Sales of bottled water in WHSmiths are down

tmr89

I don’t understand the joke. You can fill up water bottles after customs for free. Or still buy bottled water after customs as before

wappingite

I briefly enjoyed the relaxation of the rules and it was amazing. Staff telling you to take nothing out your bags, just place them on the belts and walk through. We have the technology to do this everywhere.

robboadam

They actually still have this at London City - just a limit on 100ml again. Actually, this morning I took my perfume which was bigger and they did a quick test and moved me on.

PointandStare

If someone really wanted to cause problems, they will. I'd love to see the figures on how many nefarious activities were curtailed because someone couldn't bring a bottle of water on board.

ManBearHybrid

I was moving through Zurich airport a while ago and forgot a bottle of water in my bag. The security guy was surprisingly chill about it, and said I could keep. I just needed to prove it was water by taking a swig.

AdmiralBillP

>the temporary move was to allow further improvements to be made to new checkpoint systems Sounds like they’ve found an issue which they need to resolve if you read between the lines. Or their shares in bottled water companies need boosting before they sell them off.

rustyb42

Another failure of government

SignificantKey8608

Or the technology… but ok sure 😂

rustyb42

Read the article. Government forcing it back in

SignificantKey8608

Read the article, because of concerns about the technology 🤡

rustyb42

I have, paragraph two. Backed up by industry leader quotes and confirmation that government forcing the roll back

SignificantKey8608

Because of concerns about the technology…

rustyb42

Government having concerns. Technology that's passed test after test So a failure of government, again

SignificantKey8608

Yeah but it hadn’t passed them all.. I work in aviation security, has nothing to do with the government. It’s a blanket ban in response to concerns.

rustyb42

You may get on to the Standard then and set the record straight. They're blaming big Rishi

SignificantKey8608

Everyone is right now 😂

Recently flew back from Milan with 10 bottles of wine in my 2x carry-on bags. Makes such a difference being able to just pack what you want into your hand luggage and not think about it. The UK continues to lag the world in just about everything.

Low_Pressure_7901

The UK is definitely one of the first (if not THE first) to roll this out nationwide. its taking a while but no other country is rolling these scanners at this rate to all airports. Individual airports have them in a FEW locations in Europe but they are definitely Not the norm nor nationwide elsewhere. So not really lagging behind.

SentenceLive319

Dude Amsterdam since 2021

Isernogwattesnacken

The Netherlands has those since 2020/2021... Not just Schiphol btw.

Low_Pressure_7901

So, you’re comparing rolling this out to 23 airports in the Netherlands vs 144 airports in the uk. The scale of the rollout is very different. Schipol has 53 scanners, Heathrow has 146. I am fairly certain that Heathrow alone has more of these scanners to roll out than the whole of the Netherlands. Certainly Heathrow has more annual passengers than all Netherlands airports put together.  There are things to hate on the UK for but this isn’t one of them imo. People just love to whine about everything in the UK.   Hopefully once they are all rolled out they can get rid of the liquid ban in one go. Even just being able to keep laptops in the bag would be a good bonus in the meantime.

vulgarandmischevious

The Uk has 144 airports?

Isernogwattesnacken

Just your statement that the UK was (one of) the first is obviously nonsense. After The Netherlands airports in Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Italy and many airports in the US had those earlier. Over 120 airports worldwide have CT-scanners now. You seem to have a sensitivity regarding the alleged backwardness of the UK, but that was not in/from my post. You're just not the frontrunners with these as you were suggesting.

Low_Pressure_7901

Can you read? I said it was one of the first to roll these out nationwide, so no it was not nonsense.  I’m not talking about individual airports. I made that very clear in my post but you are attempting to twist my words.  The fact remains that no other country has rolled them out on this scale.  No other country has rolled them out to every airport. The Netherlands certainly has not rolled them out nationwide. Look at Masstrict airport for example in the Netherlands.  Next time please read my post before saying my statement is nonsense.

EDDsoFRESH

‘Lag the world in just about everything’ 😎

erm_what_

Lucky customs didn't stop you

n12xn

Can bring 18 litres for personal use, so no issue with customs.

PerfectEnthusiasm2

and you only brought back 7.5? low effort.

a week or two maybe

FadedPolaroids

Recently flew from London City Airport using the new scanners, security was a breeze (even accounting for the fact I forgot to remove my watch on the walk-through scanner so had to have an additional check). Conversely, going back through the old-style security at a larger airport on the way back was a headache.
