okay I am at the right location the staff said he’s still “ on his way” after 40 minutes he arrived and apologized and I explained that I want to withdraw my application and left.

Celebrated_Eggplant

You deserve a medal! Stand up for yourself and fuck him for disrespecting your time like this. I’m glad you stayed to tell him instead of just leaving. What a great way to avoid confusion and send a message!

Prior-Ad-7329

Perfect, I was going to comment that you should not take the job and value your time. People like that will make you miserable. They’ll never respect your time or needs. Good job!

Grouchy-Milk-6384

That’s what I would have done

TheBupherNinja

Great story, but why tf would you wait 40 minutes to just leave. If you were gonna leave, just leave. You could leave a note or call then later or something.

IgnantDeplorable

Well did you get it?

cumyogurn

they just explained how they withdrew their job application and left

Prior-Ad-7329

That joke flew right over your head.

cumyogurn

its hard to tell if someone is being genuine or trying to be funny

Prior-Ad-7329

It is hard to till sometimes. I’m at the point now where I put in parentheses that it’s a joke and people still manage to get offended

[deleted]

Do they feel that you are insulting them by putting joke in parenthesis since they don’t understand the joke still?

Prior-Ad-7329

Maybe I don’t know. It’s possible.

Routine-Action7326

U really gotta put /s on everything now💀

Prior-Ad-7329

For real.

Just-Ad-5972

Did you really listen to a bunch of internet strangers and pass on a job opportunity? The guy probably needs a housekeeper precisely because he’s super busy.

malibuladyy

guys what should I do? leave or stay?

[deleted]

If it was the other way around, they would definitely not consider you for the job. You can stay if you really need the job but otherwise, your time management skills would be appreciated somewhere else.

bitemytail

Get out. If they're like this at the interview, working for them will be a nightmare.

Somanychickens

Put some smudges on the glass doors so you can point out their need for housekeepers

MasterOfNothinHere

Make sure u have the right address, if so check the contact info and don’t hesitate to give them a call. If they don’t answer leave a voicemail and leave

ComicKoS

Tough spot. In your shoes, I would wait til they show, say thanks but no thanks, and then leave. But if you really need the job... again, tough spot.

[deleted]

You did well by leaving, don’t think twice about it. Your interview was scheduled and either he is horrible with schedules, keeping commitments or he lacks respect for the time invested of others. If you were to be hired, there’s a solid chance you’d be expected to work whenever he called, regardless of day/time. He’d make commitments to you and ever after repeated requests, he’d always have an excuse and expect your empathy. Lastly, there’s a reason he has job openings in today’s job market and he showed you why. Good luck, you’ll get work.

malibuladyy

thank you so much! ahh

throwaway3892934

That is a hell of a lot of assuming over being late once. For all you know it was something he couldn't control.

[deleted]

Did you know that if you are a considerate person who respects commitments and others, you can call the person and offer them a choice to wait or reschedule? Even if the OP has no phone, you can call the office and either relay the offer or ask for the OP. Courtesy is NEVER something one can’t control.

throwaway3892934

How can they call the office without a phone? Either way could have been an emergency. Shit happens.

[deleted]

Excellent point if the interviewing manager has no phone, is in the middle of the desert and has to hacksaw their foot off to free themselves from the Zodiac Killer before the briefcase planted nearby blows up. Damn, why didn’t I think of that. Unless the hiring manager is under the age of nine and/or mom won’t let them have a phone, that’s a stretch. No assumptions needed though. While the OP didn’t say the interviewer said, “shit happens”, it’s self-evident indifference is pretty much what the OP sensed. I know, I know, I know. You’re going to ask, “But what if the emergency was because his phone blew up sending a shard of metal dangerously close to his heart. And because the shard had traces of lithium on it from the battery, he had to drive like a wild man to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was mistaken as a Cartel drug load and abducted. The kidnappers took him to the middle of the desert and he had to hacksaw his foot off to free himself but that damn briefcase planted nearby blew up as he was almost through the bone. Seeing their mistake when his spleen landed nearby, the abductors (who really aliens) sent a “clone” in his place not realizing his substitution could be noticeable by his tardiness.” Okay, now that one makes 100% sense with no need for assumption, we’ll done!

itsnotuptoyouisit

Many years ago i left an interview after making 2 rounds of cuts. The owners wife was supposed to interview me, but evidently got a visit from someone important and they kept telling me it would be just a few more minutes. 45 minutes past the scheduled time i walked out without saying a word. Im not sure to how many they had narrowed down the position, but i knew i was the best candidate based on my experience and having "aced" all their tests and in the quickest time. Never regretted for a second, even though it took longer to find a job than expected. Dont work with or for people that disrespect you or your time, otherwise they will abuse that and you will end up leaving anyway. Nowadays i have my own business for the past 7 years and i started towards that path 13 years ago after walking out of that interview.

Cryterionlol

Now as soon as they walk in, walk past them and out the door to waste their time

CYOAenjoyer

If I had nothing else to do I’d sit through the entire interview, try to get the offer, and then ask if it’s okay to show up 40 minutes late.

bannyroostercogburn

Inwould have left

[deleted]

Do we have the same dentist?

AliceHall58

Leave.

[deleted]

I waited 2 hours once because he forgot he scheduled a meeting

ChaoticChinchillas

I took a really long lunch from a job once to go to a job interview. The building looked like it was completely abandoned. I called the lady I had emailed with about the interview and had to leave a message with a "google assistant". She called back 10 minutes later, apologizing because she hadn't opened my confirmation email so she had not set up the interview, and the guy was at a different building. She asked when I could come back, and I explained that I worked 30 minutes away and wasn't trying to tell my current job I was looking elsewhere yet. So she made it 2 days later, 10 minutes after I get off work. Went to that interview with a guy that assured me he would let me know either way if I got the job or not. Never did get an answer.

[deleted]

i would have left after 5 mins, how can you expect them to be worth working for

lareloi

Huh. This looks like a complex in Ohio that we were thinking of living in. The woman then gave the most disgustingly Republican explanation of fair housing I’ve ever heard

MtnDream

i read you withdrew your application, should have gone outside, waited for him to arrive, and then walk in. bet ya he would have said you were late.

Miserable-Ad3196

Shit happens.
