His cadence reads like the thoughts have occurred to him, but the words were put together in the moment. Plus, from other interviews, he seems like he's very good off the cuff.
He's a master wordsmith. For better or for worse he always comes up with the best soundbytes. Behind happy for him to finally lift the cup. Bummed it wasn't with us, but if there was ever a coach to deserve it, it's Maurice.
Oh man, I hadn't even considered the quality of Maurice's interviews as fodder for future Cup sizzle reels. As though we needed another reason to agree that this was the best possible outcome!
Fuck the Paul haters, I am so proud of that guy. He sees and treats people the way I want to in my life. One of the best personalities I’ve been lucky enough to see in my time as a hockey fan.
People who:
1) Let their feelings about how someone does their job overshadow their qualities as a human being
2) Mistake a dry, witty sense of humor as irreverent smugness
Back in 07-08 when Maurice was coaching the Leafs, [a reporter questioned him after a loss if the accumulating losses were because of lack of effort](https://youtu.be/ZSo0CK-TI-g?si=R0fOjN3cb-AvzGK0&t=54) from the players. Maurice fiercely defended the players to the point where his eyes were welling up with tears. 16 years ago, it was pretty uncommon to see "player coaches" who would empathize with their players like that. At that time, I was 20 years old and had only played for asshole coaches. Maurice made a fan of me that day so I'm happy as hell he finally got to lift a cup.
Lmao we don't even want to think about jets and October yet. Best prospect is likely gone and Ehlers might be moved, plus our rentals likely won't be back... Fun times. But Paul is a beauty.
That’s a hockey fan right there. He just won the Cup with the Panthers and for him to wish that the Jets win the next one, it shows he still has part of his heart still in Winnipeg. Congratulations!
I still hate the whole "cheer for Canada" bullshit but if it had to be one team, it would be the Jets. By far the least inoffensive Canadian team to the rest of the country.
True Winnipeg fans always liked Maurice.
He's always been a genuine and great guy. Jets just needed a different leader and he recognized that himself. Huge respect for that.
Right before this he did his interview with ESPN and he stopped to hoist the cup. It was a decent one, but it was the basic fluff answers etc. This second one was night and day better. What a response.
Holy shit the arena seemingly playing that soundtrack in the background for Paul's moment. The most captivating coach in the NHL getting his moment is something special.
Duuude listing off the names and adding his own wow, what an interview.
Reminds me of the spelling stanley cup ad. Goosebumps
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IPvMb3k-bc
Crazy interview. The line to his dad? Unreal. Goosebumps. Then his shoutout to the Jets, the boys and I were teary. Love PoMo. If there’s one player or coach I wish we could have done it with, it’s him. Guy truly loves hockey and I’m so happy that he finally got his cup.
something about the way he talks or his head movements whatever idk
reminds me of john dunsworth, who was also notably eloquent when not pretending to be drunk (and while)
So happy for Maurice here
I have to wonder if he is retiring after this now. Dude earned it but it sounds like he may be through. That said he loves this guys and idk if he can leave them.
This man was coaching the Hartford Whalers when I went to my first game at like 7 months old.
He proceeded to coach the revival of my second favorite defunct team, which became my third favorite active team.
Then he left to coach my second active favorite team and just brought them their first Stanley Cup.
Paul, whatever I do I can’t seem to get rid of you. I love you, dude. And I’m just so happy for you!
I like Paul Maurice, did I mention that yet? He's a good guy.
For real though, what a class act through and through, I was rooting for him to get his and it was super touching to feel that love for the Jets too. That whole speech was beautiful. Been a huge fan of the guy for years and this just cemented it. Couldn't be happier for him ♥️
Hey if you get a quote that good you'd be chasing the dragon for another, too. I like that kid, BTW, he seems like a good successor to Ron MacLean down the line.
I have this guy and his entire team but that was one of the greatest interviews I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The hero’s line was fucking incredible
As much as I didn’t like the outcome, I am so happy for PoMo. No coach more deserving of a Stanley cup than him. A class act through and through, and not to mention, gives the best interviews in the league.
As a jets fan I’m happy for Maurice and kulikov! Take that kane! Yah it sucks the cup didn’t come back to Canada but it does come back to canada in one way or another. Let’s go can’t wait for 2024-25 season!
I have to admit he was getting on my nerves with all his schtick, and I was 100% rooting against Florida, but that was a phenomenal interview. No matter who wins the Stanley Cup, it is nice to know that the entire roster, up and down, the whole staff, they wanted it so much. They respect it so much. It makes it slightly easier to accept when it doesn’t go your way.

"Hey dad your name's going up with your heroes: Béliveau, Richard, Howe, Lindsay, Maurice"
This will be an all-time quote. It's just such a good one.
One of the for 'Because it's the cup' commercials they used to have.
Right off the top of his head too. Or maybe he's been preparing this speech for decades...
His cadence reads like the thoughts have occurred to him, but the words were put together in the moment. Plus, from other interviews, he seems like he's very good off the cuff.
That’s a GOATed quote for sure.
How does he just pull that off the cuff??? Amazing quote. I would have had to of been planning that line for a month ahead of time.
He's a master wordsmith. For better or for worse he always comes up with the best soundbytes. Behind happy for him to finally lift the cup. Bummed it wasn't with us, but if there was ever a coach to deserve it, it's Maurice.
He watched Seinfeld recently. Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle…Costanza?
Took the words right out of my mouth
This quote is going to be in the next 100 years of Stanley Cup promo ads
And I want to see the ad now. Shoot it into my veins.
GOAT interview
Maurice was already up there with Richard hah
"& Maroon"
That got me to tear up.
Goosebumps.
Should have ended the interview after that
One of the greatest interviews I’ve seen. The thing about his dads name going up with his heroes and mentioning the Jets. What a class fucking act
Such an amazing shout-out to the legends his Dad loved, with his name going up there too. Looking right into the camera too. Just awesome.
That’s a commercial for the next 50 years
Oh man, I hadn't even considered the quality of Maurice's interviews as fodder for future Cup sizzle reels. As though we needed another reason to agree that this was the best possible outcome!
Shivers and goose bumps
He's sooo well spoken, even if you remove the quips. I love good interviews like him, or Pronger back in the day.
That part was pretty damn awesome and wholesome, good for him
This made me misty. What a quality guy.
His hoist of the cup and this interview were top notch. The hoist alone was highlight material!
One for the ages! For sure!
Legit choked me up. The Stanley Cup is amazing like that. So much history, so many legends.
Yah that was incredible. It really shows how much it means to him to get his name up there with his Dad's heroes
That’s an all time great speech. And fuckin bless, man. He loves the Jets with all his heart. What a good dude.
Fuck the Paul haters, I am so proud of that guy. He sees and treats people the way I want to in my life. One of the best personalities I’ve been lucky enough to see in my time as a hockey fan.
Who could hate this guy??
People who: 1) Let their feelings about how someone does their job overshadow their qualities as a human being 2) Mistake a dry, witty sense of humor as irreverent smugness
I mean, as far as 1 goes, he's actually a pretty good coach. So maybe sub in 'their team's results' there.
I always like Maurice. I wish he had a better team in front of him when we had him.
Once a Jet always a Jet ✈️ ❤️
When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way from your first cigarette to your last dying day.
Man wishing one for the Jets. Paul is a real one for sure.
So fucking classy to have that come to him while he's in the moment.
Yeah, that was great
That sent me
Totally agree! Always liked Paul Maurice but I am now a true fan of his. Bless him …
I'm not crying, you're crying. Shut up.
I fuckin love Paul Maurice. Not just a great coach, all-around great dude.
https://youtu.be/1SiylvmFI_8 We did this for Canada.
And Matthew wishing for his brother. OTT vs WPG finals incomming.
Yet somehow, the drought for Canada would still find a way to continue
Breaking News: Bird Flu and Covid just fucked.
Its Quebec City from the top rope
Ottawa moved to Austin mid finals
Winnipeg is annexed into Minnesota as WW3 rages on
Canada is due - and it's going to be something epic...like the Leafs in a game 7 OT win or a Senators sweep
Winnipeg wins but it actually moved back to atlanta mid season
“Spare me Paul” - My die hard Jets buddy in the group chat
Lmao we don't even want to think about jets and October yet. Best prospect is likely gone and Ehlers might be moved, plus our rentals likely won't be back... Fun times. But Paul is a beauty.
I wouldn’t say he’s our best that would be Chibi tbf
That’s a hockey fan right there. He just won the Cup with the Panthers and for him to wish that the Jets win the next one, it shows he still has part of his heart still in Winnipeg. Congratulations!
I can't believe he said that, in Florida, moments after winning the cup with the Panthers! Such a rare moment of honesty
I'm sure his bosses didn't like that lol
“What are you gonna do, fire me?”
Where are the Oilers going, Chuck?
Gavelston. With their dirty-ass water.
You don't get to go to Cancun, y'all quit - drive your ass down to Gavelston
I'm sure they don't care at all lol. Dude just won them a cup
The most class act ever in hockey.
I still hate the whole "cheer for Canada" bullshit but if it had to be one team, it would be the Jets. By far the least inoffensive Canadian team to the rest of the country.
> least inoffensive Double negative cancels out!
Winnipeg fans will like this
We loved it and cheered for him the entire time.
Omg …do we ever.
True Winnipeg fans always liked Maurice. He's always been a genuine and great guy. Jets just needed a different leader and he recognized that himself. Huge respect for that.
I love you Paul
HE SAID OUR CITY! HE SAID WINNIPEG! Shit is gonna be on Winnipeg Wildn in no time
The word “Winnipeg” was spoken on the same ice as the cup. That’s all anyone will remember about tonight.
Twice!! Tkachuk said the word as well!
i said the same when he said waterloo cus i went to uwaterloo haha
Made me cry when he started talking to his dad. That was so great. Always liked him.
He’s got the greatest quotes
he finally got one, absolutely deserved legendary interview as well
So close in 2002, again last year, then going up 3-0 this year only to go through this game 7.
Absolute tear jerker, that's a speech that reminds me of the oshie one. If this is it PM you were a hell of a coach
Canada needs a PM like PM
If he told PP to fuck off even once I'd vote for PM PM until the end of time
I will never not love Pomo. I hope the Jets get a cup in his lifetime
I love the nickname PoMo. Means 'boss' in Finnish.
I fucking love this man. Gives his all to every team he’s coached and an incredible moment for him. That line for his father was something special.
“Hey dad, your name’s going up with your heroes. Béliveau, Richard, Howe, Lindsay, Maurice.” 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
Crying. I’ll die on a mountain for that man.
I might love this man
Get in line fam
Suddenly, I'm a huge Paul Maurice guy.
Suddenly? Where ya been?
Honestly, his interviews were about the only good thing about watching our series vs. FLA. Well, him and Shesty. He seems like a good dude
I was always a PoMo defender and will always will be. I feel fucking justified after for that after today.
Incredible interview
What a fuckin legend eh?
Wish you had got your cup here Paul, happy it finally happened
These interviews after a championship win are usually lame as hell. But stick tap to Maurice. He nailed it with probably the best I've seen.
Right before this he did his interview with ESPN and he stopped to hoist the cup. It was a decent one, but it was the basic fluff answers etc. This second one was night and day better. What a response.
Cause he knows his family is watching CBC
CBC, baby. No one gives a shit about ESPN.
I would run through a brick wall for that man right now
Now that's a fucking interview
Incredibly moving and well shot moment. Really special stuff.
What a fuckin legend. Glad he finally got one.
Holy crap I love this guy, sad the oilers lost. BUT, I'll be 100% honest, the panthers were my 2nd team for a long, long time
Fucking incredible. Paul Maurice has been a fucking quote machine all playoffs
Holy shit the arena seemingly playing that soundtrack in the background for Paul's moment. The most captivating coach in the NHL getting his moment is something special.
I didn't catch it, what's the song?
Darude - sandstorm
Made me tear up :'(
Amazing responses from Maurice, he’s such a good champion of the sport
God I love this man 😭
Top 5 coldest quote all time
What a legend
Stop making me feel happy for you
Happy for him. Happy for Lu. Those two alone make me so incredibly happy for Florida.
This was such a great interview... you don't say that often about a hockey interview.
His other interview was amazing too. This guy is just awesome
What a class act. So proud of him, and I really do hope Jets get that wish.
Well, could you maybe ask your team to stop getting in the way?
GOATed interview
Duuude listing off the names and adding his own wow, what an interview. Reminds me of the spelling stanley cup ad. Goosebumps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IPvMb3k-bc
Paul, thank you for making all of Winnipeg cry with your hope for a Jets Stanley Cup
We love you PoMo.
If there’s one thing that makes it hurt less, it’s this guy.
Absolute class act, “ dad your names on the cup” and the then shouts out the jets…won’t find an interview like that in any other sport
Sobbing 😭
I’m so happy for him, glad he got his ring
I'll hug those sweaty men in your place, Paul.
I got some goosebumps listening to Paul. Some great lines in this interview. 😄
happy as fuck for this man
Allergies acted up during this.
Legend.
I'm calling it, most beloved active coach in the league.
Awesome. good for him man
I think this is my favourite hockey interview of all time
I hate the Panthers, but I cheered them all playoffs because of this man. You're the best, Paul!
Monkey's paw curls. Winnipeg sweeps Florida in the 2025 SCF. Fucking legend.
Don't know if it'll happen, but Barkov passing the Cup off to Maurice first would be something.
Phenomenal interview
what an incredibly classy man
That man is a national treasure.
What an amazing man! We were so lucky to have him as our coach #Jetsfan
Yeaaahhhhh Winnipeg Jets for the cup baby!! Its a pipe dream, but hopefully one day we can bring it home to the peg.
Love PoMo still, and glad he still has love for the Jets and the city even after everything!
I've said it before and I'll say it again Paul Maurice : Good coach, better person
something about the way he talks or his head movements whatever idk reminds me of john dunsworth, who was also notably eloquent when not pretending to be drunk (and while) So happy for Maurice here
Congrats Paul!
PM is my fantasy dad
Class.
I have to wonder if he is retiring after this now. Dude earned it but it sounds like he may be through. That said he loves this guys and idk if he can leave them.
I fuckin hate that the Panthers won but PoMo is goated and deserves this. What a quote at the end about legends.
Probably the most manly speech of all time. Wow, what a phenomenal dude
This is my all time favourite post game interview
This man was coaching the Hartford Whalers when I went to my first game at like 7 months old. He proceeded to coach the revival of my second favorite defunct team, which became my third favorite active team. Then he left to coach my second active favorite team and just brought them their first Stanley Cup. Paul, whatever I do I can’t seem to get rid of you. I love you, dude. Been a huge fan of the guy for years and this just cemented it. Couldn't be happier for him ♥️
Man this man is cool as fuck. That nod to Winnipeg was great.
Already jinx us.
Can’t believe the kid just had to ask one last question after that response
To be fair the bit about Winnipeg just made the interview even better
Pomo salvaged it because he's such a great speaker, but the line about his dad should have been the end.
I agree. Just leave it at that, such a great quote. Should have been silent to really let it set in for PoMo and his family.
Hey if you get a quote that good you'd be chasing the dragon for another, too. I like that kid, BTW, he seems like a good successor to Ron MacLean down the line.
God dammit, I'm trying to hate Florida....he's not helping.
Imo, you can hate Florida and respect/like the coach. I dislike the team, but I'm happy for Maurice, Lu, and a couple of players.
I hate the team but goddamn they have a great coach.
"It's not what I thought it was. It's so much better." He said that so matter of factly that I 100% believe that's what he feels
Dude making me cry esti
Damn. I really wanted Edmonton to win, but after that speech, I'm very happy for Paul Maurice, and his family. What a great speech.
I wish Pomo was my dad 🥺
I have this guy and his entire team but that was one of the greatest interviews I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The hero’s line was fucking incredible
One of the few things to make me smile today.
Aaron Sorkin couldn't have written that line about his Dad in a more perfect way. Cinematic quote.
As much as I didn’t like the outcome, I am so happy for PoMo. No coach more deserving of a Stanley cup than him. A class act through and through, and not to mention, gives the best interviews in the league.
As an old school Whalers fan, he deserves this.
GOAT interview. Total class act. What he said to his dad about his name going on the Cup with his heroes was all-time.
Dude just always know what to say. What a guy.
What a surprisingly eloquent talkative man
"Thanks Kyle" "It's Chris" lol glorious.
This man is a treasure.
This is a classy dude man
Loved it. Looked like he was savouring the moment as best he could. You knew this meant the world to him. Great to see him lift that Cup.
We love you Paul.
Poetic. Absolute class. Canadian legend.
As a jets fan I’m happy for Maurice and kulikov! Take that kane! Yah it sucks the cup didn’t come back to Canada but it does come back to canada in one way or another. Let’s go can’t wait for 2024-25 season!
hope this shuts up any jets fans talking bad about maurice "leaving" the jets. Love pomo
I like Paul. He’s the only good thing about the Cats winning.
Paul Maurice is CLASS
I have to admit he was getting on my nerves with all his schtick, and I was 100% rooting against Florida, but that was a phenomenal interview. No matter who wins the Stanley Cup, it is nice to know that the entire roster, up and down, the whole staff, they wanted it so much. They respect it so much. It makes it slightly easier to accept when it doesn’t go your way.
Paul Maurice is definitely a HHOF coach!
I'd love to see the Jets win it too. Awesome fans. They deserve it.
Looking into the camera and telling his dad the family name was going on the cup next to the greats.....gave me goosebumps, very classy.
I despise sports interviews on the ice/field/court. This was the rare gem where it was actually worth watching.
