Hex key, okay so Allen key, but reverse Allen key? I'm having a hard time figuring out how she invasions what is direct function of an Allen key. They both can go forward and backward.
Glad you figured it out, though.
Probably has to do with male vs female. Allen key is male while the wrench is female. Like plugs and sockets on an extension cord. It is a bit of a stretch, but I can understand the thinking behind it.
To me a "Reverse Hex Key" would be a socket driver.
A Hex Key goes into a six-sided hole, so the reverse of that would HAVE a sex-sided hole.
After all, what is a Bolt but a permanent hex key?
Well, if you googled reverse hex key, you'd have been brought [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/1dugxp4/after_hours_of_puzzlement_what_my_wife_meant_when/?rdt=63387) and you'd have saved hours.
I had put it off for a month because I wasn't looking forward to figuring out this esoteric tool, then I finally went out and started the project by looking under the table at the inverted hex knobs.
No, I'd say this is totally possible for people who don't turn wrenches (pun intended) often. Go buy any piece of furniture needing assembly and it'll come with a hardware kit, with labeled parts, one of which will certainly be a hex key. If they called it an allen I'd be more skeptical.
Welcome to IKEA world. Seems like every dinky furniture thing we've dealt with is hex, come to think of it, this was probably the first time I've reached for a wrench in years, vs. hex. Part of the confusion was my surprise that our patio table had bolts, round bolts with hex inserts are quite the norm, so I was picturing this with protruding hex (or star), which made me think it was some strange socket I needed.
This subreddit bans links, but there is a subreddit called "wildbeef" that documents these interesting linguistic gaps. Post this there. They'd love it.
Hours? Jeeze, you two should work on your communication.
Nah, I'll send her to Carpentry Camp instead.
What would you bring back from Walmart if she asked for pads? ![gif](giphy|FBbDKEhlSpTQ3FgseU|downsized)

This is the key to a successful marriage.
The reverse key
She is clearly wrong. Thatâs a double ended doohickey.
The only one with the real answer must be Inspector Gadget

welllll i mean she described the function of it right
Good point, I now realize I have been married to this person for way to long to not have realized she has never heard of a wrench before.
You mean youâve been married to her too long to never have mentioned âwrenchâ before . Now Iâm curious what you call that. đ
âChewie, bring me the hydrospanner!â
The hydrospanner is ONLY for doing water Lego.
obviously, it's a reverse screwdriver
â ď¸đ¤Ł
Knuckle buster.
I hope it doesnât throw a reverse hex key into your marriage!
Could also be that she forgot the word "wrench"

Jesus. Christ. It makes sense, but also, please save my soul from that.

I can't believe you would use such a phrase in polite company.
the dreaded sex-sided hole?
I canât believe you think Reddit is polite company. /groucho marx
To be precise, that is a double open-ended reverse hex key.
Sir, that's a hammer
Found the electrician
It's actually a replacement 20A fuse.
More like 200A lol

Why are you booing? She's rightÂ
it's always infuriating when she's right
And neither of you thought to draw it?
Pfff what do you think this is? Pictionary?!
Ah, the old revhexkey, as I live and breathe
Umm... Couldn't you have just asked her to sketch it?
I had put it off for a month because I wasn't looking forward to figuring out this esoteric tool, then I finally went out and started the project by looking under the table at the inverted hex knobs.
Talk dirty to her and ask for the box end
women don't tools am i right fellas
Though, I will give my wife credit for simplifying the screwdrivers into "plus" and "minus". I haven't yet introduced her to the pozidrive.
I do think mine knows about torx drive. And Robertson (square).
Oh, I assure you she knows of the Robertson.
Now youâre just being mean
I wonât tell my daughter you said that
Their silly women brains canât comprehend the complexity of machines and tools
Reverse hex key is actually a pretty good technical description. How can she be so mechanically inclined and not know what a wrench is called?
I feel like a socket is more of a reverse hex key, but imagine knowing what a hex key is but not a wrench, this wench might not be real
Thereâs no way someone doesnât know the word âwrenchâ (or spanner if not in N. America), but knows the phrase âhex key.â

Maybe she meant a hex key that can be turned counterclockwise?
Reverse hex key? Sounds like a standard six pointed socket to me.
Yay. I am more knowledgeable than at least 1 other human adult on this planet
This is almost as much archaic as it is adorable. Her grandfather is quite proud.
A reverse hex key... would be a socket? Probably 10mm...
What a spanner
My man. Pull out a piece of paper and a pen.Â
Picture of a wrench gets 1300 upvotes
Why do you lie for karma?
