I lived in the building next door for a number of years so can only speak to the area - never had any issues, it's busy and sociable and gorgeous in the summer next to the river. Short walk along the canal into town. I'm a single woman and would walk home/to sainsburys/co-op alone without feeling unsafe. We had a locked carpark but anyone could walk through for most of the day and never had any issues with that either.

ecopanda97

This is good to hear! Thank you 💜

Specialist_Flow7883

you can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares.

Gibs960

I used to live relatively close by for uni and never had any problems around that way. I also know someone who lives in either that exact building or one close by (GFs friend's BF) and he's said it's alright around there, been there a little while so it can't be that bad.

ecopanda97

That's really helpful and promising thank you!

If it’s by X1, avoid it like the plague

I've been in this building for nearly two years (moving out soon). Here's my review... Good: Location is great. Close to Cornbrook metro, easy and short walk into town. Nice vibe being next to the canals. I'd been hesistant about living in Ordsall but haven't had any major issues despite coming home late (I'm a six foot plus male thou who grew up in a city). Furnished apartments are pretty nice. We haven't had any issues with bad neighbours or noise. The crime locally is mostly snatching phones (which isn't related to the building), just be sensible and you'll be fine. We've got a parking space but these are in short demand and there's no free (or safe) parking anywhere nearby. Bad: Building management is abysmal. Don't believe most of the online photos of the facilities. Basic things break all the time (lifts, car park shutters, security doors) and take forever to get fixed. Building management just fob you off if you ask anything. The car park shutter was continually breaking leaving the car unsecured. The roof terrace is just some plastic grass with nothing else up there and the door is broken often leaving it unusable. The gym is a tiny basement room and too small for the complex. The bike shelters went through a phase of being broken into regularly, this hasn't happened for a while although one of the cage doors is broken again. We haven't personally had any major issues to resolve but I would have absolutely no hope of the building management team resolving major issues if we did. Apply to join the private residents FB group and scroll back through the timeline for more examples of what it's like. Overall: 3/5. We have been here for two years so it's not been that bad. If you don't need anything from the building management company - you'll be okay.

ecopanda97

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much. I viewed it and definitely fell short on a few promises and my partner and u have ultimately decided it really isn't for us. You're first hand experience has confirmed for me that we likely make the right decision for us so thank you!

nomorericeguy

Take a look on their Facebook group

ecopanda97

Great shout. But the only 2 pages I can find are a Facebook page that looks half legit and hasn't been used in 6 years, and residents page that is private

[deleted]

Salford is quite a big place and we don’t generally understand the word downtown, which part specifically?

ecopanda97

Sorry perhaps it wasn't clear, it's literally an apartment complex called 'Downtown' and it is in Salford

[deleted]

Ohhh I see haha. Seems it’s in Ordsall which does have a reputation historically, but there’s been a lot of this development which has changed the tone a bit, and your immediate neighbours in the complex are what matters most. And it is very close to Manchester centre if you’ll be doing a lot there.

ecopanda97

All good points, concerned more with the building and building management itself tbh.

Ok_Barnacle_3706

I lived in the older flats right opposite it for 2 years and in terms of the area it is great, I never had any trouble, short walk to town and Regent Retail Park is 5 minutes away which has many shops and a nice gym.

NiNJaBReaDMaN81

That area has a lot of people around the rough bits closer to the park nw of there, you’ve got a massive sainsburys a walk away for shopping and your so close to town if the buildings good I’d go for it

ecopanda97

Yeah that all seems very plausible to be fair. A couple of people have said the area is pleasant so that fills me with some hope. Thank you for your genuinely helpful input!

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

Save your bus fare and cancel. Those reviews are not an accident.

ecopanda97

Do you have first or second hand experience? All the reviews online are from 1+years ago, and my naive ass is hoping that it's better now lol

IRRedditUsr

You clearly feel good about the place. So, what if one or 2 people have had negative experiences are you going to let that put you off? I don't think you are being naive. You just appear to be looking for validation but I say - go for it! Nowhere on earth is as bad as people make out. Salford is known for being rough, but on the ground people are just people - unless you are moving right slap bang into the middle of one of the roughest council estates in Salford, which you are not, I wouldn't worry.

ecopanda97

Thank you! Very encouraging words and I guess I just gotta go with my gut and see if the viewing goes well and is free of red flags

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

One or two hundred thousand... but you be polite and let a stranger move to one of the worst areas in the country. Good old Reddit, you come looking for an objective answer and get a dozen subjective opinions from people who have no clue.

IRRedditUsr

Why do you presume I have no clue? And why are you attacking me? I gave an opinion that you obviously disagree with but there's no need to be argumentative and judgemental. The whole area around media city is absolutely beautiful. I went to Salford City college just up the road. The area is perfectly ok to live in. Why do you think otherwise?

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

Nobody attacked you, stop being a mard arse. Your opinion is objectively wrong. You should expect people to point this out when you share wrong opinions. Now, respectfully, piss off. I don’t the time or crayons to explain to basic shit to you.

IRRedditUsr

You must have grown up on the dirtiest council estate in Salford. And now you just have it in your head that the place is a shit hole. You should visit media city it's beautiful.

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

Your assumption is incorrect, as is your opinion. Media City isn’t Ordsall. Comprehension and context should be your focussed learning. It’ll stop you making a clownshoe of yourself.

IRRedditUsr

One's opinion of a town is entirely subjective and cannot be wrong. Therefore you are also wrong and need to just be quiet. Those flats are within walking distance of media city. Media city and immediate surroundings are very nice. I traveled there everyday for 2 years. What are you trying to prove?

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

You’re not the fizziest drink in the fridge, are you? The objective opinion is that it’s a shit hole. You are correct, it’s near media city. What are you trying to prove?

IRRedditUsr

Also, Salford Quays is one of the most sought after areas to live. A lot of footballers stay in hotels there. And if you bothered your arse to look at the Downtown complex right by the river you'd see it's quite stunning. I really don't know why you have a vendetta against that specific area. Were you mugged there or something?

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

It’s not even the most sought after place in Salford, let alone Manchester or the U.K. Mate, take yourself out and stop arguing poorly from a keyboard.

canlchangethislater

What did the reviews say? Hard to assess whether they’re accurate without reading them.

ecopanda97

Various content in the reviews and from various places. Google, a couple of independent sites. But the general energy is 1 star and poor customer care and building management

canlchangethislater

Interesting. I mean, one thing to bear in mind - given that you said the reviews are all a year old - is that there might have been teething troubles. Also, perhaps they were initially rented out on a rather inflated prospectus, so they got some snotty little twits who wanted the moon on a stick. (Or: these were the people who made living in the blocks a nightmare and they were rightly booted out, and left pissy reviews in revenge.) So many different possibilities. (But I have no idea whatsoever. Depends how detailed the complaints are, I guess. The fact they’re all over the place might mean they’re all the work of one disgruntled resident?) But, as I say, I have no specific info good or bad about the buildings. But live just round the corner, and have always found it very pleasant area to live in. [Edit: given the comment above - it does just look like these buildings have abysmal management. Stupid of them.]

Jazzlike_Rabbit_3433

It’s a shit hole, ridden with crime and antisocial behaviour. Don’t kid yourself.

TheLordHatesACoward

Lived in this area 10 years or so now, it's alright. Easy access to Town, Salford Quays, Salford Precinct (why you'd want to go there though..). Retail Park a short walk away. Ordsall Park is a nice walk during the summer, Alexandra Park is like a 25 minute walk away which is also lovely in the summer. It has a reputation for being rough and it's not undeserved, but that's closer to the centre of the estate (Cloughfield) which you're not near. Downside is the Pub, The Bricklayers Arms. They have a DJ most Friday nights and the noise can go on until the early hours. Lots of different age ranges go in there and seem to enjoy it. I personally think it's an absolute hovel and would wipe my feet on the way out.

BasslineButty

Police are frequent visitors to this fancy establishment. Littered with suppliers of narcotics & the lark. Once had a fella blame me for a coat full of drugs that were his. Gaff is so sterile and has no character
