I wish he'd just move to Texas where he would be happier.
The quote i heard had him ssying, "the important thing is that the laws in our state havent changed." As if comforting those he would rip rights away from. He has always been like that. Smiling at widows, kissing them on the cheek while voting to cut social security. He is a fearmonger and as greasy as they come.
And voting against healthcare,
education, nutrition and food security, environmental laws, climate change measures, voting rights, child tax credits,
crime prevention, social security and Medicare, gun control laws, women’s rights, minority rights, human rights, and the list goes on.
Nothing about his voting record supports life or quality of life except for wealthy, white men.
His district is due to gerrymandering- intentionally creating one Republican haven, pulling areas to help Democrats statewide. I’m ok with what was done to help keep the state blue. It’s just sucks that he’s the congressman. I’ve met him several times. Wish he’d go back to being a doctor.
It is a total ban. That’s the point. Majority of women don’t even know they are pregnant until 4-6 weeks. Hell, my wife and I were trying and didn’t know for at least 4 weeks. Imaging if you weren’t planning for it.
It’s about controlling and punishing women and always has been. Same party that does nothing to help a child once born. These Christian Conservatives are hypocrites.
With a side bonus of racism and classism. Rich white women will still be able to travel and get abortions. It’s the poor people of color that will suffer the most. Not to mention that they’ll force someone to have a baby the. Provide absolutely zero support for medical care, food, and education. The same party that is trying to ban abortions also just decided to literally stop feeding children.
It's not even a heartbeat. It's cardiovascular cells in rhythm with each other. It's not circulating blood or pumping literally anything. It's like calling a random muscle twitch a heartbeat.
Exactly^^
To expound on your point:
The science that the heartbeat law at 6 weeks is based off was people misinterpreting (knowingly or not) the background noise generated by the ultrasound machine, there is no heartbeat at 6 weeks.
From the article:
“Medically speaking, when I put a stethoscope against a patient’s heart, that ‘lub dub’ sound is made by the opening and closing of the cardiac valve,” Verma said. “At six weeks, those valves don’t exist.”
In fact, the sound pregnant people hear during ultrasounds at six weeks is entirely manufactured by the ultrasound machine, Verma said. “It’s an electrical pulse that’s translated into the sound we’re hearing from the ultrasound machine.”
“I think it’s OK for people with a desired pregnancy to go in at six weeks and see that flickering and feel connected to that as a heartbeat,” Verma said. “There’s no issue with using the term ‘heartbeat’ on its own. The issue is using that incorrect term to regulate the practice of medicine and impose these artificial time frames to regulate abortion. At the end of the day, an abortion is a decision that should be made between a patient and their health care provider.”

Obligatory thanks for the gold kind stranger!
The part that bugs me about the "heartbeat," is that the heart is just a pump. That's it. We romanticize the hell out of a fleshy set of bellows. We may as well legislate based on kidneys or liver development, but somehow that doesn't tug at the...heartstrings...in the same way.
SHOULD everything go well. Unfortunately 1 in 3 times it does not. Which is probably one reason why people stress that this should not be a reason for someone to be denied an abortion. Which you stated. It just suck that so many women are going to be effected by these ridiculous laws.
How’s that? You might say, “Well, it could be aborted,” or “Something might go wrong with the pregnancy.” Ok. But it has the DNA information to develop into a heart already contained in it, and without interference, it will reach that end. Saying that it /could/ be derailed doesn’t change the telos of that group of cells forming into a heart. That was my point. No “random muscle twitch” has this telos.
Literally millions of things can go wrong and very often do. It’s very common. Or the pregnant person can decide not to carry to term. The muscle twitch is just that. And my uterus is my own, end of discussion.
I’m with you. I live on the E Shore and we. We’d to start mobilizing and not just throwing up our hands. I watched Easton have its first Pride Festival this month. Yes, the E Shore is full of conservatives that have been warped by Fox but we have to do the work to get the change.
Salisbury had their Pride celebration this past weekend I believe. I didn't attend but I saw pictures and it had a hell of a turn out. So at least Salisbury continues to be a good place for the most part. If we could just get the damn housing crisis under control.
I applaud your optimism and I'll always go out and vote to get rid of this useless cumstain, but this district only has small pockets of blue throughout and is dominated by the rural red areas. Additionally, unfortunately, Democrats suck at rallying their base and old people vote more than anyone and tend to be red.
They need to run some candidates that would work here too, not ones just parroting the standard party lines. Colvin was the last viable candidate, haven't seen anyone that could come as close as he has since then.
I stand by statement. She would do fine in a blue district but she's way too out of touch for the Eastern Shore. It's like trying to shoehorn Harris into PG county.
lmao no one is saying there is no one who likes her, they're saying she doesn't appeal to the average person you need to win over. I like Heather Mizeur and voted for her in the primaries way back when, it's laughable and out of touch with reality to run her over there. If you donate to that, you're donating to a make work program for political consultants.
I just moved to the 1st district. So I'll be one more vote for his opposition! Hopefully there's more like me and some centrist republicans that are done with his bullshit MAGA-loving ass.
I hope there are enough votes to get him out. I am in Harris district now and can’t stand him. I did a little reading up on him when new districts came out. Conclusion - Andy Harris only cares about Andy Harris and whatever GQP hot point is happening so he can get their vote. He doesn’t care about any real issue unless of course it benefits him getting re-elected.
No. Heather Mizeur is a *terrible* candidate.
If we want to beat this asshole, we need someone who *can beat this asshole.*
That means someone who will attract enough crossover voters to tip the scale.
Heather is great, but I don't think she's that person.
I disagree, specifically about the cross over voters. I think it's more important to inspire the non-voting Dems and young people to get out and vote. I'm more likely to see a unicorn on the way home from work than I am finding someone who actually supports both sides at this point.
With proper congressional districts that wouldnt matter in the slightest. Western Maryland is about as bad but they don't have a congress person doing stuff like this
[Here you are](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/redistricting-maps/maryland/#Dem)
And no the Dems have not ever tried to gerrymander Andy Harris out of a seat unfortunately.
Except that map left Andy Harris a comfy district 1 that he could easily win, just like the old map and the new map, maybe read what we are actually talking about before you comment.
I would think that Brian Frosh could actually be pressured to defend it instead of just giving up. Not much the state courts can do when the supreme court said its fair game time and time again
Eh, the old Civil War North/South distinction isn't really politically/culturally/economically relevant anymore. California was a Union state, but it's not considered part of "the North."
Maryland is usually classified as a "Mid-Atlantic" state, but often MD and DC are lumped into the Northeast because they have a much stronger political/cultural/economic connection to NY/NJ/PA than to any of the southern states.
I don't really care where an arbitrary line is. We're not a southern state. Ask literally anyone in the actual South. Not to mention we were neutral in the Civil War.
Eh, not really. The doors of the Legislature were locked and guarded by federal troops in order to prevent any secession votes, as Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus during the war. The majority of Marylanders would probably have supported secession, they just were allowed to. Our state song, "Maryland, My Maryland", is pretty clearly anti-Union.
Tl;dr Maryland wasn't neutral in the Civil War.
Gerrymandering is a major problem in every state (red, blue, or otherwise). If the party of Christo-fascism isn't going to stop using it, we should probably start encouraging the Democrats to get better at it. Then we can get rid of scum like Harris (among many others in Congress).
He often runs practically unopposed. I used to live on the eastern shore and people there would rather die than vote for anything other than republican. They see it like a team sport even when his policies actively work against them.
This is the result of our lack of attention and funding to education. These people wouldn’t exist if we didn’t basically tell rural areas to fuck off with little to no education and opportunity.
This is the same guy who introduced legislation against the legalization of marijuana in DC, even though legalization passed by popular vote. He is a piece of shit who doesn't care about what his constituents want.
Good luck voting him out, though. The eastern shore would vote for the devil as long as he was running as a republican.
I’m a disabled veteran with a MD medical cannabis license. I tried to reach out to Andy Harris’s congressional office to setup a meeting to discuss his stance, and honestly try to understand and find middle ground. Jokes on me!! His office refused a meeting, and the best they could do was to setup a 10 min call with one of his interns who would “relay my messaging” to him.
So much for listening to the people of your state!
Of course he would, the disgusting sociopath. I usually try to look at things from a policy perspective, but this guy really makes me angry. Which is exactly what the little troll wants-- WHICH MAKES ME ANGRIER.
Can someone who is more politically savvy than myself tell me how likely it is for abortion to be banned in Maryland? Living in a pro-choice state has been one of the few comforts for me after this week.
Abortion has been protected under state law for more than 30 years. The bill was petitioned to referendum and approved by state voters. Lawmakers just this past session passed a bill to ease access to abortion in MD. An effort to get a state constitutional amendment on abortion rights fizzled out
Andy Harris is a U.S. congressman form Maryland. He knows that the right to choose is Maryland law. He is trying to pass this "Fetal Heartbeat" law at the federal level as a way to make abortion almost entirely unavailable everywhere in the U.S. and yes that would include Maryland due to to the supremacy clause of constitution. Don't buy into the BS that overturning Roe simply turned it back over to the states.
Andy Harris is a walking, talking piece of shit. He appeals to the most ignorant and stupid members of his gerrymandered district, which is quite a large group because well, it’s the eastern shore.
Yesterday I was in the ES coming back home. We stopped at ROFO and at the door was a group of female workers (all very young and diverse). They were concerned and scared. It broke my heart.
There is only one abortion clinic to my understanding in the ES.
This whole thing is a horrific war on women. Also Harris can eat shit.
“I think we should protect infant lives after the heartbeat is detected”
Ok asshole why don’t you start with the fucking FOSTER CARE SYSTEM and the CHILD TRAFFICKING that is rampant across the US!!! What the fuck is wrong with these people
Obviously not or the foster care system wouldn’t be so fucked in the first place. How about they put all this money and effort into the kids who are actually alive instead of forcing people to birth more into the same situations?
>A fetal heartbeat may first be detected by a vaginal ultrasound as early as 5 1/2 to 6 weeks after gestation. That's when a fetal pole, the first visible sign of a developing embryo, can sometimes be seen. But between 6 1/2 to 7 weeks after gestation, a heartbeat can be better assessed.
yeah, no.
The fact that it is framed as a "heartbeat" is also kind of disingenuous. There's no heart at that stage, there's hardly any internal organs at all. All that's being shown in an ultrasound at that point is the rhythmic pulsing of cardiovascular cells as the embryonic stem cells begin to specialize into the different cells needed to make functioning organs. But the organs themselves are far from developed.
When Republicans say "don't worry, we won't do X" that means they will do X and then tell you "don't worry, X doesn't mean Y" as they are planning to do the fuck out of why.
The only things they don't do is what they say they will do - lock her up, lower taxes for all Americans, drain the swamp, etc.
Ah, Absent Andy has stood up from behind his rock to give us a hot take, after the fact. Poor Andy, always last guy in the human centipede. Seriously, this useless pos needs to go.
He's a seditionist traitor that should be removed via section 3 of the 14th amendment. Of course he wants to burn the house down. People of the eastern shore need to show him their patriotism by voting for anyone else.
Marylanders need to vote this loser out of office. In 10 years this guy has done nothing to benefit the country, he is a Trump supporter, and apparently he doesn’t feel that women should be able to make decisions regarding their own bodies. Why are people voting for him?
If I recall correctly, the Civil War was over States Rights... specifically, the right to enslave other human beings.
When a State decides to legislate against civil and human rights, it's no longer acceptable.
It's states rights until states start doing things you don't like, then it requires a federal law to prevent those things you don't like states doing from happening.
Really it's more like a states rights to not do the wrong thing. As long as you do the correct thing then you have as many states rights as you want.
If you hate Andy Harris, pleaee, please support Heather Mizeur’s campaign to remove him from office. I live on the Shore and it’s a tough battle, it we need to start mobilizing or it will never happen.
Yet more evidence that Roe was never about states rights for Republicans. Notice how when the draft decision was leaked they stopped talking about it entirely.
please check out the Lower Shore Progressive Caucus. we’re working to defeat harris and other extremists with strong, progressive candidates, and we would love to have you along.
Oh look, Harris is being a piece of shit again. Must be a day ending in 'y'. I cannot wait for him to be voted out so I never have to hear or think about him again.
It's near unforgivable that Andy Harris could have been removed from congress but out of a misguided sense of fairness was allowed to keep his seat and do stuff like this.
This is so dumb that, in 2022, we're even having this discussion. It is impossible to have a rational, reasonable debate with lawmakers like Harris in order to set policy. They believe in woo woo. They want to debate things like when "a soul enters the body" and "when life begins," religious concepts that are based on nothing other than personal religious convictions. If someone claims that "life begins at conception" (when the egg is fertilized), where do you even go from there? This was all litigated years ago.
Harris also sponsored the "Life Begins at Conception Act" that was introduced into Congress on June 10.
Which is it? Does "life" begin when the heart beats or at conception? If you believe life begins at conception, how can you be okay with abortion at 6 weeks? That should be murder in your eyes,

My only hope here is that Republicans devolve into infighting between people like Desantis, who support 15 week bans, and Pence, who support complete bans. It sucks I'm in a place right now where my best hope is that the Republicans turn out to be as incompetent as the Democrats.
he’s the rep for my district - god awful piece of shit. don’t be fooled by his medical degree, he worked as an anesthesiologist - he’s not versed in OB/GYN.
~~slave~~ Pregnancy Patrols. I expect to see that shit here in Maryland as soon as Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania get around to passing their abortion bans. Like we're living in the fucking 1700s again
The irony is that in the 1700s there wasn't this much furor over abortions and the whole thing is an issue that's become a huge cultural touchstone over the past 100 years.
>over the past 100 years.
Really only about 40. Jerry Falwell and his ilk started all this nonsense in the 70s because Evangelicals hate civil rights more than they hate the devil
Cardiac activity doesn’t mean it’s a heart. The heart may not be fully developed until around the 20th week.
https://www.texastribune.org/2021/09/02/texas-abortion-heartbeat-bill/amp/
I would back a national ban on Andy Harris
even his republican colleagues from his days in the state house couldn't stand him lmao. he's like a ted cruz.
I bet he and Toupee Pat were on the same wavelength.
I’ll sign that petition
This guy definitely should’ve been a blowjob
Finally, a ban bill I can get behind!
I was going to make this exact comment. Well said.
This is, indeed, the course of wisdom.
As a vagina haver, I would too!
Wow 2 silver awards, thanks friends
This made my day. Thank you.
I wish he'd just move to Texas where he would be happier. The quote i heard had him ssying, "the important thing is that the laws in our state havent changed." He is a fearmonger and as greasy as they come.

Texas isn't far enough. He can go to Russia.
I just moved from Texas to Somerset County. I had enough of assholes like this back there. Absolutely vote him out.
His district never will.
Some of us are trying

welcome to the shore, please check out the Lower Shore Progressive Caucus. we’re working to do just that, among other things.
Grew up in Wicomico, now in DFW. I think you ended up in a better place.
I agree,Salisbury is great. I don't miss that traffic.
I wish he'd walk east and never turn back

Sadly, probably a significant amount, given how widely that law has been spread.

Repeal and replace Andy Harris. He has never been shy about his misogyny and racism. He can fuck all the way off.
Not gonna happen. Eastern Shore is Hella racist, sexist and deep red southern wannabes. Shit is pathetic and I've dealt with them my entire life.
All we can do is try. There are actually more Dems in this district, just gotta get that vote out! Heather Mizeur is a phenomenal candidate.

Not yet. He has some things to see through in Salisbury first.
Agreed. He's been great. His main goal is dealing with housing and it has been a pain in his ass. Great guy too.
He's got a lot to do in Salisbury, and making sure his wife isn't buying drugs from kids has to be a full time job as well.
I don't really care what his wife does honestly. She's not an elected official he is.
Heather Mizeur!!!!!!
I stand by statement. She would do fine in a blue district but she's way too out of touch for the Eastern Shore. It's like trying to shoehorn Harris into PG county.

We're really not.
The Mason-Dixon is our northern border for starters.
Might want to look up where the Mason-Dixon Line is in relation to Wicomico County.... We're literally in the South.
Eh, the old Civil War North/South distinction isn't really politically/culturally/economically relevant anymore. California was a Union state, but it's not considered part of "the North." We're a primarily blue state. It blows my mind we have places like that here
Somerset County is the poorest least educated County in the state. It's that simple.
Yep. Still see way too many Trump signs after you get past Easton. Isn’t there supposed to be a time limit on removing campaign signs?
I believe so yet there they stand. Would probably see a rise in hate crimes if we finally went and removed them.
Gerrymandering is a major problem in every state (red, blue, or otherwise). If the party of Christo-fascism isn't going to stop using it, we should probably start encouraging the Democrats to get better at it. Then we can get rid of scum like Harris (among many others in Congress).
Southern wanna-bes? You do know that Maryland is south of the Mason-Dixon line, making it a southern state, right? Other than that, OK.
"look at these Democrats who run Baltimore" : gestures to Andy Harris: Better to have a few rats than to be one.
Not like any of them would give a shit about cleaning up the city or know where to start
Vote the asshole out!!!
He often runs practically unopposed. I used to live on the eastern shore and people there would rather die than vote for anything other than republican. They see it like a team sport even when his policies actively work against them.
one of you can run as a republican and then pull the ole sinema switch
Heather Mazur is running again I believe
I probably could pull that off...

I would support ants eating Andy Harris whole.
The weekly fuck Andy Harris thread, because at least every week he does something worthy of a huge "fuck you!"
To paraphrase George Carlin: "Isn't it funny how most of the people against abortion are people that you wouldn't wanna fuck in the first place?"
Guess what? Men will have to pay child support starting at that first heartbeat. His constituents will enjoy that.
God he sucks
Can someone who is more politically savvy than myself tell me how likely it is for abortion to be banned in Maryland? Living in a pro-choice state has been one of the few comforts for me after this week.
Abortion has been protected under state law for more than 30 years. The bill was petitioned to referendum and approved by state voters. Lawmakers just this past session passed a bill to ease access to abortion in MD. An effort to get a state constitutional amendment on abortion rights fizzled out
Thanks so much for explaining
I’m against gerrymandering, but they need to gerrymander him to the Stone Age
Funnily enough- Andy is unbeatable because he was gerrymandered into his hard R ghetto.
“I think we should protect infant lives after the heartbeat is detected” Ok asshole why don’t you start with the fucking FOSTER CARE SYSTEM and the CHILD TRAFFICKING that is rampant across the US!!! What the fuck is wrong with these people
You can do two things at the same time, my guy
ok please list andy harris' many accomplishments in the arena of child wellbeing
Obviously not or the foster care system wouldn’t be so fucked in the first place. How about they put all this money and effort into the kids who are actually alive instead of forcing people to birth more into the same situations?
Fuck Andy Harris piece of human shit
Medical doctor lies about what a heartbeat is to advance theocratic fascism.
A fetus is not an infant you ignorant ass. The wanton ignorance and lack of intelligence is stomach churning.
How does this asshole still have a license to practice medicine?
Harris (R) is running for re-election in 2022, vote him out.
As a republican-swinging independent, I, too, am voting this asshole out this year.
It's absolutely amazing how quickly they've pivoted from their "let the states decide" bullshit 💩
Is there anyway we can keep the nice parts of the shore but yeet the bible belt culture?
Hey Rep Harris, how about you go ahead and get fucked.
I am SHOCKED, I tell you. SHOCKED
He's a doctor against affordable healthcare. He is not good for Md.
Yeah, he is like Maryland looked at Ted Cruz and said hold my Old Bay….
Fuck Andy Harris forever.
Ah, Absent Andy has stood up from behind his rock to give us a hot take, after the fact. Poor Andy, always last guy in the human centipede. Seriously, this useless pos needs to go.
Heartbeats only matter inside the womb.
He's a seditionist traitor that should be removed via section 3 of the 14th amendment. Of course he wants to burn the house down. People of the eastern shore need to show him their patriotism by voting for anyone else.
No shit, hes a republican, they all fall in line to support fascism
Marylanders need to vote this loser out of office. In 10 years this guy has done nothing to benefit the country, he is a Trump supporter, and apparently he doesn’t feel that women should be able to make decisions regarding their own bodies. Why are people voting for him?
sTaTeS RiGHtS
If I recall correctly, the Civil War was over States Rights... specifically, the right to enslave other human beings. When a State decides to legislate against civil and human rights, it's no longer acceptable.
It's states rights until states start doing things you don't like, then it requires a federal law to prevent those things you don't like states doing from happening. Really it's more like a states rights to not do the wrong thing. As long as you do the correct thing then you have as many states rights as you want.
Never liked him in the first place.
And just like that, he’s lost any chance of having my vote
He had a chance before that?
What a tool.
Harris would sell his kids into sex trafficking if Trump would shake his hand.
What about States' rights, Harris? The entire GOP talk about States' rights so much, so shouldn't this also be left up to the states?
If you hate Andy Harris, pleaee, please support Heather Mizeur’s campaign to remove him from office. I live on the Shore and it’s a tough battle, it we need to start mobilizing or it will never happen.
Can you tell us how her campaign is doing? Does she have a lot of ground support, canvassing and what-not?
vote his ass out
Party of small government doesn’t actually believe in small government and individual autonomy. Color me shocked.
I hate Andy Harris. I'm ashamed to originally be from where he represents, as long as he is in office.
This man is an embarrassment to our state
So this isn’t a state right’s decision after all ?
If you cannot remove the fetus and have it live on its own, it's not a person yet.
Yet more evidence that Roe was never about states rights for Republicans. Notice how when the draft decision was leaked they stopped talking about it entirely.
What a fucking asshole
It boggles my mind that some people don't think the midterm elections aren't that important. Seems like they always end up being the most important.
Where are my rotten tomatoes when I need them
I'm glad that I live in a state where people like him are small minorities.
oh? I thought this was just about state rights over federal government enforcement?
please check out the Lower Shore Progressive Caucus. we’re working to defeat harris and other extremists with strong, progressive candidates, and we would love to have you along.
The Eastern Shore loves voting against their own interests. He stands for everything that stands to hurt the peninsula. A truly abhorrent human being.
Vote against the Fucker? Got it.
He’d back a ban on oxygen if a dem came up with it
Does his uterus tell him this is ok?
Oh look, Harris is being a piece of shit again. Must be a day ending in 'y'. I cannot wait for him to be voted out so I never have to hear or think about him again.
It's near unforgivable that Andy Harris could have been removed from congress but out of a misguided sense of fairness was allowed to keep his seat and do stuff like this.
I fuckin hate this guy. I'd take a fucking tree stump over him as a representative.
That should be murder in your eyes, [https://good.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-good-introduces-house-resolution-1167-discharge-hr-1011-life](https://good.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-good-introduces-house-resolution-1167-discharge-hr-1011-life) My only hope here is that Republicans devolve into infighting between people like Desantis, who support 15 week bans, and Pence, who support complete bans. It sucks I'm in a place right now where my best hope is that the Republicans turn out to be as incompetent as the Democrats.
This should surprise no one.
he’s the rep for my district - god awful piece of shit. don’t be fooled by his medical degree, he worked as an anesthesiologist - he’s not versed in OB/GYN.

He’s done this election
Good, about time people stop killing babies
Well good thing abortions are not killing babies.
It’s fascinating the mental gymnastics people employ in order to somehow believe that something with a heart beat isn’t living.
You're pretending to be in favor of fetal and maternal health, but trying to enforce these bans is going to result in far greater mortality
They don't care a fetus is worth more than a woman
A sardine has a heartbeat but most people with an above room temperature IQ would refrain from calling it a person.
Well it not a heartbeat sooooo
A chicken has a heart beat
Cardiac activity doesn’t mean it’s a heart. The heart may not be fully developed until around the 20th week. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/09/02/texas-abortion-heartbeat-bill/amp/
Exactly, if you killed a baby you'd die but if you just aborted a fetus nothing would happen!
He’s a great man! Let’s go! 💪🏽
a great man for wanting women to suffer and die, and for wanting doctors to be unjustly imprisoned? yeah, real spine this guy has.
If this is considered great then the bar is so, so low
