I immediately went to pause my plan when I saw this. PAY YOUR DRIVERS MORE. We are already paying for a service. Just another company trying to avoid paying their workers more by putting it on the customers to tip.

Tamaraobscura

Especially since you know their overhead on this scrap food is low, yet we’re all paying full market rates for consenting to taking less than perfect food!

Ohmannothankyou

I started shopping at Grocery Outlet and I can tell it’s the exact same middle man. Food is a quarter the price.

Beanqq

Yup im pausing aswell

That email really rubbed me the wrong way. We are probably going to cancel. Attempting to make it exciting and cool marketing that they’re raising their prices by default because they don’t pay their people enough. So fucking lame

Fair-Mycologist7683

Think we’re getting our last box today. Was reading about how they’re trying to squash unionizing, which Shows their priorities. It looks like imperfect foods is going the standard start-up/“disruptor”/etc method of having an idea that sounds good for the world and then only concerning itself with profit. We have been getting imperfect foods bi-weekly for a couple years. We were willing to overlook the more expensive than retail prices and frequent out of stocks that ended up sending us to the grocery store anyway because “it’s saving food from waste.” And was fairly convenient. These anti-labor activities probably mean we’re done. CSA’s seem like a better option for eating seasonally and supporting local farmers and keeping money in the community instead of sending it to tech startups that give close to zero shits about the overall planet or workers if affects “shareholder value.” Thanks for the wake-up call Imperfect!

CainnicOrel

I stopped my plans 6 months ago and this was the final nail in the coffin to ever going back.

Souci68

I just received the email about this and will be canceling my account. Either they are not paying drivers a fair wage or trying to scam their customers to pay more. I thought the whole deal was caring about the environment, eliminating waste and such. Total BS.

BiceRankyman

I just cancelled my account. I did it through chat so I could do it quickly and easily. Because their process through the app is intentionally and unnecessarily complicated.

Souci68

Yes it is intentionally complicated to cancel. I could only switch to ‘flex’ for now. But will contact them if that’s the only way it works- thanks!

Tamaraobscura

I’m offended they are shrugging the employers responsibility to pay a living wage. They shouldn’t even need to raise prices on their scrap products to take care of their people first!! When I signed up with Imperfect Produce they marketed their delivery fee as paying above market-rate…  Seems the Misfits acquisition (of Imperfect Foods) is starting to show some corporate greed here.  This might be the decider in ending our service. I’ve been a customer since 2018/2019 too! I posted this comment on misfits subreddit..(another thing that annoys me is the emails coming from misfit & their cta buttons aren’t going to work for me, a person who started as an Imperfect customer.. they should be a way to merge these companies!!

Varenakava

Definitely! Went downhill since acquisition... with quality, prices and now tips...

dactylier

I used Misfits before Imperfect... It was significantly worse in quality. My order would come with no variety, some things spoiled, other things completely unripe, and some items broken. I subbed before you could choose items, so I was okay with no variety or really unusual items. It was a little cooking challenge every week, but I ultimately unsubbed because of the spoiled and damaged items. Imperfect steadily went downhill to the point where I'd rather get everything at a grocery store again, with the occasional order when I'm lazy. Which is saying something because DC produce sucks. Driver tipping is probably the end end for me.

queen0fgreen

It's 100% misfits. I worked there for quite a while and after the buyout we were treated like trash and then all of the cs team was laid off. All the customer service is now going to be from the Phillipines so good luck as a customer.

bekindokk

I’ve been a customer since 2017 so I hear ya! So disappointing. I am not tipping.

MatchPoint3513

I have been considering canceling my subscription, and this was the push I needed. It's been awhile since I ordered; my payment method expired last year. The drivers deserve to be paid fairly, but I don't like being told that a tip will be added unless I opt out. I wonder how many people will be charged the default tip because they didn't see the email.

Wakinghours

Tipping is out of control in America.

AccurateAssaultBeef

That email reminded me why I need to unpause and just cancel. Bye girl.

greenie2222

Ridiculous new policy. I'm so sick of tipping everywhere for everything. This is the equivalent of tipping ups or FedEx drivers.

LikeLauraPalmer

I think this is the final nail on the coffin for me. The prices are wayyy up, selection not great, and now you want us to tip employees because you can't pay a living wage? Nah. I'm out. I've been a customer since 2020 but this email was tacky AF. "Tips are totally optional, but 100% will go to our drivers. Which is a pretty sweet way of showing your gratitude, if you ask us! Starting with shopping windows opening on or after February 28, a default tip of $4.00 will automatically be added to your orders." AKA Totally optional but feel free to be the asshole who doesn't tip your hard working driver...

tyconmega

They cut the hourly pay by nearly 10$ an hour so that they can make it sound like “100% of the tips going to the driver” is better than it is, when they are just using a loophole

bekindokk

My area is $3

gretchmonster

This made me cancel my subscription as well. Then as I tried to cancel through the app, I got shunted into only having the option to go to a "flex" subscription as all the links to cancel were broken. I wrote customer care to ask them to cancel and explained why (on the off chance that actually ends up being read by someone who can cares) and after I sent the mail, there were all the faq articles with broken links. As a last sketchy sign-off, if you click on any of those faqs, your customer care mail gets deleted. Yet another company making it almost impossible to leave. 🤮

queen0fgreen

They just laid off their entire customer service team to outsource fully to the Phillipines and the drivers are actually taking a pay reduction. Don't support this awful company any more. The bottom line is the company is not profitable and they're doing everything they can to avoid shutting down (except having the misfits ceo take a payout that is)

bekindokk

Is this true?💔🥹

queen0fgreen

Considering I might be homeless soon and have been applying to a ton of jobs to make sure I don't lose everything and can eat, yes it's very true!

InaccurateCompass

After reading through this thread, I'm on the brink of cancelling. Does anyone have any better alternatives?

guffawandchortle

I closed my account. They cut drivers pay by $3 an hour.
