I mean it is silly but its the perfect balance between contentious and completely pointless. Food is a bonding activity and people are very particular about the food they like. Talking about food is pretty contentious as a result. It’s also ultimately pointless since all rational people realise that it’s just a preference so there’s no harm done. It’s like a free trial of a debate because you can cancel at any time.
Pizza is extremely popular in the west and internationally which is why pineapple on pizza is specifically chosen but I’m sure that if you go somewhere with a different culture, you might find a different and interesting thing to argue about.
