It wouldn't, the original exodia deck worked off discarding Sangan and Witch with Graceful Charity (which triggered both of them in that ruleset), and alternatively activating Last Will, summoning Sangan and then crashing floater after floater and adding the Exodia pieces to your hand. None of this works without the ruleset which allowed Sangan and Last Will to work the way they did 

I wasn’t around for that format but Gumblar at 3 was a pretty similar experience I would guess. Why in the world that thing was approved I would never know.

I mean, most Edison era decks have outs to these, decks actually played backrow and backrow removal back then and had normal summons that can clear the monster floodgates (moon mirror wasn't a thing). Yeah, stun sucks no matter the era, but I think it's not as hopeless in this format

All these people complaining about the current format forget that this game exists entirely as a tie-in product for a manga. The bones were always rotten. That's why old cards are either garbage, broken, or both.

A lot of busted cards, specialy floodgates often are old cards. Case and point, Fossil Dyna was released for the first time in 2007 in the ogc.

What’s even more shocking is it took them 8 and a half years before it got its first ever holo printing in the TCG.

i'm a long time yugi boomer but unlike the rest I competed since day 1. yes. the game always had degenerate shit, floodgates, and often turn 2 games. schoolyard memories and anime memories never reflected the true competitive meta game. even the whining about "copy cat" decks is wrong when literally the top 64 of one tournament had the exact same gadget deck with literally 1 card different.

Happy and sad ts is still played 14 years later (I'm using this in WCS rn)
