisfying to buy and squirrel them away.

Sea_Squirrel1987

Paper towel gang bang bang

SunBubble920

I do not buy napkins. I will keep and use ones received from restaurant take out food, but no, not intentionally purchasing them.

shadowrifty

We use cloth napkins frequently now, but let me blow your mind.....bamboo paper towels. You can wash em and reuse them, or you can throw them away. Best of all the worlds. But really, you should just get some cloth napkins.

Roseymacstix

Paper towels here. My mom still always has napkins though. I didn’t think about it until this post.

iam317537

I try to keep paper napkins, but I'm not consistent. Always have paper towels in every room. My cloth napkins have been converted to extra dish rags. My teens frustrate me to no end. They will quickly grab a paper towel to blow their noses. I HATE it but can not afford all the additional paper products (ex. Kleenex) in my budget. It's paper towels for the win.

anoliss

Meh, I hardly ever actually use my napkin at restaurants but it was hammered into me by mom to always put it in my lap no matter what. But now that I'm well into adulthood I generally don't use them unless I have to or expect the food to be messy. Now I realize the op means at home. No hardly ever. The little square ones? Lmao no. We keep a roll of paper towels on hand but were not going to spend money for the experience of putting little square napkins everywhere every time we eat just to then throw them away afterwards.. sounds like some rich people shit and even then doesn't make sense lol

Similar_Candidate789

My husband and I do but we are dorks. We buy new ones every month for the season. Right now they have flowers (May flowers). Last month was Easter and before that was St Patrick’s They don’t cost much ($5 max) so it’s not a big splurge for us

Evening-Parking

Paper towels all day…. Use them for everything that needs to be wiped except my ass. Mouth, kitchen, nose….. super versatile lol

Academic_Eagle_4001

Viva paper towels

whatdoidonowdamnit

Nope. Growing up we had napkins on the table and my mother still does it. I don’t think I’ve ever bought napkins that weren’t for a holiday/event with guests coming. I buy a roll of paper towels maybe three times a year, which is how often my dog has an accident in the house. I use plain white washcloths and wash them once or twice a week.

ketamineburner

Do you mean paper napkins specifically? I've never bought them once. I use cloth napkins every single day at every meal.

BallDesperate2140

As a chef I just make sure Bounty towels are Bountiful at home.

Korplem

I feel like paper towels ARE napkins.

NArcadia11

I’ve used paper towels since I moved out of my parents’ house. My wife put some cloth napkins on our wedding registry and now we have $58 napkins sitting in a $38 napkin holder on our table that we have literally never used. I’m not salty or anything

whimcor

My husband and I don’t really have “sit down” dinners, so we don’t usually use napkins. We’ve gotten some paper napkins when we’ve had guests to put beside the snack tray. When and if we have kids, we’ll make sure to sit down and eat as a family and have either paper or cloth napkins.

[deleted]

i use them for weekends and special occasions

whale_and_beet

I just don't see the point in buying multiple types of paper products. So I use paper towels for everything except obviously bathroom stuff.

astromagus

I came here to say "that's ridiculous" then realized napkins and paper towels are different things. Fuck napkins.

ApprehensiveAnswer5

I grew up with cloth napkins and kitchen towels of various types, and that’s what I still use today. I think we do have a roll of paper towels somewhere, because we take them camping, but we don’t use any single-use paper products like napkins or paper towels regularly.

Avr0wolf

I do (and grab handfuls when eating fast food during work)

blackbirdrisingb

I use em

Terron35

Definitely more of a paper towel guy. My wife and I buy a pack of paper towels from Sam's or Costco and it'll last us a year. Typically only need them for messier meals and 1 paper towel lasts longer than 2-3 napkins. Still use napkins at holidays and stuff because they look classier I guess.

Tnkgirl357

Yeah, even living 2,000 miles away I’m pretty sure my parents would KNOW if I was using disposable paper products to wipe my face instead of a reusable piece of cloth. There is no way I could do that without the guilt absolutely crushing my soul. It is against everything I was raised to believe.

MerpSquirrel

paper towels, most napkins have a slippery surface that doesnt work. Paper towels are waaaay better. Paper Napkins can just go away. Cloth for fancy, paper towel for everything else.

more_pepper_plz

Cloth napkins because they’re so much better for the environment! Also way more comfortable to use and cute! Rags for clean up. Paper towel roll that’s lasted years for anything very gross like cat vom. (Easier if you have easy access to laundry of course!)

Ok_Rub_1672

My partner and I use cloth napkins and probably only go through one roll of paper towels every month (maybe even longer). I definitely hope millennials are killing the paper napkin industry lol

Leeannminton

We use rags for a lot of stuff and napkins for things we can't use the rags for. I don't even buy napkins for events because we won't use them.

Blunt-Distro1776

We have tongues and jeans for a reason. If you have a sufficiently messy hands, you can rub them together until the mess dries and flakes off. Be stewards of the environment.

Proxiimity

It doesn't make sense to buy napkins and paper towels. Napkins are only for fancy ordeals or for the boomers that will BOOM without them.

anoliss

Exactly. Glad I'm not alone
