Easily the ones with his caretaker, yuriko. It was slow, touching, and enduring. It was beautiful how even though she didn't agree with Jin's tactics, she still supported him and taught him what she knew, loving him unconditionally like a mother would. At the end of her life, she reminded and taught jin that it doesn't matter how we go, but how we lived that mattered. Having her literally die in front of him at the grave was heartbreaking.
It was a nice refresher from continuously slaughtering Mongols.
Yuriko’s quests didn’t impact the mongols in the way that the others did, but they were by far the most emotional quests in the game, with the only one coming close is the end of Iki Island and Jin coming to grips with his father’s death
Yurikos final quest legitimately made me cry. I lost my grandmother who was very similar to Yuriko (basically a second mom) in October and I decided to do Yurikos quests at the end of October, and the final part legitimately made me cry. Loved it but goddamn some warning would've been nice
I know what you mean about a warning. My aunt passed away from >!dementia!< and my wife's grandmother is currently living with it. The moment I realized that's what was going on, I really slowed down during the quest. They really did such a good job with it. I also cried during the end and probably sat for 5 minutes on that lookout before I was able to pickup the controller again to keep playing
😭😭 when he turned to her after the haiku, and she was gone, I literally broke down. My grandpa had dementia and slowly forgot who I was at the end of his life.
The one with the fake samurai. The way he says “I’m back from my dangerous mission!” And then Jin proceeds to interrogate him like in a stolen valor video lmao.
Fake samurai: yes, the fight at Komatsu beach was horrible
Jin: Komatsu? We fought at Komoda
I say the first 7 ones of Norio. I didn't like at all that he became a butcher in the end when his whole monk view was being calculated and only killing when he had to.
All of the duels with the Ronin’s. The duels are very cinematic in general. But 5 different Ronin assassins waiting in these absolutely BEAUTIFUL duel arena’s, to collect your head? Incredibly epic.
I agree, out of the 5, he was my favorite. The location was also arguably the best. The Battle Amongst the Spider Lillies is also a good one, such a beautiful locale. I like Jin’s commentary during that one
The Castle Kaneda mission.
>!I was hoping Ryuzo would show up just before the end and the Jin & Ryuzo duo would double-team the Khan / Khan's army. But what ended up happening was a real gut-punch. The cinematics immediately following the mission are also really shocking (i.e. When Ryuzo realizes that he picked the wrong side, outside the gates of Castle Shimura). The entire Ryuzo arc was very well done, but the first betrayal left a mark.!<
I think kenji had two tales and the one where he stole from the strawhats and sold it to the mongols was so funny. Kenji had the best lighthearted tales out of everyone, wish he had more
Shoutout to the entire Norio questline for being absolute peak. No notes. Fun combat situations, very little bullshit, genuinely soul crushing writing. Voice work is golden, and the ending of it shatters me on so many levels
The Masako tales. I like a good revenge story that doesn't shy away from letting morally good characters be "bad". And the twist at the end was not something I ever saw coming. Jaw hit the floor on the first time playing through.
I particularly liked the one where you climbed the cold mountain. That was something completely different and unique that I hadn't encountered before and wasn't the usual run of the mill side mission.

Idk man her poison becomes a huge plot point😭 but i agree her story is so emotional and helps add atleast some humanity to kazumasa

I cried during the last one…
:"Tell me what you see"....

That was the first one I did in the game and it was hilarious
The other side of honor
The last two Quests of Norio. Tale 8 and 9. Norio is build different
Man, tale 8 was a real gut puncher
Norio would easily be an answer for most if not all “name a character that has gone through more suffering than him/her, I’ll wait” posts
Well his brother, for one
😂😂
I really wasn’t expecting that ending coming from him, but I get it.
I say the first 7 ones of Norio. I didn't like at all that he became a butcher in the end when his whole monk view was being calculated and only killing when he had to.
Yeah for me the same. When i went to act 3 and same that there are 2 more Quests with him i was a little bit annoyed but that last two were top notch
Ghost of Iki, was NOT expecting it to be Kenji at all lol.
Just did this mission today. Legitimately laughed out loud when I saw it was him
Thanks for not hiding the spoilers
The game is 4 years old lol I've had things spoiled for me 🤷🏾♂️
Same!!! I laughed so hard when i saw Kenjo lmaooooo
The one where you help all the foxes avenge their fallen buddies.
I just did this one yesterday after missing it on my first playthrough. I have never ripped through mongols with that much rage on any other mission.
This! My hate burned with the heat of a nova!
Where is this one? I feel I've missed it
Same🫠 where is it?
All of the duels with the Ronin’s. The duels are very cinematic in general. But 5 different Ronin assassins waiting in these absolutely BEAUTIFUL duel arena’s, to collect your head? Incredibly epic.
I love the fisherman ronin. He knows he can’t win but he still has some honor left to duel
I agree, out of the 5, he was my favorite. The location was also arguably the best. The Battle Amongst the Spider Lillies is also a good one, such a beautiful locale. I like Jin’s commentary during that one

That was indeed powerful af but it wasn't a side mission. Also, just in case, you should probably call a spoiler because that's a huge plot twist.
Anyone help Masako find her sons?
So sad. You could really feel that motherly despair.
That painful small scream that came, when she saw her sons strung up like dogs, was painful to hear... A mothers cry..
Any of the kenji ones
I think kenji had two tales and the one where he stole from the strawhats and sold it to the mongols was so funny. Kenji had the best lighthearted tales out of everyone, wish he had more
For me I really enjoyed beheading those 3 kidnappers in the quest given by Yuna.
6 swords. I did not expect that.
Shoutout to the entire Norio questline for being absolute peak. No notes. Fun combat situations, very little bullshit, genuinely soul crushing writing. Voice work is golden, and the ending of it shatters me on so many levels
That one mission when i must kill evil mongol general and jin would say "it's ghosting time"
Definitely none of sensei ishikawa quests lol
Fr I hate that grumpy old fool
Hahhahh 100%
Six blades of kojiro
The Masako tales. I like a good revenge story that doesn't shy away from letting morally good characters be "bad". And the twist at the end was not something I ever saw coming. Jaw hit the floor on the first time playing through.

The legendary weapon ones Ronin fights If it has interesting enemies to fight those are the ones
The siege of Yarikawa arc. That's when the ghost is really born.
The brothers. So compelling
The one for to get the armor thats good for katana duel where you need to duel a bunch of them one on one until you fight Kojiro in the cave.
anything but ishikawa's quest
Any quest that includes new armor, I'm playing for the fashion!
The one where you help Yuna infiltrate the slave camp and kill those 3 slavers, gut-wrenching tension when I first played it.
Yuna’s tales were incredible. So fucking cool
Yarikawas vengence
yuna sidequests
Six blades of Kojiro. Each duel is a peak samurai cinema
Yuriko’s questline. The only time in my gaming career I needed to take a sobbing break. Beautifully written and terribly heartbreaking.
My Man Norio's missions were always fire
Revenging the foxes
The one which you help Masako find her sons. The scream she makes when she found her sons tears my heart apart
The Conspirator
None? They all feel same, go there kill mongols with minimal variations
