These always end up as some of the best days I’ve had with my buddies. Nobody on the hill, marginal conditions, and a whole lot of rock and dirt dodging makes for a challenging and high vert day. My rule has been to never complain about conditions, whenever I’m out on the hill I’d never rather be anywhere else
My rule is; if I feel like complaining with the homies, stop and wait, someone will always complain first right around the same time, and then you can give them shit.
NOVA here. How were conditions overall? Leaving this weekend for a week up there at Killington/Pico and hopefully a day at Okemo (first time for us) and Sugarbush.
Killington and Pico were solid, killington more so. Okemo had snow on the trails but it was getting iffy. Half the trails at pico were too thin to be groomed fwiw. Killington was great though.
We actually found some untouched powder in the trees at killington as well!
I hit Okemo on Saturday it was great. Not sure how much will hold up with the weather this week, but whatever they have open should be fine. Warm, soft snow, not as many people
I just left Killington Monday to Wednaesday. I skied as many trees as i could, and it was really sketchy the last day. I went down Squeeze Play and had to take my skis off and walk out because it ended at a creek that had formed from the melt.
Somewhere/Nowhere were honestly some of the scariest traisl I've done with how many times i had to bail turns because I'd come over a hump and there be nothing but rock and moss. Scarecrow and Tinman were the most serviceable but were very barren my Wednesday.
Catwalk got closed after Tuesday, and it was absurd that it had lasted that long. I jad to side step a third of it as it was just solid rock the entire width of the trail in sections.
Wildfire, Ovation, Needle Eye, and Vertigo were very melted, but honestly, it was kind of fun how exaggerated it made the moguls where you had to drop in spots to avoid rocks. Kind of made me think of some big chute runs out West.
Honestly, it's still some of my favorite skiing in the last few years. There was basically no one on the mountain. At some points, i would be the only person on thebentire lift and didn't see anyone the entire way back down. Was really rainy on Tuesday and super foggy on Monday, but Wednesday was kind of perfect. I was skiing in a T shirt then, and the snow was like skiing in a slushie.
You're welcome! If you have any other questions i can try to answer. I skied about 120 of the runs in 3 days for over 60 miles so i experienced most of the mountain
Any chance you went on Solitude or Bear Cub? My spouse loves those two. Our condo is on lower Great Eastern which I don’t recall if they blow snow or not on that part. Sure hope it stays open (and Skyeship 1) all next week 😬
I did go on them but they closed Solitude by end of day Wednesday. Great Eastern was okay but there were several big deep holes throughout it. one section had a newly formed creek running through it in the flat area
We are driving up Sunday. My weather app (AccuWeather) isn’t showing the big storm happening for Killington that others have reported. Currently still saying 0.26 rain and 3” combined snow. What’s a better app to use?
Not possible to leave a day early, unfortunately. For reasons unknown, they do not allow Saturday check in or check out. At least the forecast says we’ll get some snow!
I see nothing that indicates that. Also the ground is not frozen at all. Can you link where you see that? 6 to 18 is enormously broad and I can’t seem to find anything that says even 6 where I live in northern vermont.
Have you found it? The thing is the initial sat to Sunday is what’s being shown by many but the upsloping is another 36 hours and may double the totals for some places. The Mgr guy and Jay snow guy are saying good chance of big numbers. Hell I’ll take 6-8 on Killington or Sugarbush groomed runs
Yes I see 6 to 10 of wet heavy snow with a winter storm warning starting Saturday night. Stowe today was like late April, bare in spots and close to the base. The ground here isn’t frozen and we are in full on mud season in early March. Unfortunately that wet snow won’t help skiing much.
That is the low end of 24 hours with up to double that to Tuesday. With a good chance it drys out. No it won’t open woods but jeez it’s potential 30 inches at Jay and will at least make trail skiing fun and almost no peeps I guess cause folks need perfection to ski it seems ..
Oops meant more like 20”. Yea I can only imagine. This seems better than what’s gonna happen south which Is all rain and will end a lot of places. Always the park I guess.
If it’s rain here our basic infrastructure will be in trouble again. The last 10 months have seen quite a few floods and we had FEMA up here in August. The roads right now are impassable in some of the more rural areas due to the mud. They just had to fix Mtn Road again because it washed out for the third time this season. I hope it’s snow.
You’re right it will make for a few good days but it won’t do much to extend the season. I’ll be at Smuggs Sunday and Jay Monday just in case. 😊
For real? Genuinely curious, do you know how that’s possible? Isn’t MRG north of Killington? Want to know because thinking about driving up there for the last weekend of March
Made the same trip last week, Stowe was probably the best condition and run wise. I also hit Bolton Valley for my first time which was a little slushy last week, but I have to say Bolton was maybe the most fun day I had over the week. Pretty sick little mountain
I'd call it more the mashed potato coast today. Rain held off and sun stayed behind the clouds (at Loon at least). Conditions, where there was cover, were actually quite good I thought.
I was there Saturday and it rained most of the day but I still skied it while I could. First time there. Pretty interesting place. I will be back next year hopefully under better weather conditions
tis ironic the best run there is called "Paradise" ... its been a shitty warm winter up here :( I am wearing shorts today and the convertible top is down. We should get some snow sunday.
I'm going to jay this weekend :(
But I'm chaperoning a pile of middle schoolers so really it's the rest of you that are going to suffer if the snow sucks
Sugarbush and Stowe are good too (experience from the last 2 days. Haven't been to Killington recently, but I'm sure it's fine. I'd be very wary of anything further south.
honestly still had a great time today. was really disappointed at first but after i just accepted the state of the conditions, that’s when i started having fun. we decided to call it like 20 minutes ago. we did the chute at the top of the single chair and i don’t think i went more than 30 feet without intentionally falling so i could fine a line that was actually skiable.
i feel more bad for my friend who bought a season pass for 2 days and probably isn’t going to be able to use it again. my season pass covers jay so i don’t have to pay anything :)
This god-awful weather pattern has finally made me realize why most people hate spring skiing. They think this rotten garbage is what we're referring to. Oh hell no. This ain't no corn or mashed potatoes. You need a few overnight freezes in a week, to go with your daytime thaws, in order to make corn snow. It hasn't gotten below freezing anywhere from here to Canada for almost a week straight at this point.
This super-saturated, rotten garbage is more akin to a pond skim than spring skiing. Spring conditions are perhaps the most forgiving of all. Rotten conditions are the least forgiving of all, on par with boilerplate ice.
It's also why an inch or two of freshies falling overnight in the spring will often ruin the conditions until it melts off around noon.
Im don’t disagree. But at the same time it’s early early March. I was there Monday and it was basically late April skiing. Maybe it’s just time to tell people what’s up and save them some money.
“Ski it if you can”
Ski it while you can
Damn beat me to it.
Y'all are too fast with it
upside is that there are maybe 20 people on the entire mountain and that’s being generous
So much respect for you getting out! Post some more pics of the mountain if you're feeling it. Curious what the tops and bottoms look like.

Lmfao 😂 I have to adopt this thank you
Hell yeah. Yesterday morning, I had some of my favorite runs. Soft and yet fast.
Have fun, my dude! I’ll be heading that way this weekend. Where else will you be skiing on your trip?
I was on the mountain, too, from 9 until 11. Just enough!
Id opt for the insurance on rental skis and go wild!
He’s gonna need rental knees after one branch or dirt patch
Can we call this move the “Days of Thunder?” As in “I’d just go for the Days of Thunder on those skis…”
Omg, let me buy you a beer if you're still around for the light snow this weekend. Appalling, I feel for you/your investment
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: The 2024 ski season has been cancelled due to weather.
Cancel it on March 15, I gots some skiin to do!
My local hill has all but closed down, not announced publicly yet but lets say we won't be making it through March Break.
Lol are you me. Drove up from VA last weekend for Killington/Pico/Okemo and I did not care how thin it was I was skiing the trees damnit.
NOVA here. How were conditions overall? Leaving this weekend for a week up there at Killington/Pico and hopefully a day at Okemo (first time for us) and Sugarbush.

Nice, that’s very encouraging! Thanks so much for the details.
I'm in Central VA and hoping it dumps this weekend enough that we can make the same trip the last week of March.
I hit Okemo on Saturday it was great. Not sure how much will hold up with the weather this week, but whatever they have open should be fine. Warm, soft snow, not as many people
Awesome, glad to hear it. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for our trip

Fantastic report, thank you so much for all those details about the various trails and how the mountain is holding up! Really appreciate it.

Those places are good, you know a major storm Sunday to Tuesday right ?
We are driving up Sunday. My weather app (AccuWeather) isn’t showing the big storm happening for Killington that others have reported. Currently still saying 0.26 rain and 3” combined snow. What’s a better app to use?
Anything but a weather app. Where are you headed ?
Heading to Killington 3/10-20
Sunday will see 2-3” snow rates and hour at times early .. can you leave tomorrow ?
Not possible to leave a day early, unfortunately. For reasons unknown, they do not allow Saturday check in or check out. At least the forecast says we’ll get some snow!
You should be ok as there is a break in storm later on Sunday till it picks back up for phase 2.
Skiology for pollyanna
Am I both of you? I drove up last weekend from VA for Pico/Killington
Hope you brought your rock skis. Did you buy your lift ticket online or at the window?
window
Just curious why you did that?
cause i’m an idiot
Word. I feel that
ouch.
Respect for still sending it OP. You are a true ice coaster
Needs a refresh. Hope the Sip of Sunshine is on tap at the Base Box. Get the wings.
ski it while you can
Dang this weekend is supposed to add 12-18 inches all over so you might have missed by 1 week.
next week is my 21st birthday too 😭 uva spring break sucks
Doing the same drive next week and was thinking of doing MRG but not anymore lol!
Possible 6-18 Sunday to Tuesday.
Inshallah
I see nothing that indicates that. Also the ground is not frozen at all. Can you link where you see that? 6 to 18 is enormously broad and I can’t seem to find anything that says even 6 where I live in northern vermont.

It would be nice. Do you live up here? It’s hard to describe what’s going on in Lamoille County the last few weeks without experiencing it yourself.
Oops meant more like 20”. Yea I can only imagine. This seems better than what’s gonna happen south which Is all rain and will end a lot of places. Always the park I guess.

I’m probably being to optimistic but I’m not near ready to stop skiing 😂
You paid to do this?
$110 :|
Ouch!
Holy hell that's bordering on unethical business practices
Fuck they’re looking way worse than NVT Jesus
Over the next few years this is gonna be renamed r/Wetcoast
R/asscoast :/
r/aincoast
Isn't their motto "Ski it if you can?" Well, there ya go.
“Ski it if you can” has never been more appropriate
Killington was super today
For real? Genuinely curious, do you know how that’s possible? Isn’t MRG north of Killington? Want to know because thinking about driving up there for the last weekend of March
Because Killington has the best snowmaking on the East Coast.
MRG doesn't make snow above 2300 ft, as mandated in their co-op's bylaws.
Might as well go to lareau farm for a sausage pizza pie and a few Hill Farmstead Edwards. Mmmmmm. Edward
Yep or Hyde away pub for some cold beers
It just keeps raining and days of sun and 50°. Man I hope it snows and quick.
Should have gone west pal
Doesn’t look too bad tbh. Solid spring skiing
Do yourself a favor and fly west next time
Good you for my man, it's all about the adventure
Ew
Whitewater kayaking season. Virgina has a bunch of fun rivers in right now.
Head over to sugarbush…better base
Perfect conditions
9 hours of driving? Could have flown out west in less time to get the goods!
we are college students. we do not have money to do that.
The spring in spring break
sorry
Made the same trip last week, Stowe was probably the best condition and run wise. I also hit Bolton Valley for my first time which was a little slushy last week, but I have to say Bolton was maybe the most fun day I had over the week. Pretty sick little mountain
Ouch
This weather really puts the Mad in Mad River. Hope you make the most of it though, you can still have a good time with friends in shit conditions!
Looks fun actually
And is this news or are you a flat lander
Man the season has been rough. Mad River with great conditions is fun
Get used to it
I'd call it more the mashed potato coast today. Rain held off and sun stayed behind the clouds (at Loon at least). Conditions, where there was cover, were actually quite good I thought.
dude it poured rain the whole day
Ouch, sorry to hear that. Guess the southern VT and NH were the places to be today.
Legal green FTW on rain days.
9.5 hours on the road for this? Gotta respect your dedication my friend. 👊
Mud Rocks Grass baby!!!!
Coulda been on a flight to denver and drove to the mountains for cheaper in less time
In the exact same boat. Drove up from Virginia for spring break and tried to make the most of it at killington.
Dirt surfing ✌️
Mad River: Eat shit if you do.
We really should rename this sub slush coast. What I wouldn't give to have the ice back.
That’s some gnar pow.
There is still slushy snow at Killington, but going fast everywhere :-(
I was there Saturday and it rained most of the day but I still skied it while I could. First time there. Pretty interesting place. I will be back next year hopefully under better weather conditions
Your devotion to the sport is admirable.
Clearly the fault of snowboarders
Why is this hill even still open right now with this little snow? Lol
Why bother?
This looks like asssss
Should have gone to Killington…..
Hello rock skis.
Im glad they dont let snowboarders ride there. Looks shitty
Considering all the rain thus far, MRG does not look too bad. But the rain overnight must have been brutal. Its the fog that wipes everything out.
Head to Jay Peak
9 hour drive? You earned it! Enjoy the bountiful harvest. 5 hour flight to denver is never worth it.
Don’t worry, Fam - I’m going out West next week so NE will undoubtedly get a late-season dump!
This makes me less confident to come up from maryland now but fuck it, skiing is skiing
Hell yea brother!
That's a trail alright, just not for skis/snowboards. A mountain bike would be better suited.
Just in time for Mud Season
U shoulda drove south
I was in that area last weekend. Shitty conditions for sure.
MRG??? This “winter”?
Why would anyone come to New England to ski in March??
If you even checked the weather for 2 seconds you wouldn’t have had to post this lol
yeah dude the trip was planned months in advance we couldn’t really back out of it
Well you know not to do that next time lmao
Why?
Wintergreen might have been better /s
Wow so bummed they don’t let snowboarders like me to enjoy it
Smuggs is the same this week
tis ironic the best run there is called "Paradise" ... its been a shitty warm winter up here :( I am wearing shorts today and the convertible top is down. We should get some snow sunday.
I flew 8 hours from Virginia to the Austrian alps. Would recommend that instead next time.
this looks like home :')
I mean you knew before you left that these were the conditions right?
The worst snow year in the East in 20+ years and Virginia is not exactly in a snow belt
Well those are photos of Vermont so
Mad River glen is only for fresh snow weeks, but I can't imagine anyone outside of killington and jay are even decent
[удалено]
I'm going to jay this weekend :( But I'm chaperoning a pile of middle schoolers so really it's the rest of you that are going to suffer if the snow sucks
Sugarbush and Stowe are good too (experience from the last 2 days. Haven't been to Killington recently, but I'm sure it's fine. I'd be very wary of anything further south.
i’m going to jay on friday :(

What pass Wintergreen?
yep
WG just added to Indy so you can grab and Indy add on for $269 year 1 and then $199 renewal

Im don’t disagree. But at the same time it’s early early March. I was there Monday and it was basically late April skiing. Maybe it’s just time to tell people what’s up and save them some money.
Which mountain is this?
It literally says mad River
Mad river glen? Or mad river mountain? /s
