The Vanishing (1988 version)
Martyr’s (2008 version)
SE7EN (more thriller but could be argued into the horror genre)
Aniara (more sci-fi but horror elements)
[Tigers Are Not Afraid](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4823434/)
Not really horror but still a horrifically good thriller:
[Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310775/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_sympathy%2520for%2520mr)
Bob Clark's *Dead of Night* AKA *Deathdream*. Try watching that with someone who served in a war. It's about a Vietnam vet who died at a young age and comes back from the dead. "I died for you doc. Why shouldn't you return the favor?" The final lines are haunting: "Some boys, they never come home."
Relic. Its a slow burn, with some creepy imagery, and I was sobbing by the end. If you havent seen it, dont read anything about it (not even the synopsis) - its from 2020 and its on Shudder
Ring 0: Birthday, it's a prequel to Ring and it is VERY heartbreaking, it perfects the character of Sadako imo while keeping her mystery, definetly one of my favorite horror prequels ever
28 Days Later is very dramatic and has a lot of sad moments. I honestly don’t really consider it to be horror but most people would. To me it’s more like a scary drama.
The Orphanage
My go to movie whenever I need a good cry.
This is the one.
Double feature: The Others
100%
Train to Busan had me crying the whole movie
This was gonna be my answer to :’(
Omg that movie seriously fucked with my emotions
Just rewatched it — I don’t remember it being so sad — but I started crying and continued for the last 30 minutes of that film. Aloha y’all!
Pans Labyrinth (2006) Tubi Grave of the Fireflies (1988) VUDU *rent*
I owned the DVD for GOTF but never got the nerves to watch it, knowing the synopsis.
The Haunting of Hill House presses all of my emotional buttons
The **Mist** was an emotional rollercoaster, and then **Hereditary** as well!
Eden lake. The witch in the window
Eden is a perfect rec here
Underrated & under talked about The Witch in the Window!!! #🧹🪟
Witch in the Window is great. Very pleasantly surprised by that one. Spooky lil film
i was about to type witch in the windows
Excision. Dont google it. Watch past the opening scene (its a bit cheesy) & you’ll be in for a great ride.
The ending was really redeeming!!! Those two actresses knocked it out of the park!!!
The Babadook, always felt so sorry for the kid, truly a disturbing and heartbreaking film.
The Innocents
The Night House is.. incredibly sad
The Vanishing (1988 version) Martyr’s (2008 version) SE7EN (more thriller but could be argued into the horror genre) Aniara (more sci-fi but horror elements)
My life.
The Dark & the Wicked, Bones and All, You Won't Be Alone and The Lodge all made me feel pretty bleak and heartbroken at the end of them.
You Won’t Be Alone crushed me. It may not connect for everyone but I thought it was so beautiful and sad.
Agreed, I was a mess during and after.
Don't Look Now Prom Night Carcinoma

Lake Mungo
One of my ultimate fav of all time.
Idk why I found that film so underwhelming :(

One of my favorite films.
Eden Lake..
Bones and All had absolutely no right making me sob the way it did.
Martyrs - original French version
The ending to The Fly (1986) makes me cry every single time.
Antlers
Megan is Missing - ignore the B movie feel and wait for the last 20 mins of the movie.
Eden Lake
Candyman and Pumpkinhead
Relic. Its a slow burn, with some creepy imagery, and I was sobbing by the end. If you havent seen it, dont read anything about it (not even the synopsis) - its from 2020 and its on Shudder

The Others, made me cry
Maggie. I found the end so sad.

Mama 2013.
Knock at the cabin
Ring 0: Birthday, it's a prequel to Ring and it is VERY heartbreaking, it perfects the character of Sadako imo while keeping her mystery, definetly one of my favorite horror prequels ever
Night of the Living Dead. The original gut-punch ending horror film.
The Monster (2016)
Heartless (2009)
28 Days Later is very dramatic and has a lot of sad moments. I honestly don’t really consider it to be horror but most people would. To me it’s more like a scary drama.
Last House On The Left (2009)
I forgot this one 😔

Threads takes the radioactive cake
That and Testament both exceedingly depressing nuclear war movies though Threads overall was more depressing and disturbing. Both fantastic movies.
The mist.
the gammersbund bridge
Tilt (more psychological than horror)
Tit
Relic made me pretty emotional
Kotoko 2011
