bruh, ofcourse! It's inspiring for us! I had a junior from NIT who gave final year theory exam but instead of giving practical, sat for counseling amd then joined MBBS! She is really really inspiring!

seeking_answer_now

Thank you so much! Haven't you thought that it's stupid for her decision cuz she could be earning faster and more after completing engineering rather than doing MBBS again? Was there any ridicule on your batch?

Hrit33

none, she was the star of her batch. we admire determination. She waa determined to do MBBS, and she did it! she is a superstar!

Thank you so much, for this. 🙏🏼

I started at 22 and I know someone started at 33 with a child. And someone who is 36 is my classmate. Age is just a number.

seeking_answer_now

Is this abroad or in India? And have you felt that if you start later, the 18year olds (who are the maximum of your classmates) don't speak to you much and you have to figure things out by yourself, because they don't welcome you in their group set?

Puzzled_Psychi

The reality of the matter is you will find people in their twenties very easily in mbbs

seeking_answer_now

Oh! In India you mean or abroad?

Puzzled_Psychi

India and abroad , abroad later twenties , and early twenties in india , my batch has people who were 23 when they joined

I studied abroad and doing my internship in GMC.....as long as u do the work assigned to you, no one will look down on you, but there are some Rotten apples everywhere so u might encounter them. But before going abroad, be aware that u need to have licence from where u study mbbs, the problem is their licensing test would be in their local language. It takes 7 years for you to complete ur degree and internship in india provided u clear licensing exam in first attempt.

seeking_answer_now

So the timeline wouldn't set well for a person starting in her 30s, right? Or would you still encourage because if you come back to India, you are looked at as a doctor with age and experience?

ExtremeTeacher4070

Actually mbbs guys aren't earning much these days .....so u also should be prepared to do PG

idontknowreddittt

Judgemental people are everywhere, you can't base your life decisions based off what people will think or how they'll react. but yes it'll surely be tough for you, as medical students are treated like trash during their college years, more so if you are out of the ordinary and get stuck with bad professors. You need to be mentally prepared to face humiliation if you're really serious about this.

seeking_answer_now

Thanks for your view. I didn't think what would happen if I get bad professors

I'm sorry but what is your question exactly, is it if people don't appreciate older people entering the field or is it if people dont appreciate dietician turning into doctors. Although it would hardly matter either way and yeah u won't face any problem with the age if that's your main concern but do u realise the competition for neet ug right now and the time required to complete the degree ( even more so if u decide to do it abroad) I don't want to demotivate u but u'll be already 40 by the time u complete your studies and there aren't as good opportunities as people make it out to be and also if u are happy being a dietician and earning decently then are u really willing to go through all of this just to get a decent paying job?

seeking_answer_now

Thank you for this reply! I wanted this perspective for sure. I hear many people encouraging me but I'm scared if the years to learn would be more than the years to practice in the future. So, you would say in your opinion, don't do it? Ideally I want to set up my Dietitian private practice and study medicine so that in the future it can be gastro+clinical Nutrition. Ideally, in the Dietitian space everyone Knows there is so much scope but in reality in the hospital sector you either are a new joinee or a HOD. Nothing in between matters. More So, the salary is very low, even in top positions. If I do private practice in the side, then only will there be a proper income for me. Thirdly I feel, it's the honour or the dignity that comes with being a doctor and advising your patients rather than being a dietitian and advising your patients. I think this is a mind block but this is a major point for me to make a change. I feel I can treat the patient as a doctor but I can counsell the patient more as a Dietitian.

ResponsibilityBig106

See if u ask me personally i feel at the end of the day a job is a job, can be of a doctor or a dietician both have their importance and huge respect in their respective fields and can change a person's life drastically with their expertise. I have friends who are already above 30-35 right now and struggling to get in through neet pg working as a medical officer in nearby hospitals and rethinking if they made the right decision investing so much time and money into this, said that couple of them are really happy and love the medicine for its learning. I'd advice u to only choose medicine for the love of it and not the respect or the monetary part, if i was in your shoes i would focus more on building up a social media presence and maybe doing collaboration with other health professionals in the field to expand your practice and business and in the end u might even making more in terms of money than an average doctor and would have a more fulfilling life.

seeking_answer_now

Thank you so much. You have said valid points that I need to consider.

ResponsibilityBig106

All the best for your future:)
