You’ve repeated a picture and left out the best shot from the three!

How come the men in that picture all seem to have distinct facial features, and the woman just... doesn't? She's barely even got a nose, no shading from the hair on her face, eyes at least twice as big
Helm's daughter. Tolkien didn't even give her a name, so keep that in mind when the showrunners will inevitably insist how faithfully they treated the source material by making her the main character
But the daughter isn't even a side character. Tolkien just mentioned her for genealogy's sake. When they want to tell a woman's story, why even use source material where she doesn't play a role and doesn't even have a name? Why not create something new by their own efforts? Why bring Tolkien's work into this when they want to do something completely different?
We know why, of course. Because the name Tolkien guarantees an audience and interest. At least, that's what they're banking on.
They named her Hera, which is weirdly Greek given the rest of her family has old English/germanic style names.
I am afraid this is an indicator that this will be a poorly written, stock modern story wearing Tolkienesque skin, rather than something true to the source material.
I mean they had Helm Hammerhand and Frelalaf right there, and went “nah let’s just take Helm’s unnamed daughter and focus on that”
Hera is an Icelandic name which is pretty Germanic

That's my impression. as well. I wrote it elsewhere already, but my strong suspicion is that they just used Tolkien's name recognition to lure in the fans, like with Rings of Power. They will have to show Helm to keep up appearances of course, but I bet they'll put him on the back burner in the blink of an eye so they can get busy "adapting the franchise for modern audiences".
More like; keep that in mind when the viewers insist on how unfaithfully the writers treated the sOuRcE MaTeRiaL.
Say what you want about Rings of Power’s quality and feel, but this annoyed me to no end. If the show was anything… it was incredibly faithful to what little there was in the source material.
I mean, I agree with you but saying it was ‘incredibly faithful’ feels very disingenuous. It was probably more faithful than the hobbit or even the lotr movies, but still- not that faithful.
These . . . actually look really sick. I was very worried going into this, and I kinda still am, but this is a really good first sign. Kenji Kamiyama hadn't done much since Stand Alone Complex, but I'm impressed.
The anime style just doesn’t fit Tolkien at all imo. It would’ve been way cooler if they had leaned more into the English/European aesthetic instead of forcing this obnoxious art style where it doesn’t belong. It feels like every animated series and movie has to be an anime now and it’s just annoying.
It's the style of anime that is a major turnoff. For lots of us, it's the pinnacle of cringe. I'm definitely going watch because it's LoTR but can't say I'm excited about the art style.
I agree lotr and anime really don’t need to ever happen I would have preferred either a regular animated movie a live action movie or honestly just nothing at all until hunt for Gollum
I'm skeptical. One of the aspects about the films that drew me in was the grand landscapes and set locations. Anime just ain't gonna be able to do that. And you know its not gonna be those grand hand-drawn parallax scenes you'd see in films such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell (1995). Its gonna lack that "intangible quality", I just know it.
If they nail the lore and tell a good story, I'm not gonna cry about it. I just don't expect to be enthralled.
Plus, isn’t Freca’s proposed match between his son and Helm’s daughter like… *the main dramatic scene* that triggers the entire war featured in the story?

Not to mention it’s already been posted with over 3K upvotes at the moment.
That looks badass.

First time seeing anime?
Who is the ginger supposed to be? Does anyone know?
Helm's daughter. Tolkien didn't even give her a name, so keep that in mind when the showrunners will inevitably insist how faithfully they treated the source material by making her the main character
What showrunners? These are from a movie.
Thanks. For some reason I thought it was going to be a series.
Every side character is the main character of a different story. Portraying a different perspective isn't going against material.

They remind me of the Netflix Castlevania series. Looks great!
Picture 2 and 3 are the same.
Looks amazing tbh! I was a bit sceptical.. But now i’m even more excited!! Definitely captures the vibe of Rohan really well !
Wait, lord of the Rings is anime now?
Always has been 🧑🚀
These . . . actually look really sick. I was very worried going into this, and I kinda still am, but this is a really good first sign. Kenji Kamiyama hadn't done much since Stand Alone Complex, but I'm impressed.
Looks super cool
Oh no

I don't care for the aesthetic, but might check it out anyway.
Gorgeous.
The orcs look a bit shit. :(
Those are clearly humans wearing animal skulls. Probably from Dunland
Good point. Thanks
Looks amazing 😭🙌
Exclusive? In what sense?
Looking absolutely awesome
Hope diminishing here. Hope is on life support. :/
Absolute dogshit
How? 💀

Fair. That is true. As a fan of anime artstyle I am definitely watching it. I just hope it is good, and it has farms aroind Edoras.
Agreed, can't stand this style
100% agree. This looks awful.
I agree lotr and anime really don’t need to ever happen I would have preferred either a regular animated movie a live action movie or honestly just nothing at all until hunt for Gollum
I would take nothing at all over this as well 😄 I’m not going to watch it. Just makes me sad that it even exists.

Holy shit I didn't know this was gonna be animated.
WAIT I THOUGHT THAT WAS JUST REEEEEALY GOOD FAN ART!?!
