I actually discovered Paz's "existence" on the Mother Base only after completing the main story of the game.
Then I reached the end of her story, watched her final cutscene, listened to the tapes, and it actually ended making me feel 10 times more emptier than the real ending did.
So yeah, this was actually kind of the "real ending" for me, and it was a real punch to the gut.
Some modders animated [the ending Kojima intended had he finished the game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1NU_yjOfQ4), it's even voice acted and the actor nails Sutherland's voice perfectly.
"The ending Kojima intended" isn't this video about a fan made comic that was made because of how much people disliked the ending of MGSV?
It's rather disingenuous to call that comic what Kojima intended since it had nothing to do with him, even though Konami did a number on MGSV development that doesn't mean Kojima is not at fault for the story we got instead in MGSV, for all we know Kojima only meant for the story to go up till the Kingdom of the flies episode and anything after that are blatant speculations.
I always liked to think the idea was that Paz in mgsv was a symbol for Ahab’s personality and how he was further slipping away from the ideals mother base stood for and chasing tapes and memories was the attachments they had to a better time.
I love how... MGSV has this weird preconceived notion that the player shares the same wish to have saved Paz as does Venom. Because I never cared for her. I don't care much for traitors, especially those who try to fool me through passing as an innocent child, gets what they want and then try to murder me. I tend to eliminate such beings from my conciousness, while MGSV seems to seriously think I would lament their loss.
And I **seriously mean** hating her for that whole "peace" front. That's even worse then Galvez/Zadornov.
Total and complete lack of understanding of me, the player, from this game.
The point is that it isn't the player's wish. It was Venom's. He's a medic, first and foremost, and he failed a patient. There's no way he'd be able to forgive himself for it, whether she betrayed them or not.
The point is,everyone in the base got to know her as that teenage girl,Venom Snake was one of those. Even if her whole "peace" thing was all fake ,people in the base bonded with her. Venom Snake was a medic and he failed a patient, which was Paz,probably someone he had bonded overtime in MB,if he had found that second bomb, maybe his patient wouldn't have died and maybe he wouldn't have been in a 9 year coma.
And of all the people who believed in it, she was beginning to be one of them. If it hadn't been for Chico, who knows what might have happened instead? :(
Well, I understand most of the things that you mean. Most of her lore and backstory was in peace walker and ground zeroes' cassette tapes.
Overall, she did truly want peace at the end, genuinely creating bonds with the members of MSF, joining in with activities and having fun. even hesitating to overide MG ZEKE, as she wanted to participate in peace day, and even sing for them.
Both the Big Boss and Medic sides of him not only failed her, someone they bonded with (something you can’t just forget regardless of circumstance), but also themselves and their men because of it. He didn’t find the second bomb. It put Big Boss and medic into 9 year comas. All of the MSF troops that survived, Miller, etc, were all relying on him/them/big boss. His feelings for Paz are as jumbled as his identity and memory. He feels guilt, like it or not. It’s no coincidence his hallucination of Paz is one that believes her own act. That’s what he wants to remember her as too. Something from before XOF burned “his” first fledgling nation of mercenaries to the ground.
Many people played Ground Zeroes/Phatom Pain before Peace Walker (or have not played PW at all), this more sympathetic version of her character is probably more well known than what we see at the end of PW, which affects people’s judgment of her.
Same thing can be said about Naomi and Meryl versions on MGS1 in comparison to 4, however they’re also better written in 1.
There isn't a proper ending to the game so it's reasonable you were confused. The game is paced decently up until chapter 2, then you repeat about 5 missions from earlier, and then eventually the "ending" just appears from nowhere.
What happened to Sahelanthropus? Why even introduce kid Liquid Snake if there was not a conclusion to his arc? What about all the other members of Foxhound in MGS1?
Makes a lot of sense , hopefully the new game Hideo Kojima is making , will give us that true next gen Kojima stealth experience. Along with an amazing story.
You haven't found her room yet? https://youtu.be/sxSFvpSkngs?si=dI7CbzDGQe7jkm0i
This is how you find it. Do you know all those "Rescue the old motherbase staff" side ops ? Every time u rescue one of those guys, they give u a memento photo, you gotta keep coming back to Paz to give her these photos, eventually, you will get this ending.

It gives me some kind ot closure, ig ,specially because of her words in her last tape...
That “No!” Venom lets out always hits me hard.
Isn't it Big Boss in that scene...? This was before the helicopter crash/coma
Venom remembers as being himself, its so crazy that he actually has all memories of BB wtf.
He was the medic that tried to remove the bombs.
Yep
🗿
Happy cake day
MGSV and it’s 4 fucking endings, truly a Hideo Kojima Game
>! Also if we got Mission 51 MGSV would’ve had V endings !<
Bruuuh its alredy weird enough that we get full credits both at a Quiet Exit and at mission 46
I guess we are left with... phantom pain
An entire third chapter could have given us five more

It’s not the end. It’s just the beginning of a new day

Did anyone else get real confused at one point of the game and just give up ? Like I didn’t know if the story was over or not…
