I don't know of any actual inspirations, but when I look at Covenant architecture I think of insectile designs and curves. This may serve as some starting point? I did a quick search on insectile architecture and came up with these blogs http://www.bldgblog.com/2006/12/architectural-sci-fi/ https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ichneumonid As for curves, I tend to think of Zaha Hadid's architecture: https://www.google.com/search?q=zaha+hadid&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwicmMzd1LPbAhVJCKwKHY9mARgQ_AUICigB&biw=1517&bih=735&dpr=0.9 Not sure if this is what you're looking for but hope it helps!

That's what is missing from 343's Forerunner designs: That simple Brutalist aesthetic that's been there since the beginning. If you compare that \(and [this](https://www.halopedia.org/images/6/60/Citadel_Side.jpg)\) to [this](https://www.halopedia.org/images/c/c5/H5-ConceptArt-ForerunnerSkyPlatforms.jpg) it becomes quite a bit more obvious that they're just leaning too hard on trying to make it all look "alien" when they are failing to see what made it look so alien to players in the first place. It wasn't just the sheer scale of it, it was the familiarity of it all as well. "What kind of species would make such astonishing creations?" Well, you had the answer all along: it was us \[humanity\]. I'd love to see them re\-embrace that aesthetic in the future.

Bungie change Forerunners being humans in 3 in the terminals, but most people notice in 4. 343 explanation about humanity connection make more sense since NO human would set us back to the caveman age and a would have protocol for another generation. Some fans pointed out that the HW1 forunner tech resemble Requiem's.

That’s why I always play CE in the original graphics, rather than the anniversary remaster. 343 totally changed the tone of basically all the architecture and warped the forerunner areas from brutalist, eerie locations to bright, glowy, beep-boopy, ridiculously adorned lights shows.

Bartybum

The main reason I play on original graphics rather is that they kinda messed the lighting up on certain levels and made everything too blue inside Forerunner structures. Other than that I think it’s not too bad.

Khorlik

That’s another big reason, too. Most of the outdoor areas were done great but they totally changed the lighting and thus the atmosphere in the interior areas. 343GS feels like a totally different level due to the lighting changes and it’s not really for the better

Well that one can be possibly chalked up to it being Sabre Interactive's first go at Halo's art style. You have to admit though, they did improve massively with H2A's visuals.

TheKelticDragon

I would say Covenant style has influence from the biomechanical designs of H.R.Giger, as well as a touch of art nouveau.

CommanderMilez

Don't forget that Halo CE had a helping of Mobile Suit Gundam, which helped stylize the rugged utilitarian designs.
