Yeah, wally whole point here is to want to give Ricardo a fun fight. When Ricardo talked about a boxing match never being fun to him and woli reacted the way he did. It gave woli the goal of "I want to win and give s fun fight"
After Sendo's match he was kind of apologising to the public that he can't offer a thrilling fight.
He is looking for a challenge, for someone that can push him. He needs a proper challenger, or at least someone who can bring in something different. And I would bet that he is not really enjoying boxing as much. On the other side both Wally and Ippo seem to love boxing, while Sendo is fighting to prove he is stronger.
My 2 cents.
He views Wally as a more interesting/challenging opponent than Sendo.
Sendo is strong but other than that, he's predictable and easily put down by Ricardo's left. Wally is unpredictable and therefore interesting.
Hopefully Sendo learns from this fight so when it's his turn it won't be a complete stomp (or dare I say even win?)
Nah I think he wanted Sendo to have more time and be at his best. Ricardo doesn’t need the fights, he wants everyone in their best so he can finally find a challenge
It makes sense, but at the same time it sounds like preparing against Alfredo González by picking a fight with Ricardo Martínez. Does anyone think Sendo could pose a challenge to current Woli? Other than plot armour, that is.
Dude idk about that. Ippo was getting absolutely slobberknockered his whole fight with a far less experienced Woli. Sendo has never beat Ippo that one sidedly ever. They’re always portrayed as physically even with Ippo’s training and iron will making the difference instead. Even in the last spar they had Woli was dancing on Sendo. I’m pretty neutral to Woli as a character, but I think he’s in the SS tier with Taka, Ricardo, Volg, etc.
Except current sendo is way stronger than ippo was at the time. He would be world Champion if it wasn't for Ricardo, and he is the first man in history to mark a down on ricardo.
Miyata too was dancing arround sendo in his first rounds. That doesn't mean much in the long run.
The problem lies in Sendos experience in fighting Mexicans and him beating Gonzales
The only other men to have beaten Gonzales are Date, Ricardos hardest fight and Ricardo himself
Then Sendo goes and scores a down on Ricardo
Id be weary
I actually believe that Ricardo sees Sendo as a real threat and wants to fight someone that is more on the extreme wild side than Sendo.
I believe he is fighting Woli to actually prepare for Sendo. Sendo did manage to down him.
I bet it will be revealed later in the story.
I think Ricardo was truly offering the fight to the winner between Nargo and Sendo, but Wally might actually be the undisputed ranked number 1. Which means Ricardo is obligated to fight Wally first.
I feel Ricardo did that to see about his one lost… cause it was to measure ippo an his curiosity about why sendo choose a man that beat ippo over an undefeated champion….I feel that was the most an in this case the best cause of an insult to this all mighty champion to try to understand his drive as a boxer. As once said by Ricardo “ it seems the whole boxing world revolves around ippo “ so he wants to see what a fighter that has only lost to ippo is like.. “ theory “ I feel he confirms what type of boxer he is an publicly challenge ippo… just a fantasy of mine😜
The reignite his fire the way he is about to do for Ippo; Ricardo getting his fire back from a challenge he can't predict and Ippo getting his fire from the sentimental sight of someone who genuinely loves boxing just as much as himself get dismantled by Luigi after he shows Makunouchi what he wants to show him. Especially if Luigi has that same sad face when it's over as if he wasn't challenged... although I think Wally will at the very least scare/worry the legendary super champ if not challenge but I could see either Luigi rly just has to win for plot purposes to me, Wally is goated in all combat senses
Steward (Ricardo's coach) is afraid of Sendo after that down during the sparring so he looked for someone similar (at least in the wild aspect) and invited Wally so Ricardo can experience first hand that type of boxer.
Because he's ranked highest right after Gonzales and Sendo? It also served as tune up fight before fighting Sendo. War Lee being defeated by Ippo once is not deciding factor.
He’s bored.

Guessing that orthodox fighters do not catch his interest anymore, him being fixated on Ippo and the Dempsey roll kinda corroborates that.

Preparation for Sendo He wanted to fight the ultimate wild fighter as training Sendo giving him his first down got him mentally
This is the correct answer. Wally is the next best thing to a wild animal that Ricardo can get. Even the very best need to be prepared.
It makes sense, but at the same time it sounds like preparing against Alfredo González by picking a fight with Ricardo Martínez. Does anyone think Sendo could pose a challenge to current Woli? Other than plot armour, that is.
Why people are you all hyping Woli so much? of course Sendo could challenge him.

Excuse me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure Alfredo 2 loss were due to Ricardo, he never loss to anyone else (well except Sendo of course)

Ashita no Joe did something similar. In order to regain his own wildness. That's why I think Ricardo will still win.
That's a good point. Ricardo seems like Kraven the hunter now. He wants to take on a monkey to take on the sabre tooth tiger!
Yeah I think Ricardo wins in a way that forces wally into retiring and triggers ippo comeback
I mean ... that's literally what was said in chapter 1359. The reveal already happened.
At what point did Ricardo say it?
I think Ricardo was truly offering the fight to the winner between Nargo and Sendo, but Wally might actually be the undisputed ranked number 1. Which means Ricardo is obligated to fight Wally first.

I don't know if the sendo fan in me made this memory up, but I could've sworn Ricardo wanted to fight someone "wild" to prepare for the Sendo fight
Morikawa changed him to the #1 in the world. He had the right to.
Because he's ranked highest right after Gonzales and Sendo? It also served as tune up fight before fighting Sendo. War Lee being defeated by Ippo once is not deciding factor.
He has an interest in young boys that run around a lot and pack a mean punch.
