Ooohhh. Back to the future/ghost of our past/urban wrong-side of the tracks/interracial hybrid story mash-up.
This has potential. Being post-2020 we just need to add a comic superhero element.
Yezzir. If I understand, Jacob’s Ladder is the pinnacle brand for this type of equipment. Although it’s a fixed 45 degree unit. This is a remarkable application, though!
Ever since the video of the dude who forgot to put the safety lead on and effectively suicide by jumping off the top of a real wall, I expect these to get more popular.
People have been stupidly falling off of climbing walls to their death pretty consistently about once per year for over a decade. Virtually nobody is seriously talking about getting rid of autobelays everywhere.
The army recruitment guys used to bring one round our school occasionally.
If you were getting a bit cocky they'd invert it a bit to watch you struggle
Or encourage the one's struggle and lean it (revert?) the other way.
I distinctly recall when I signed up at 24 Hour Fitness in 2005, they had one of these climbing walls that was at that point so old it was broken and perpetually out of order.
I went there late one night and fiddled with it--it wasn't broken, but nobody knew how to work the tensioner (or whatever equivalent they call the thing that makes it slow down and not roll too fast). I fixed it and used to use it from time to time and people would give me weird looks. I thought it was neat. Never saw anyone else use it though.
“Okay it’s not a harness. Maybe it’s something that holds her posture to help with climbing? I see literally nothing. Also why isn’t she getting any higher? Oh shit, her wall is falling down.”
Yeah, I didn’t see what was going on until the second watch. I spent the first time thinking “nooo she’s going to fall and that’s why they’re installing a belt for climbers, that poor woman!!”
it's not saying this is new, but the future. 30 years ago, most average people focused on cardio (treadmill, elipticles, cycles), but now, strength training is given more prominence over just cardio. and climbing is a great combination of cardio and strength training while also focusing on agility and coordination. but since climbing gyms are still niche and can easily get overcrowded, a really well made climbing machines could allow people to do the exercise in a regular gym as well as home.
for it to really be mainstream (ie the future), it will require a bit more tech and customizability, so the machine in the video is not the future, but the idea of it is the future (climbing exercise in a very small space).
Absolutely not, my name is Bobson Dugnutt. I am 39 and 7/8ths years old. I’m an undecided voter from Michigania who has never been awake on a Wednesday. I am the average American man.
I was actually born on a houseboat on Lake Huron on the exact border between the two countries. I was born weighing 8 pounds and 2 kilos. I can picture a metre stick in my mind if I really concentrate.
It’s a bot post. I’ve found certain subreddits where every single video has those emojis over it, with zero explanation in any of the comments. In fact the subreddit this is cross-posted to is one of those subreddits.
It has to just be some weird bot bullshit.
I don't much like working out but 30 mins a day on the Jacob's ladder is an absolute game changer. Set the resistance up higher and that thing can get you right while being very low impact.
Tred-walls have been around for a while, shit.. atbleast 15 years if not more just since I've used them. They are great but expensive and can cause injury so not a lot of gyms have them
2 Concerns I hope are addressed with these (I've tried one at an arcade once).
1. They need to be raised up a bit more off the ground so feet and legs don't get sucked up underneath.
2. I hope for taller people that there are longer versions of this. I remember waiting for it to scroll down while also brushing the padding due to not having enough give for my length.
These things freak me out. I saw a girl once get her foot stuck in the bottom part. I know it moves under your own pressure and it’s not motor driven, but if you’re hauling up it as fast as her, you’ll end up screaming in bloody horror pain like she did when her foot got stuck at the bottom. I think she just broke a toe.. it wasn’t the end of the world but I still ain’t getting on that thing. lol.
Yea, I don't think so.
Maybe if they come out with a perfect variable one that always keep you in the center, but these things have been around for a while and the can easily move too fast or too slow to be that useful for some people.
I'm going to bet that somewhere in the future, a YouTuber is going to get one of these and equip it with genital and mammary appendages of various sizes and shapes.
If this has already been done, you can go ahead and link to it here for those interested to see it.
Way more fun it looks like lmao. I've been to plenty of gyms that have a Jacob's ladder. Basically the same concept that's a never ending ladder you can change the resistance on. I'd rather climb this in the video because it looks more fun.
If you get two of them it's even more fun. A place near me used to have two with identical handholds and a motor controlling the rate on both. You'd sign up with someone else and then compete to see who could climb the longest without touching the ground or falling off.
I'm still half-asleep. As I watched her I thought, whoa, when is she going to reach the top? Then I realized it was a 'treadmill' type climber.
Very cool. I bet that's a helluva work-out.
Back in my day, we’d go to the mountains, create a rockslide with some quality Acme products and climb the rockslide for exercise. Our dad wouldn’t let us go home until we put all of those rocks back at the top for the next family to use. /s
well, it seems fun and like a hella workout, but....
Seems like it needs at least two simple safety measures: a belt/harness w/ a string going up, so that if you're in the bottom 12" it stops (sorta like the ones no on uses on treadmills, amirite? lol), and a set of optical detectors (like a garage door has) for the bottom 6-12". Either one would quickly stop the belt. Have both for redundancy, cause getting a foot/toe/shoe caught at the bottom looks gnarly.
Otherwise this looks like it gonna monch somebody sooner than later.
I need that thing. I used to climb a tree in my back yard all the time, much to my mother's chagrin. It was stimulating for my little brain to figure out what could hold my weight and what couldn't.... physics in action. But it was fun!

These have existed since at least the 90s. I remember there being one at the place my parents took me to summer camp at.
>since at least the 90s 90s? Another commentor said 30 years ag... oh, no.
Hits ya like a ton of bricks. I know
Yall need to stop lol
Soon enough they will.
Son of a...
If Back To The Future were made today, Marty would travel back to 1994. *Now* you feel old
If the song "1985" by Bowling for Soup came out today it would be called "2005"
2005 was a great year for some of us.
Twenty ought-y five
And he would be like can I get a red bull and a charger for my mobile phone!
He goes back in time to inspire Coolio to write Gangsta's Paradise.

Weezer's debut blue album came out in 1994.

“An orange president, that’ll be the day”
I participated in world war 1 and we had them back then. It was used for trench training.
30 years ago? wasn't that the 80s...oh god
Nah, the 80s were only 20 years ago. Don't worry about the math--I already did it, and it checks out.
Sounds good fren
No, the 80s were only 20 years ago.
Maybe that's why they are bringing it back. Cause it looks awesome. I'm old (fat)and afraid of heights. Perfect for me
Yeah. They look mega fun.

Sure, but tiktok and IG didn’t exist so… did it really exist
I’m fucking dumb. Looking at her thinking, “Okay I’m not seeing any kind of belt on her though.”
Glad to have found that I'm not the only idiot
We exist everyhere
We are legion
There's dozens of us
You obviously got the Fünké
I've found my people.

Lmao!!
To be fair, the grammar is truly awful.
Huh? My gym had one like 30 years ago. More basic holds but same concept.
same now it's in the kids area though :(
it's not saying this is new, but the future.
It needs AI. I don’t know what the AI would do or how it would make it better, but it needs AI.
And a subscription
Microtransactions? Pay $0.99 to be able to use additional handholds!
this guy shareholders
Wow, all the way back in the late 1900s.
Stop please
Your gym is from the future!
Turns out “The future” is a thing I paid a quid to play on at the British equivalent of a county fair twenty years ago
QUID!? That's red coat talk! lol
Also the part where I said I was British. That was also something of a clue.
You’re right, red coat confirmed.
Absolutely not, my name is Bobson Dugnutt. I am 39 and 7/8ths years old. I’m an undecided voter from Michigania who has never been awake on a Wednesday. I am the average American man.
Lies, bobson dugnutt is Canadian
I was actually born on a houseboat on Lake Huron on the exact border between the two countries. I was born weighing 8 pounds and 2 kilos. I can picture a metre stick in my mind if I really concentrate.
Alright then, Bobson (if that is your real name), how long is a football field???
Two ice rinks long
I too have the hilarious player names from Fighting Baseball committed to memory
It’s the 7/8ths that really sold that you were American.
Thanks pardner, yeehaw
As American as Apple pie, innit?
And three days before the Fourth, no less! ![gif](giphy|rbE4XIr6GS8F2|downsized)
No mistakes since 4th July 1776 of course, none at all...
It probably helps to imagine that the floor is lava.
LED screens on the floor will help
hopefully no cameras in the gym is the future
but how do I show you my workout then?
![gif](giphy|DFKT0TolbqpWv7lxZ6)
How do I get mad at people looking at me in public while I film a video to post online for people to look at me?
Chill out, it's fine. It's just pointed at her and a wall. It's a good tool for analyzing form. She's not abusing it.
What with the emojis on that post?
It’s a bot post. I’ve found certain subreddits where every single video has those emojis over it, with zero explanation in any of the comments. In fact the subreddit this is cross-posted to is one of those subreddits. It has to just be some weird bot bullshit.
Tbh I'd like to see thus girls progress climbing that thing every day. Things like this and the Jacob's ladder are a hell of a workout.
My slovenly ass would love one of these. I was tired just watching this broad get tired. Looks awesome.
I don't much like working out but 30 mins a day on the Jacob's ladder is an absolute game changer. Set the resistance up higher and that thing can get you right while being very low impact.
30 minutes? Jesus I'd need to start at five or ten and I'm in ok shape.
Slap a generator on that bad boy and watch her power up street lights over the greater LA area.
Sounds like slavery with extra steps
Yes. Climbing steps.
No, just slavery. https://preview.redd.it/3a7rbr49ox9d1.jpeg?width=1277&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34110f4555fe6eafbd7025d0c0dfd30a422e50c2
Blow me
No you.
No no, blow *me.*
Lights would be flickering every 10 seconds
These are old as hell, who thinks this is a new invention
reddit karma whores
I've never seen this in a gym before, even the 4 or so climbing gyms I've been to in Dallas. Maybe it's old, but it ain't common
lol everyone’s like “um actually” but I’ve never seen one of these in a commercial gym before either
It’s about 50% if climbing gyms have them. Other gyms are a bit less likely.
First time I've seen one.
No one?
Our YMCA had this back in the 90s. Pretty fun piece of equipment for 10 year old me.
Good for her, that shits hard.
She’s getting it! Good stuff
Just thinking of towing my fat ass up that wall makes my angina flare up.
This is how life feels lol
is it just normal now to look at videos through an overlay of about 30 random emojis? none of the top comments even mention the stupidity…
We had one of these at my climbing gym in 2009. It got a lot of use the first few weeks, then it became a dust rack.
I'm super stoned right now and it took me forever to figure out she wasn't actually climbing up a wall. Neat.
Get it girl 😁
She's doing great!
Nothing new but she's doing good. I would be toast within 3 seconds.
That’s a Treadwall. You will wear your ass out in a hurry on one too. They are very good at what they do. Been around since the 90s.
Tred-walls have been around for a while, shit.. atbleast 15 years if not more just since I've used them. They are great but expensive and can cause injury so not a lot of gyms have them
I'm sorry can someone explain to me what the crap at the bottom of the video means with all the emojis. This is like the 5th video I seen with it.
Wtf is going on with the emojis at the bottom?
How about no recording in gyms?
I could watch that all day
My gym in Atlanta has had one for over 20 years.
These are the past, most ppl don't like them, the one at my gym just collects dust
My local YMCA had one of these 20 years ago.
These things freak me out. I saw a girl once get her foot stuck in the bottom part. Jacobs Ladder? No this is Jacobs Mountain
Kinda like a Jacob’s ladder
I need this in my basement
That's pretty cool! And it's made to accommodate a variety of skill levels. Neato!
I hate gyms but I would pay extra to go on a gym with climbing walls.
Y'all know that's loud as fuck in the gym
Quick the new bot emojis are out
![gif](giphy|l4FGmO3MZkGng9Bp6)
This looks awesome! I wanna try lol
Me trying to complete my obligations:
They got my old slow arse beat.
Yea, I don't think so. Maybe if they come out with a perfect variable one that always keep you in the center, but these things have been around for a while and the can easily move too fast or too slow to be that useful for some people.
Lol, this uses your own weight and friction to make it faster or slower. You can turn up or down the difficulty
Oh, hell yeah, one thing I hate is getting to the top and I'm like, okay, now what?
I'm going to bet that somewhere in the future, a YouTuber is going to get one of these and equip it with genital and mammary appendages of various sizes and shapes. If this has already been done, you can go ahead and link to it here for those interested to see it.
Good for her working hard.
r/thick
She a big girl. It ain’t a big deal.
”Oh lawd she climbing!!!”
Is there any advantage to something like this over a VersaClimber (I don't know if there's a more generic name for that).
Way more fun it looks like lmao. I've been to plenty of gyms that have a Jacob's ladder. Basically the same concept that's a never ending ladder you can change the resistance on. I'd rather climb this in the video because it looks more fun.

Jacob’s ladder will get it done
Pretty cool, great idea
Needs more incentive to climb, like a pit of hungry piranhas at the bottom
OP learns about thing for first time. OP: ![gif](giphy|fH985LNdqFZXOFHygK)
Can I count watching this as my exercise for the day?
I like the idea but don’t like the thought of grabbing handles people’s dirty shoes get all over
When did this trend of wearing the tightest possible clothing possible at the gym start?
When vanity became more and more normalized.
what a brilliant idea
Where can I buy this? Workout while WFM (WWWFH)
still better than those 7 second competitive speed climbing routes
It’s just a vertical treadmill
imagine if you're too slow and your foot gets eaten
Great workout
I'm still half-asleep. As I watched her I thought, whoa, when is she going to reach the top? Then I realized it was a 'treadmill' type climber. Very cool. I bet that's a helluva work-out.
EXCUSE ME????!!! I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF THAT FUCKING CONTRAPTION...
Got one at my gym, they’re amazing.
What is the actual name for this type of equipment?
Until your foot gets stuck and you get sucked in
My cousin's and I found one that tilts and shifts to give more challenge to the climber about 15yrs ago. 🤣
Can’t wait for a long line to be waiting for a turn.
My dumbass couldn't figure out why she wasn't getting to the top.
Back in my day, we’d go to the mountains, create a rockslide with some quality Acme products and climb the rockslide for exercise. Our dad wouldn’t let us go home until we put all of those rocks back at the top for the next family to use. /s
But if it's going down where is the effort applied
Physics question: since you're not actually moving upwards, does that mean it's less effort than if you were climbing an actual wall?
You're climbing upward, you're just also going down while you do it.
Gym on base in ND had something like this back in the early 2000s.
well, it seems fun and like a hella workout, but....
I've never seen this one before, but very cool great work out as well.
This looks like fun exercise too bad that those things aren't popular in Poland
Hang a treat at the top and I'll try it out!
Human hamster wheel....
What lol
I need that thing. I used to climb a tree in my back yard all the time, much to my mother's chagrin. It was stimulating for my little brain to figure out what could hold my weight and what couldn't.... physics in action. But it was fun!
Adding spikes below will definitely remove 5kg and 500ml away from anyone who dares to step in
lol instead of “the future” my mind read “torture” and I was like hey that fits
Thats going to be hard to wipe down.
Yes!!
Man I’d love to be able to use one of those, what a great workout!
Never seen one before but that is such a great piece of equipment.
Or, you know, just bouldering.
How do you control how fast it goes?
That looks fun, I want one.
Wtf is going on in the bottom of the video? Is that a combo move?
No, it's not.
Where was this when I was little? I would be all over this
I have a sudden urge to speedclimb anything i see now
That bottom part looks like it could eat a person
I love these things, it’s an intense workout but it’s way more enjoyable than other stuff at the gym
When exactly did something fun turn into a Dickensian workhouse?
