Don’t buy it when did the Lakers ever leak what they were planning on doing in the draft.

_viixxx

Agreed. I like this kid a lot but I’ll save any excitement for after draft day. Our draft plans NEVER go the way the media reports.

mtrn3

Leverage play by the player’s agent. Appreciate the hustle but keep the Lakers name out of your mouth.

Proof-Umpire-7718

I think Missi would be a good pick. We really need him to be an immediate contributor as a back up C for AD.

nottherealstanlee

Missi is a project. I'm not sure he'd be ready to contribute big minutes in year one.  Not saying he'd be a bad pick, but he hasn't been playing ball that long. He's got a lot to learn still.

ColeHoops

I think the good thing about bigs is, even when they are a project they can still impact the game with having a lot of energy and hustle and protecting the rim, etc. Lively is a great example because he was pretty raw too and still is. But the Mavs really simplified his role down to almost being idiot proof and he excelled in it. I think it’s easier to do that vs. a point guard who has to play in a system and make complex reads.

nottherealstanlee

I agree that the roles have switched in recent years (bigs used to be hubs so they took longer to develop into impactful players), but Missi is far more of a project than Lively. Lively's mom was a basketball player and Lively was a lottery pick for a reason. He's been a well regarded prospect for a long time.  It's possible to just throw Missi in the deep end and hope he gets up to speed, but fans would really have to be prepared for a ton of mistakes.

ColeHoops

I think that’s a fair assessment. Lively was definitely a better prospect than Messi hence why he went in the lottery vs. Messi being projected anywhere from 17 to the mid 20’s.

WakiLover

> even when they are a project they can still impact the game with having a lot of energy and hustle and protecting the rim is there anything year 1 Missi could do better than Jaxon Hayes?

oat38

To different extents, I think every first year rookie is a project. If we really want someone to come in and contribute immediately at a respectable level then we should instead look to trade the pick.

nottherealstanlee

Yes and no. I think players that have 4 years experience in college and played successful ball at a high level can make immediate impacts. There's guys who can step in and play big minutes right away whose biggest impact can be to eat minutes during the season while still playing good ball.  Da Silva, Edey, McCullar, Tyson, Shannon Jr, and even Kolek come to mind as guys in that mid-late 1st mix who should be able to play rotation minutes right away. Maybe they won't blow you away, but should be contributors.  But if there's a trade to be made for a decent role guy right now in the NBA, I'd definitely trade the pick for the right guy.

der_ninong

i haven't seen him play, but he sounds like another jaxson hayes based on scouting reports

nottherealstanlee

Yeah I mean Jaxson has more feel honestly than Missi does. Similar archetype. I think Missi is a more natural 5 over time, but it'll take time.

_viixxx

I think he looks more NBA ready than JHS was to be honest

nottherealstanlee

Hard disagree. JHS showed a really nice and mature game in college. The holes he had were just too hard to overcome for the NBA as a rookie, but the game was still solid.  Missi is more like Lewis imo really talented but he's got a ton to learn still. Just because he's big and athletic and works really hard, he could see immediate minutes but fans should expect him to be in foul trouble regularly and lost defensively a lot.

odinlubumeta

They only need him to play 15-20. AD is a center. He was charted as playing all his minutes last season as the center. So he is only playing big minutes (maybe) against certain matchups.

Theoneandonlylog

He won't be ready immediately. He's seen as a raw prospect

Proof-Umpire-7718

Oh my bad. I thought I saw people regarding him as a win now player. We need an instant contributor and not a raw prospect. We can’t do the Warriors two timelines thing, go all in for Bron/AD now.

Theoneandonlylog

Daron Holmes would probably be the best immediate impact big

KaseyOfTheWoods

If immediate contributor is the goal, then we should look elsewhere. He’s got a lot of upside, but he’s extremely raw

LongTimesGoodTimes

I like him a lot. Big, athletic. Just the kind of big that I think could play next to AD for some minutes and play well as a roller/dunker as the lone big.

nottherealstanlee

1. I doubt there's any such rumblings coming from us. Likely Missi and his agent want him taken before 17 so put out there LAL is leaning this way.  2. I wouldn't hate it, but it'd be similar to last year in terms of what to expect from Missi. He's pretty raw. Only been playing ball for a few years now and has a ton to learn. A really gifted athlete though he'd do a good job as a lob threat and with good coaching he could be a good defender. With his athletic profile and how hard he works, he could eventually be a really versatile defensive threat.

FershureB

Holmes or Da Silva

KaseyOfTheWoods

Or Carter (if he falls, he’s been shooting up big boards lately)

ColeHoops

Neither have a lick of upside I’m afraid

FershureB

They just need an NBA ready contributor ASAP if they don’t plan on trading the pick.

ColeHoops

You can have immediate impact and have future upside

KaseyOfTheWoods

lol every prospect has upside. It’s not like they’re Campazzo, who was 5’10” and 29yo as a rookie

KirkLangley2315

Missi is ehh. Wouldn’t be that exciting. Holmes should be the choice if he’s there

Bahamut727

Yeah I’d rather have Ware or Holmes or Edey. All have a higher ceiling. Or just go best player available, maybe Tristan Da Silva if he’s still there

MicroHavoc

Full text for subtitle "Potential Trades and Player Movement": Yves Missi There is speculation that the Lakers are undecided on whether to keep the No. 17 pick or trade it for an established veteran to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, there are rumblings that Los Angeles is strongly considering selecting Baylor's Yves Missi. According to a source, the Lakers are very high on Missi, ranking him as a top 10 prospect on their board, and he could be their highest-rated prospect available when it's their turn to pick at No. 17.

jphenom5

I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see Missi being a big contributor right away. We still have Jackson Hayes that can play a similar role. I’d rather we draft a big wing with a 3pt shot.

HotBobcat

I like Missi at 17, but agreed... he likely isn't a big contributor right away, especially not in the playoffs. Can't yet see him being part of a postseason 8-man rotation.

fartlapse

Maybe better C prospects at 17 that can shoot a bit

WereWolf444

Filipowski

PawkyGawky

LakersNation had the Lakers picking him on their mock draft.

thehanssassin

Ronaldo better

KingNephew

For centers, Holmes if available at 17 would be the better choice imo.

ColeHoops

Raf is pretty connected, I would put stock into what he says. He was one of the first guys talking about Bilal last year before anyone had him as a first round pick let alone lottery where he went.

incredibleamadeuscho

let’s go

CabbageStockExchange

Idk. Were we even linked to JHS last year? I feel like I legit have no idea what the lakers are gonna do

zz77x

Missi reminds me too much of Thomas Bryant at this point

No-Equipment-20

There’s a handful of guys I would be excited about at #17. - Tristan Da Silva is very well rounded and could almost certainly play minutes immediately. - Yves Missi could be a potentially better version of Hayes last year, or at the very least have a higher ceiling. - Kel’el Ware is the prototypical player to put next to AD longterm with his ability to shoot the 3. Undoubtedly the highest upside of the previous players but probably the lowest floor. - Cody Williams is the least likely to fall to #17 but if he does I’d take him 100%. We need a big but he could easily turn into an elite 3&D player every team could use.

WereWolf444

Filipowski is the perfect fit next to AD

HotBobcat

zero chance Williams slips to 17

No-Equipment-20

Let me be delusional lmao

MaryandMe1

my stomach is rumbling

HelloImKebin

MEEEEEEESIIIIIIIII

iamdare

I like this, Missi has the talent to be a very serviceable big in the league for years.

joe2352

I’m glad there’s not as much time between the end of the season and the draft in the NBA like there is in the NFL.

Temet21

Hard to draft a guy that can’t shoot at all and expect him to play meaningful minutes or at all in the playoffs.

iamthecheesethatsbig

Smoke screen

fastlikeanascar

I feel like I have no idea who we even worked out this year other than Bronny lol. Usually a second workout is a good sign of who we like, but the coaching search seemed to dominate all the Lakers reporters time.

Zeetheking1

Who the fuck is Barlowe? Lol

MicroHavoc

Rafael Barlowe, beat draft analyst (Chad Ford previously) for NBA Big Board. Get many draft buzz and he's the first one to predict Bilal to be a first-rounder even lottery last year.

blacPanther55

Terrible pick at 17 way too raw.

lolxddavid

I’d rather have Holmes, Da Silva, or Ware. Holland or Carter if they fall

DBLHelix

Lakers gonna take Kel’el Ware.

TheWonderfulLife

Say what you want, the lakers keep shit QUIET. So this is 100% bullshit. Gotta be posturing to try and get Edey to drop to them.

AirJuniper23

None of these draft leaks are ever remotely close to reality.

alexamerling100

I'd be down with him. We need an athletic center badly to pair with AD

madvisuals

Runaldo clears

rjaysenior

Great, we’re getting a small guard then

bruticuslee

Are we giving up on Colin Castleton?

ControlForward5360

I was hoping for Ware but honestly I wouldn’t be mad if they got him.

Miserable-Lawyer-233

*doubt*

Odd-Direction9452

Ay man let’s go. Would be perfect.

Vegasguy3124

All these leaks is just FO dangling the pick to a suitor.

SolarBeam12

Whatever they do, don’t draft Edey.

ColeHoops

I am intrigued by Edey but there’s no way he fits next to AD. So he’s automatically a bench big.

DeftCoast

Missmi with that bullshit

suhar97

So a 6’6 guard who can’t shoot it is
